Web Traffic to Obama White House Website has dropped

This is an interesting story:

The traffic at President Obama’s official White House Web site–whitehouse.gov–has fallen from a post-Inauguration peak to nearly the same level it was during the waning days of the Bush administration.

The dramatic drop in traffic has happened despite the Obama Administration’s complete redesign of the site.

According to the web-traffic tracking site Alexa.com, whitehouse.gov was almost the 500th most popular Web site in the world in February. Since then, it has fallen to the 3,732 ranked Web site in the world. Traffic to the site has fallen 51.6 percent in the last three months.

People are also spending less time on the site than they did before. Time spent on a Web site is often used as a barometer for how interested visitors are in a site’s content. Time spent on whitehouse.gov declined 15 percent since May to an average of 2.6 minutes per visitor

via CNSNews.com – Traffic to Obama’s White House Web Site Has Plummeted.

Because I am not on Brent Bozell’s payroll; I will say this, in fairness to the President the election season is over and now people are just not paying attention the White House and the President as much. So, I am not going to chime in with the partisan narrative here. However, it is notable to point out that overall traffic to this blog has had a remarkable uptick since Obama’s poll numbers have began to drop off. Which tells me that some people; who are possibly just regular independent voters are wanting to read critical reporting of the President. Instead of being spoon fed the constant political commercial that they are given at MSNBC, CNN and some of the other networks as well.

The bottom line is this: While I would not make too much of ado over this, it is interesting to note that Obama’s polls are dropping and that some people are just getting tired of Obama’s campaign speeches.

Quote of the Day

The Internet is the last best source of free and independent information left. Think where the liberty movement would be without the Internet. But even as we speak, President Obama and his allies in Congress are attempting to obtain the authority to censor information on–and curtail access to–the Internet. Plus, in the name of “cybersecurity,” they are plotting to obtain the authority to monitor and seize anyone’s personal computer at will.

Heartache: Internet Advertising is not working

It’s a good read over at TechCrunch:

Why Advertising Is Failing On The Internet.

Not to worry, I am not taking my banners down. The recession has got to end sometime! 😀

Seriously; I believe this recession will mostly get rid of surplus in the advertising Market. As much as I hate to admit it, there has been a great deal of overkill in that Market. Not to mention in the blogging world! I think the recession might clear out the clutter and allow we full time bloggers to flourish and get noticed.

I noticed before the downturn in the economy happened, the online advertising market seemed to be saturated. It now seems that the 12 inch pipe of flowing water has now shrunk to a faucet trickle. This will be a good thing, in some respects.

I just hope I am right! 🙂

An Interesting Movie

I post this because I believe that it is interesting. Alex Jones has always struck me as a kook. Someone amongst the “Tin Foil Hat” crowd. However, it is something interesting to watch.

Enjoy…

What do you think? Do you think that there is any truth to this?

Whew! Internet Advertising will not be affected by Economy downturn

Via The Economist:

AT THE beginning of the year Jeff Zucker, the boss of NBC Universal, a big television and film company, told an audience of TV executives that their biggest challenge was to ensure “that we do not end up trading analogue dollars for digital pennies”. He meant that audiences were moving online faster than advertisers, thus leaving media companies short-changed. Now, near the end of the year, the situation looks even worse, as the recession threatens to turn even the analogue dollars into pennies. Will this hasten the shift towards internet advertising, or will it decline too?

Advertising rises and falls with the economy, though how much is a matter of debate. Randall Rothenberg, the boss of the Interactive Advertising Bureau, a trade association for digital advertisers, points to the remarkable stability of advertising at about 2% of GDP since 1919, when the data began to be collected. This would suggest that ad budgets will move roughly in line with economic output.

But Mary Meeker, an internet analyst at Morgan Stanley, believes that modern ad budgets rise and fall much more than GDP does. According to her estimates, if the economy stops growing, ad spending is likely to fall by 4%. If the economy shrinks by 2%, overall ad spending may fall by 10%. As for the online segment, recent history is cause for pessimism. Between 2000 and 2002, during the dotcom recession, online ad spending in America fell by 27%.

Yet the web has changed a lot since 2002. Back then, gaudy display “banners” on web portals such as Yahoo! and MSN were the preferred technology. These still exist, but they now account for less than 20% of online ad spending. More than half goes to search advertising on Google and rival search-engines, which place small text ads next to results based on the keyword of the query, and charge only when a user clicks on them. In brand advertising, “rich media” ads are taking over from banners. These allow users to interact by clicking, so their engagement can be tracked.

All this makes spending on advertising much less speculative, so that it starts to be treated instead as a cost of sales. This is one reason why online advertising should suffer less than other sorts. This week eMarketer, a market-research firm, predicted that online-advertising spending in America, which makes up about half the global total, will increase by 8.9% in 2009, rather than the 14.5% it had forecast in August. The firm thinks search advertising will grow by 14.9% and rich-media ads by 7.5%, whereas display ads will grow by 6.6%. In short, online advertising will continue to expand in the recession—just not as quickly as previously expected.

Another reason for optimism, says Mr Rothenberg, is that online advertising is making obsolete the old distinction between marketing spending “above the line” and “below” it. In the jargon, above-the-line spending drives brand “awareness” (probably on television) or “consideration” by a consumer planning a purchase (probably in a newspaper). Such spending is often slashed in recessions. Below-the-line spending includes promotions or coupons to whet the consumer’s “preference” for the brand as he nears a purchase, or schemes such as frequent- flyer miles to increase his “loyalty” afterwards. These budgets are more robust. — Rest the Rest

Attention Sitemeter users: There is an issue with that counter and I.E. 7

(via and H/T to Instapundit)

Charles Johnson over at Little Green Footballs Reports the Following:

I’ve confirmed that there’s some kind of problem on the Internet, that only seems to affect users of the Internet Explorer 7 web browser. Attempting to browse to many sites results in an ‘Operation Aborted’ error. No information about the problem elsewhere yet … stay tuned.

UPDATE at 8/1/08 7:20:27 pm:

It appears to be related to Sitemeter.com — browsing to their web site with Internet Explorer 7 produces the error too.

I use Gostats myself. I have used sitemeter in the past however. I also use firefox, so, I don’t have the problem, just reporting it for those that do.

Yikes!: The very high cost of broadband at the Republican Convention

Well, I think it is pretty obvious that I won’t be going to that little garden party!

Via Ed @ Hot Air:

The welcome letter instructed me to contact Qwest in order to arrange any needed voice or Internet services, and they provided a helpful link to an on-line ordering process — as well as the rates for the service. It took me nearly an hour to pick my jaw up off of the floor after reading it:

Qwest will provide high-speed Internet access via an Ethernet connection within the Convention Complex.

This service is for public Internet access only. This service does not provide any security capabilities or protections. The customer should ensure that any computers connected are properly protected and secured.

Qwest will provide the customer with a RJ45 plug for each 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps service and a fiber optic SC/PC connector for each 1 Gbps service. The service does not provide any hardware or cabling beyond the plug. The RJ45 cabling provided will be approximately 6ft in length.

* 10 Mbps (Dedicated) – $850.00
* 100 Mbps (Dedicated) – $7,650.00
* 1 Gbps (Dedicated) – $53,550.00

I think you can figure where I am going to be during the Republican Convention. 😀

Seriously, 53 grand, for internet? Oy!

Another reason why I cannot STAND President George W. Bush

Look for this to be the next big story.

Seen at the Houston Political Blog (via HuffPo)

Update: Video was Pulled head on over to the Site and watch the video.

Update #2: Here’s a snippet of it:

The Basic Transcript:

It is uncertain, there’s no question about it.

Wall Street got drunk, it got drunk, (it’s one of the reasons I asked you to turn off your tv cameras.) It got drunk and now it’s got a hangover. The question is how long will it sober up, and not try to do all these fancy financial instruments.

And now we got a housing issue, not in Houston, and evidently, not in Dallas, because Laura was over there trying to buy a house today. (laugher.. Crawford!)

I like Crawford, unfortunately after eight years of asking her to sacrifice, I’m now no longer the decision maker. She’ll be deciding, thanks for the suggestion! I suggest you don’t yell it out when she’s here. Later, telling her “Hey honey, we’ve been on government pay now for 14 years… so go slow!”

It’s uh.. caused me to lose my train of thought. Anyway.

As a caveat, the cameras were supposed to be off, but obviously, a tape was rolling. But still it speaks to the Political tone deafness of the President. He is yucking it up, while people are losing their houses and while people are dying, because of a pointless and undeclared war in Iraq. Yes, I know, the surge has worked, but still to the general populous of America, this just looks bad. This also could possibly hurt McCain in the long run, because I have sneaky suspicion that the 527’s and possibly Obama campaign might use a video like this, to do a hit job on McCain. In a attempt to try and push McCain closer to Bush.

A article that I think everyone needs to read.

I think all Americans should read this.

“Obama ain’t black.”

I turned to look over my shoulder to see who had uttered that ridiculous statement.

“Pardon Me?” I squinted at the dark-skinned man who had just interjected himself into my over-coffee conversation with my buddy, Kevin.

“Obama ain’t black.” He said again more matter-of-factly as he walked around the porcelain dividing wall and stood at our table where he could be more active in our conversation.

“My name’s Andree,” he said as he extended his hand. “I couldn’t help but hear what you boys had been discussin’ and I don’t mean to stick my nose in where it don’t belong, but I couldn’t leave without settin’ you straight. Obama ain’t black.”

I looked at Kevin as he shifted nervously in his seat, not sure how to take this visitor to our table.

“Well, have a seat Andree,” somewhat trying to judge the book by its cover. “I’m Dave, but most folks call me Coach, and this is Kevin.” Kevin extended his hand politely.——- Click the link to read the rest of Conveniently Black by Dave Daubenmire (via NewsWithViews.com

I will simply say the following, that it is pretty telling when Obama is doing better in White America, out in places where blacks are in rare supply, than he is in the more urban communities.

I don’t have much to add to this article… Because Dave says it all in this article. Enjoy.

I get discriminated against by Google…

As Michelle Malkin found out a little while back, some advertisers do not offer advertising to Conservatives.

That’s right people, Google actually denied me advertising on their “Google Affiliate Network” advertising system.

What happened is, a little while back, I received an e-mail from Google Adsense, letting me know that Google was retiring it’s referral ads program. For an alternative, the e-mail told me that I could sign up for DoubleClick Performics, which I found out, after that I went over to the signup page, that this company had been bought out, by, of course, Google. So, I thought, “Well, I’m already a member of Google Adsense, I’ll just join up here.”. No such luck. I was denied.

An excellent way of controlling their advertising, however, it is total discrimination against me. Because my Blog is a Conservative Blog, I am being denied.

Here’s the e-mail that I received:

1. We were unable to access and review your site or determine your business model based on the URL or profile information provided.

2. The profile information provided is inconsistent or doesn’t match registered domain information.

3. Your site does not meet our content guidelines, which prohibit the following:

* Pornography, adult, or mature content

* Hacking/cracking content

* Illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia

* Excessive profanity

* Any other content that is illegal, promotes illegal activity, or infringes on the legal rights of others

4. Your site or business model is generally not a good fit for Google Affiliate Network and our advertiser programs.

Reasons 1 & 2 are the most common reasons for declining applications. If there are updates to your Web site you are welcome to reapply. Please contact us with any questions.

Sincerely,

Google Affiliate Network

I supposed if I had a blog, that advocated the mindless and wholesale killing of unborn babies, or a Blog that advocated the unproven science of Global Warming, or if I had a website that advocated the promiscuous sex of 14 year old girls. That I would be accepted with no problem at all. However, because my website is against all these things, my site is considered a unacceptable website to Google.

I am seriously considering removing ALL of Google’s ads here. I have to think about it. But I intend to let the world know about this.

I’ve always said that Brent Bozell needed to update that 1990’s era website of theirs. Hopefully, it will rival Media Matters for America’s site, embeddable video clips, nice banners or buttons for Blogs. It has to be totally web 2.0 friendly. Now if they could just get the MRC site updated too, they’d be in good shape.

I can’t wait to see it.
