Congratulations to President-Elect Barack Obama

grant_park_17

I am just now writing about this. I apologize. I did not get in the bed till 3:00 in the morning.

It is done; Barack Obama, by a fair and democratic election has been elected to the office of President of the United States of America.

I did not vote for him. I voted my Libertarian principles; however, I could not be more pleased by this man’s election to the office of President of United States of America. Why? Let me explain. It is not lost on this writer, that the Republican Party, in the last eight years, has become enamored and fully entrenched with Neo-Conservatism.  It is this writers opinion, that Neo-Conservatism will be credited with causing the Republican Party to lose this election.

It is no surprise that anger, fear and finger pointing have began with the Republican Party. It is this writers opinion that all of this will be for nought, including a huge meeting of the minds, unless the Republican Party stands up and expels the Neo-Conservatives OUT of the Republican Party. These pro-war, ex-democrats are the cancer that have caused the Republican Party to be marginalized.

The Republican Party needs to be punished, and punished harshly, for one; electing a President based upon family name. For two; for allowing a President to take a nation to war based upon flimsy intelligence, without demanding to see more inclusive evidence supporting the claims of the President and his administration. For three; for allowing a President to trample upon the one document that this writer holds dear, The United States Constitution.  Not to mention the many cases of corruption, the fact that John McCain and the entire Republican Party ran a election campaign based upon fear, instead of facts. The American people are just not that stupid, they know when they have been duped, and they just were not going to be lied to again.

Not to mention the many cases of blatant and subtle racism that took place during this election. Yes, I know, there was much of it on the left too. But does that excuse the fact that Conservatives partook in it? No. it does not.  Republicans and Conservatives are supposed to be better than that. The Republican Party is the party, of whom Abraham Lincoln came from. The same Abraham Lincoln that said:

I would save the Union. I would save it the shortest way under the Constitution. The sooner the national authority can be restored; the nearer the Union will be “the Union as it was.” … My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union. I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause. I shall try to correct errors when shown to be errors; and I shall adopt new views so fast as they shall appear to be true views. I have here stated my purpose according to my view of official duty; and I intend no modification of my oft-expressed personal wish that all men everywhere could be free. – A letter to Horace Greeley, editor of The New York Tribune –  August 22, 1862.

Do you now see why it upset me so much, when I saw Republicans acting like Democrats?

Having said all the above, I congratulate President Elect Obama. I will continue to Blog about Politics, I am not going anywhere, I will praise him for the things that I agree with, I will criticize for things that I do not.

As I said at the beginning of this piece, I did not vote for him, but he is my President and I will respect his office. I encourage others to do the same.

It is truly a new day in America.

Your Host goes to vote.

Yes, I did go vote this morning. Yes, I did take the Camera. First the pictures:

voting day 001

And…. Off we go!

voting day 002

I didn’t think there would be many cars at the voting precinct, well, needless to say, I was very wrong! Surprise

voting day 003

Did I mention that there were many cars? Hee hee

voting day 004

Of course, the propaganda masters were out. But I took the bypass to get away from them. Tongue

voting day 005

The line was LONG…. But it moved very quickly, people were very friendly, as friendly as one can be at eight O’clock in the morning. SleepyYawnHee hee

voting day 006

The line moved very quickly, the voting staff was very professional. They even verified my voting information while in the line. Big Grin

voting day 007

Of course, a trip to a public school to vote, would not be complete without exposure to liberal propaganda. Rolling Eyes Yes, let’s study and celebrate Multi-Culturalism. Translation: Let’s be ashamed of our ethnic heritage, be ashamed of our forefather mistakes, and embrace Illegal Aliens in our country. Raised Eyebrow I think not! Phbbbttt

Well, those were the pictures that I could take. I was not allowed to snap photos inside the voting area, Which is understandable. I had one moron who snarled, “I don’t want any pictures taken of me!” (Rolling Eyes)  I said nothing. Dont tell anyone I wanted to tell him not to worry, because he was nothing I wanted to photograph anyhow. Devil Let’s just say that I did not want to break my camera. Hee heeTongue

Some things that I saw that stuck out in my mind. An elderly man, who was easily every bit of 75 or older, barely able to walk; who walked with the assistance of a cane. Who came out to vote. I believe that this election is that important to people. Which is absolutely amazing.

The precinct did have plenty of ballots, the line moved very quickly. There were no hassles at all. The election staff here was very friendly. There was an election ballot challenger, he was from the Republican Party. (Surprise there boy!) He was eyeballing the people voting. I somehow doubt that he is going to find any problems around here.

I am glad that that I went early. Because I believe had I waited, I would have been in line much longer.

For what it is worth, I did vote a straight Libertarian ticket this year. Last night, I did have some second thoughts about it, I did consider voting for Obama, however, principles won out over emotions.

It will be an interesting today and this evening and I will be here Blogging on the interesting stuff.

Even more stupidity from Republican Party….

Of which I am not a part of, nor will I ever be.

I happen to be looking at my RSS feeds tonight, and I happen to see a entry over at the NRO’s “The Corner”.

First watch the video:

Watch CBS Videos Online

To which the Editor of the National Review, Kathryn Jean Lopez replied:

Was There a Campaign Bus Nearby?

I mean, is there any more clearer indication to you, that the once fine National Review, founded by a great Conservative like the The Late William F. Buckley, has fallen into the hands of idiotic Neo-Conservative shills? I mean, even Buckley himself, before he passed acknowledged that the Magazine has changed direction.

At this point, I simply ask this. Call me a right of center, Call me a Libertarian Conservative, but don’t you ever call me a god damned Republican. Because the likes of Lopez do not speak for me, at all.

I just wonder, what is Lopez’s Immigration status? I bet an investigation into that would yield some very interesting info. For that damned matter, what’s a descendant of Mexicans doing commenting or American politics anyhow?

I know…. RAAAAAAAAACST!

Maybe You Should Not Vote
By: J.J. Jackson

A common myth, generally perpetrated by those that succeed when they convince the ignorant to act on their ignorance, is that everyone in American that can vote, because they are of legal age, should.  Like blind lemmings following a hypnotic siren, they hope to drive hordes of Americans (living and dead) to the polls at least one time each on Election Day.  But I am here to tell you that just because you can vote, you should not do so out of ignorance.

I know that statement contradicts common “wisdom,” but is it any different than telling you that you should not buy a new car without understanding exactly what you are buying or purchasing a new home without having it inspected for flaws first?  Would you make any major purchase without educating yourself?  If not, then why would you go into the voting booth on November 4th and essentially “purchase” the next Chief Executive of the United States without similar due diligence?  So, in that spirit, I have decided to run through a series of points that if you are ignorant on you should reconsider if you are really ready to cast your vote.

For example:

If you do not understand that the second amendment is a guarantee of an individual’s right to keep and bear arms, specifically enumerated as such over and over by the founding fathers, and you actually support a candidate that has worked to usurp such a basic right … maybe you should not vote.

If you have forgotten that John McCain authored and helped to pass the single greatest infringement of the first amendment (Campaign Finance Reform) in recent history, a law that effectively tells citizens when and how they can speak up on politics … maybe you should not vote.

On a similar note, if you actually think that infringing on the first amendment is a good thing and agreed with John McCain … maybe you should not vote.

If you do not understand that the progressive income tax was a major platform of Karl Marx’s communist agenda and support a candidate who favors increasing taxes on the rich while bribing other Americans to vote for him or her with the promise of no income taxes for themselves … maybe you should not vote.

If you have forgotten that the issue of amnesty for illegal aliens who violated legitimate United States laws and are, by definition, criminals is still on the table and support a candidate that may push for such a thing … maybe you should not vote.

If you actually think, perhaps because you were educated in the public schools, that the “general Welfare” clause of our Constitution grants the federal government a blank check to spend tax dollars on any benefit they can dream up and believe this despite the overwhelming majority of the founding fathers being on record stating the exact opposite … maybe you should not vote.

On a similar note, if you are living off the government largess and collecting a paycheck from the government under some program not authorized by the Constitution but implemented unconstitutionally to require the work of another to be confiscated to line your pockets … maybe you should not vote.

Let me go even further on this point by saying boldly, if you seriously think that federal spending can ever be reigned in without taking the axe to the welfare programs (Social Security, Welfare, Medicare, Medicaid, Food Stamps, etc.) which make up well over 60% of expenditures … maybe you should not vote.

If you cannot understand the simple concept that in pushing for higher taxes on those producing goods and services you consume, they will simply recoup those losses by raising the cost of the goods and services and get that money right back from you … maybe you should not vote.

If you claim to support the troops but choose instead to support a candidate that looks down his nose at their efforts and who is rejected by them in poll after poll of our servicemen and women (that would be Barack Obama in case you don’t know) … maybe you should not vote.

If you think, for some deluded reason, that an ideology of from each according to his ability, to each according to his work or needs with a central bureaucracy determining the value of your work and what your needs actually are will work if we give it another try, despite having never having worked ever or at any time in the past … maybe you should not vote.

Pursing that concept even further, if you honestly think that an ideology that taxes the “haves” and gives to the “have nots” actually works despite clear examples in the former Soviet Union, NAZI Germany, Mussolini’s Italy, Mao’s China, and with modern day North Korea, Mexico, Venezuela and Cuba which show how such ideas lead to poverty and misery … maybe you should not vote.

If you believe, in that little empty cranium of yours, that under President Bush’s tax cuts, the middle class did not get tax relief because some union news letter told you so … maybe you should not vote.

If you would rather live in some other country other than America and see that country as freer with a better basis for government of, for and by the people with inalienable rights for all guaranteed … maybe you should not vote.  And perhaps you should spend the time you save by not voting to pack your bags so that you can move there.

If, even though you think Congress is not doing a good job, you are going to vote back into Congress your Representatives and Senator because you seriously believe that the problem is all the other Congressmen and women but don’t know how your elected officials have voted and are not able to back up such a statement … maybe you should not vote.

If you think that the President has more control over the economy than Congress, which passes the laws that affect the economy … maybe you should not vote.

If you think that the Constitution can be changed on a whim and by judicial fiat, congressional law or presidential mandate because you have never actually read the document, or at least read it recently … maybe you should not vote.

If you think that the Republican Party is a racist organization and are going to vote based on that despite the fact that the party that fought against slavery, gave slaves the right to vote in the southern states before the Democrats regained power and stripped such rights and forget that the GOP stood up in overwhelming numbers for the rights of minorities throughout history … maybe you should not vote.

If you did not know that one of the major candidates in this year’s election has won endorsements from high ranking officials with the Communist Party USA and are too dim witted to even have a guess as to which one it may be … maybe you should not vote.

If you think that it is more important to have a President with a certain skin color without much concern for his politics and will vote for him because of his skin color … maybe you should not vote.

By the same token, if you are going to vote against a particular candidate because of his skin color (black or white) … maybe you should not vote.

And lastly, if you cannot be bothered to plan ahead and use the brain God gave you to find a way to get your butt to the polls one day out of the year (excluding members of the military and others with actual emergencies who should be accommodated) … maybe you should not vote.

Now, I honestly do not expect many of the citizens of this country who fall into one or more of the above categories to take my advice.  There are a lot of arrogant people out there who, even when the truth is laid before them, will not take notice of it. That truth which I have tried to impart to you is that a vote cast in ignorance makes you a tool of those seeking power.

A Republic survives when the public, educated on the issues and united in the pursuit of liberty, votes.  It fails and dies when disparate groups with no regards for the rights of others, the truth, or respect for the firewalls put up to protect the rights of all, vote in droves with nothing on their mind other than themselves and how much they can get the government to take from someone else to give to them.

Interesting Survey

Over at Reason Magazine.

Many Libertarians are voting Obama, to punish the Republicans for electing Bush.

Egad. 🙄

Myself, I’m sticking to principles. I’m still voting for Barr.

One interesting question:

Leaving George W. Bush out of consideration, what former U.S. president would you most like to have waterboarded and why?

My Answer: The entire staff, Bloggers, and Writers of The Weekly Standard except for Mary Katharine Ham, because she’s a respectable and downright pretty lady. Who seriously needs to get away from Politics, before it makes her into a monster.

Obama’s Misplaced Robin Hood Complex by J.J. Jackson

Obama’s Misplaced Robin Hood Complex
By: J.J. Jackson

Barack Obama, like any good liberal, has a Robin Hood complex.  This came out plainly when he bluntly told “Joe the Plumber”, a man who has been vilified by the left and has had his actual comment distorted into things he never said, that he wanted to, “spread the wealth around,” by taxing people who make too much.  In this case, Obama has set that bar at a level of $250,000.

When it became clear to the Marxist left who believe in, “from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs,” that such ideas were not going to fly in America as they had across Europe, they started to sing a different tune.  In singing that different tune they have co-opted the figure of Robin Hood whose claim to fame, they believe, was that he “stole from the rich” to “give to the poor”.  To an extent it is true, but not to the extent that liberals want you to believe.

Robin Hood is a beloved story told to many children and has admittedly undergone many tweaks and changes over time.  As time has worn on, the left has been able to portray themselves as modern day Robin Hoods who want to take from those that have too much to give to those that have little or nothing.  But the true story of Robin Hood is not simply that he “stole from the rich” and dispersed those spoils to the poor.  Rather, those that Robin Hood fought against were the bureaucrats and the corrupt that kept the people under the heal of their boot.  He fought against what was, at the time, excessive government and those that controlled the reins of power and the feudal order of the time.

In early tales Robin Hood was a member of the freeholder class and a land owner – not someone that was poor himself.  He had no real reason to stand up against the feudal system except that he saw it as wrong.

The Sheriff of Nottingham is perhaps Robin Hood’s best known adversary. In other tellings of the story Prince John was also right up there with the Sherriff and a cruel leader in the absence of King Richard who was off fighting in the crusades.  Both were of the nobility, the “chosen” class, and given fiat powers to rule over the people without consent of the people.  There were, for all intents and purposes, tyrannical politicians. The Sheriff was in fact, the “tax collector” of the day.

The second most famous enemy Robin Hood fights is Guy of Gisborne, whose roll changes depending on the exact story being told.  Whatever version of the story however, Guy of Gisborne is a corrupt figure in the service of the Sheriff either directly or indirectly and a partner in the corruption seeking out Robin Hood.

Others of Robin’s foes are members of the Catholic Church who have turned to corruption like the Bishop of Hereford who was fleecing his congregation for his own betterment.

In fact, Robin Hood was not just a champion of “the poor” but of what was right.  He regularly befriended tradesmen who would join his band of Merry Men.  Businessmen oppressed under the yoke of taxes, farmers, workers and even nobles rallied behind Robin Hood.  In fact, in early tales the “Merry Men” of Robin Hood were pretty well to do yeomen like figures.  They wielded swords, not the quarter staffs of later tales and of poorer folk, and swords were not cheap so one had to have money to have one.

Yes, depending on the telling of the story, the exact circumstances do change.  But overall the theme remains the same – Robin Hood fought against oppressive government and corrupt public officials and even church officials on behalf of the citizenry. Not just the poor, but all the citizenry.

This is a far cry from what liberals like Barack Obama want to do.  But for some reason they still envision themselves as modern day Robin Hoods.  Is it because of ignorance?  Is it because of stupidity?  No, it is because liberals do what they always do.  They change the meaning of words to suit their goals.  They rewrite history to clean their own consciousness while relabeling all the bad things their fellow travelers have done from slavery, to the formation of the KKK to Jim Crow laws to the murder of Jews during Hitler’s reign in Germany as somehow “right wing” and the product of conservative ideologies.  Meanwhile they portray themselves as heroic and fighting for the downtrodden.  Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain, the one at the switches and levers that wants to oppress and intimidate you into service.

They ignore the fact that Robin Hood was really more of a conservative than a liberal by today’s definitions of the terms and not a fellow traveler of theirs.  They ignore the fact that he fought against tyranny, the established political order of oppression and high taxes.  They ignore that that he took on corrupt religious leaders and called them to the carpet.  And while ignoring all this, they supplant themselves as the true heir to a false legacy they have created for Robin Hood.

Yes, Robin Hood did steal from the “rich”.  And by “rich” I mean the corrupt politicians and leaders of the day in which the stories are set.  But he did not run around, much to the dismay of liberals, taking on good people who worked hard to make a living for themselves, stripping coin from their purse and running off to give it to another man who had not earned it.

On the other hand, liberals like Barack Obama are all about empowering big government and high taxation.  Which makes them more like the Sheriff of Nottingham or Prince John than any sort of Robin Hood.

Michelle Bachmann and the Politics of Division

I write this article neither as a Liberal nor as a Conservative. I write this article as an American. I write this as a Caucasian American who holds to a set of Moderate to Right-Libertarian political views. I write this as someone who is quote worried about the direction our Nation is taking. I write this as someone who is heartsick over the deep divisions in the world of politics.

For the first time, since I have been Blogging, I feel the need to speak out against those who hold similar political views as mine. I am referring to the comments that were made by Rep. Michelle Bachmann. Rep. Michelle Bachmann on an appearance on MSNBC’s Hardball said that there were persons in the United States Congress, who held to Anti-American views. She also said that these people should be investigated.

Before I get into why I disapprove of this, let me make some things clear. Contrary to popular belief, my Politics is not as far right as some. In fact, I tend to lean towards the center of some issues. I am a moderate on many issues. Although, when it comes to our Military, My disdain of the Islam Religion, Our Nations Constitution, and a few other things, I am much to the right of some. However, on other issues, I tend to be more of a Libertarian. For example, I do not believe that it is the Governments right to tell a woman what to do with her body.

Now personally on a personal level, I object to Abortion on grounds that it is murder, this is because I am a Christian and I believe that life begins at conception. Nevertheless, on a Political Level, I believe that the United States Government does not have the right to dictate to woman what she can and cannot do with body. Furthermore, I do not believe that the State Government should dictate to a woman what she can and cannot do to her own body.

This is because I believe in personal freedom. I also reject the Conservative Christian idea of turning America into a Theocracy. I also believe in a full wall of separation of Church and State. However, just as well, I believe the woman should be given all the alternatives to terminating a pregnancy, however, if she decides to do so, that is between her and God. Let God be the judge of that woman. I reject the browbeating that the far right gives to those who decide to perform such an action. That sort of abject nonsense goes against the very core freedoms in our Constitution. Those that cannot separate between the political and spiritual realms should not involve themselves in politics at all.

Now do my personal political views of mine make me Anti-American? I think the sane and logical answer to that would be no. Now in the interest of full disclosure, I have little or no use for the far left. I will spare you the reasons for that. I will simply say that I did not leave the Democrat Party, it left me, long ago, especially during this election cycle. However, for me to sit here and write that Democrats were Anti-Americans would be a lesson in abject foolishness. Frankly, Rep. Michelle Bachmann’s comments yesterday did nothing to raise the level of political discourse in this country whatsoever. Rep. Michelle Bachmann was essentially doing a poor imitation of Ann Coulter or at worst channeling Joseph McCarthy. I am fully aware that it was written recently that Joseph McCarthy was correct on some matters; it, in fact, was the destructive behavior of Senator McCarthy that ruined his career.

It is this writer’s opinion that channeling Senator Joseph McCarthy in this desperate hour would be a total and unequivocal disaster to the Republican Party’s cause. It is not lost upon me that the political landscape of the Democratic Party has changed a great deal in the last eight years, Mrs. Katrina Vanden Heuvel ‘s response to the remarks being a perfect example of this. However, the channeling of McCarthyism will do nothing to further the Conservative cause. In fact, it will alienate more than it will help.

About Chris Buckley’s endorsement

Believe it or not. I totally understand why he endorsed Obama.

I while back here, I wrote that I felt that Obama would not bring anymore expansion to the Government, because it was already very large. It seems that Chris Buckley gets that and believe it or not, I believe that is a good thing.

Quoting Buckley:

My point, simply, is that William F. Buckley held to rigorous standards, and if those were met by members of the other side rather than by his own camp, he said as much. My father was also unpredictable, which tends to keep things fresh and lively and on-their-feet. He came out for legalization of drugs once he decided that the war on drugs was largely counterproductive. Hardly a conservative position. Finally, and hardly least, he was fun. God, he was fun. He liked to mix it up.

So, I have been effectively fatwahed (is that how you spell it?) by the conservative movement, and the magazine that my father founded must now distance itself from me. But then, conservatives have always had a bit of trouble with the concept of diversity. The GOP likes to say it’s a big-tent. Looks more like a yurt to me.

While I regret this development, I am not in mourning, for I no longer have any clear idea what, exactly, the modern conservative movement stands for. Eight years of “conservative” government has brought us a doubled national debt, ruinous expansion of entitlement programs, bridges to nowhere, poster boy Jack Abramoff and an ill-premised, ill-waged war conducted by politicians of breathtaking arrogance. As a sideshow, it brought us a truly obscene attempt at federal intervention in the Terry Schiavo case.

So, to paraphrase a real conservative, Ronald Reagan: I haven’t left the Republican Party. It left me.

Thanks, anyway, for the memories, and here’s to happier days and with any luck, a bit less fresh hell.

The reason why I say that it is a good thing is because of this; it is becoming more and more obvious to more and more Conservatives, inside and outside of the realm of the G.O.P. that the Grand Old Party has a horrid image problem to Liberals and Conservatives alike. The party basically elected someone based upon pedigree, rather than based upon actual merits.

That person went on to allow his administration to trample on the Constitution, and do all of the things that Chris listed above, plus quite a few that he did not, or was not willing to mention. I would list them all, but this Blog entry would be 50 pages long.

So, while I might not agree on his actual assessment of Obama, simply because he is an advocate of the expansion of that big Government that Conservatives and Libertarians, like me, simply do not agree with, nor believe in. I do believe that someone, like Chris, finally speaking up and saying, “This Party is not the party of my Father”, is a rather awesome step in the right direction. That very feeling is the same feeling that caused David Nolan on December 11, 1971 to form what is now called the Libertarian Party.

It is my hope and yes, possibly even a prayer; that more people within the party will wake up from the stupor that is known as Bush’ism or more accurately Neo-Conservatism. This will be about the only way that the Republican Party can mop up the mess and move on to another era in Conservatism. They must, as collective whole organization; say, without any hesitation or discord, “Never Again.”

A Political Byline Special Presentation: Crawford

My friend Ryan sent me this. Normally I do not post things that other people send to me. But in light of recent events that landed in the crosshairs of the left and landed me on Gawker.com. I am publishing this Movie to show those, who might want to kill me or at worse call me names, that I am not some sort of Bush loving, flag waving freak, who thinks anyone that disagrees with me is inherently evil.

This movie is about the town that President George W. Bush basically used as a prop for his Presidential Campaign. You will see a town, that got swept up into the fury of support for George W. Bush and a town flourish because of it. You’ll see a town that became ground zero for an Anti-War and Pro-War movement that almost drove it apart. Finally, you will see a town, that lives in almost ruin, and is possibly divided, all because of the political ambitions and a warped political ideology of President, who is now leaving that town and moving somewhere else.

This movie shows something, something interesting, something frightening, something that only affirms my beliefs that I could never, ever, be a Republican. It shows us that people that fail to think for themselves and allow themselves to be blinded by a flawed Political Ideology are truly shallow and quite frankly, scary people. Further more, it shows how those who mix their Religious beliefs and their Politics are very dangerous people.

Have said all that, I present to you…… Crawford

“To The Pain” By J. J. Jackson

To The Pain!
By J.J. Jackson

In the movie “The Princess Bride”, our hero, Wesley, is feeble after recovering from a state of being “mostly dead”.  What was it that saved him from death?  “True love” saved him; his love for Princess Buttercup and a refusal to let go of that love.  This love was so pure and so true that while he was on death’s door it would not let him slip from the world.  Several scenes later he is lying on a bed and quipping about a shortage of perfect breasts as his true love refrains from killing herself only at the sight of the man she thought she would never see again.

He is barely able to move from his ordeal however, as Princess Buttercup soon learns.  What follows however is an illustrative scene and a test of wills between someone with faith in something more than himself and a man with only faith in himself.  Prince Humperdinck, the villain who attempted to kill Wesley so that he could marry the Princess, bursts into the room beginning one of the most memorable scenes because of its seriousness in a movie that is mostly known for its comedic plots and humorous dialogue.

Wesley is in no shape to fight for the love of his life.  But the Princess is the love of his life.  So he has no real choice.  And besides, it was his faith in his true love that saved him and he knows it so he cannot abandon that now.  So Wesley makes a stand for what he believes in and challenges the Prince.  Prince Humperdinck, proclaims that it will be a fight to the death.  But Wesley quickly corrects him.  No, this battle will be not to the death, but “to the pain”.

The evil prince is not familiar with such a concept so our hero begins, “I’ll explain. And I’ll use small words so that you’ll be sure to understand, you warthog-faced buffoon.” The Prince is taken back by this considering it the first time that anyone had dared to insult him, at least to his face.  Wesley has taken him off guard and our hero’s faith stuns the Prince, who could easily have killed our hero by now, into inaction.  His own faith in himself is shaken at seeing the resolution in Wesley.

Our hero taunts, “‘To the pain’ means the first thing you lose will be your feet, below the ankles, then your hands at the wrists. Next your nose.”

Humperdinck becomes frustrated at listening to what he considers rambling, “And then my tongue, I suppose. I killed you too quickly the last time, a mistake I don’t mean to duplicate tonight.”

Wesley corrects him telling him that there was more and that, “The next thing you lose will be your left eye, followed by your right –”

The prince is now completely frustrated and makes a bad assumption, “And then my ears, I understand! Let’s get on with it -”

“WRONG!,” Wesley corrects him, “Your ears you keep, and I’ll tell you why. So that every shriek of every child at seeing your hideousness will be yours to cherish. Every babe that weeps at your approach, every woman who cries out, ‘Dear God, what is that thing?’ will echo in your perfect ears. That is what ‘to the pain’ means. It means I leave you in anguish, wallowing in freakish misery forever.”

Humperdinck after hearing all of this is even more frightened.  Someone is standing up to him.  He thinks this man before him is too feeble to confront him but the conviction and strength in Wesley’s voice has him on his heals.  “I think you’re bluffing,” the prince cockily proclaims but makes no move.

Wesley then plays into his claims.  “It’s possible, pig. I might be bluffing. It’s conceivable, you miserable vomitous mass, that I’m only lying here because I lack the strength to stand. Then again, perhaps I have the strength after all.”  Then he does something that Humperdinck does not expect and that frightens him so greatly that the entire confrontation turns on it.  Up until now everything from Wesley’s mouth has been just words.  But slowly Wesley lifts himself off the bed through sheer force of will, lifts the point of his sword towards the prince and says in a measured and menacing tone, “Drop – your – sword.”

Humperdinck, so frightened that he probably needed a change of tights at this point, drops his sword and is then tied up by the Princess.  After he is secure, an exhausted Wesley slumps down and prince Humperdinck proclaims that he knew Wesley was bluffing.  The problem is he “knew it” too late.

Why on Earth am I recounting this scene from “The Princess Bride” for you in a space reserved for political commentary?  Because there is a correlation between what happened in this scene and what is going on right now in America.  Anyone who has seen this movie knows that the only reason Wesley was put in a situation of being “mostly dead” in the first place was because his love made a bargain to, so she thought, save him.  But that bargain was never kept by the wicked men the deal was made with.

The wicked never keep their word because, no matter how much they protest, they have no honor.

Over the years we too have made bargains with the honorless and wicked to try and save someone that we love; Lady Liberty.  But time and again we have been betrayed by those with sinister motives and that are desirous of power much like Prince Humperdinck.  We have betrayed our ideals too many times in the name of noble goals, but goals that cannot be reached through coercion and bad policy.

Increasing home ownership in America is a noble goal.  But the means by which we attempted to do so was to force people into making bad loans to bad risks.  We have forced Lady Liberty to her knees and placed American Idealism on death’s door in a state of being “mostly dead”.  But she survived because what she represents is too pure to be killed by the villains among us.

Even though she has survived though, she is weak.  But this week, as she lay on the bed with the enemy hovering over her, she called them out and brought them to her knees finding enough strength to stand and face down those that want to kill America once and for all.

This week, Lady Liberty stood up and proudly proclaimed to the enemies of freedom and the accountability that comes with it, that she was challenging them to a battle not to the death, but to “the pain.”  Because we are going to have pain now whether we like it or not.  There is no escaping that fact.  We are going to have pain because of the villains that we have allowed to rule us for far too long and they are not willing to back down and have once again saddled us, the American taxpayer, with billions in debt.

Unlike in “The Princess Bride” however there will not be just one great confrontation, “to the pain,” to end it all.  We will have to constantly challenge the enemies of liberty to battles, “to the pain,” for months and perhaps decades to come.  And we must win each one or suffer the consequences.

In so winning these battles, we must leave those villains that we face disfigured by the roadside with their own “perfect ears” so that they can hear those that pass by mocking them and their failures and asking loudly, “Dear God, what is that thing?”.  Leaving the disfigured stump of socialism by the roadside to remind everyone of how it fails and how it needs to be defeated is the only way to make people remember the “pain” we have suffered under it.

But if we don’t?  Then they will kill Lady Liberty once and for all.  But at least today Lady Liberty is standing and commanding the foes of freedom to, “Drop – their – swords.”  And I will stand with her and proudly proclaim that I am willing to battle, “to the pain,” because as long as I feel pain I am reminded that I am alive and that I will be free or die trying.

A very interesting video on our Nation’s banking system

This video, made by the Ludwig Von Mises Institute, makes the case of why the United States of America should go to a 100% gold standard.

I highly recommend that everyone watch this video.

Also, I recommend everyone go to my bookstore and check out the section on the gold standard.

Speaking of OY! John McCain’s chief of staff is GAY!!!!

If this hits the Main Stream media, it very well could ruin John McCain’s Presidential Campaign.

It appears that John McCain’s Chief of staff is a Homosexual

Quote:

What does John McCain’s loyal chief of staff – a man who apparently is in a long-term relationship with another man, and appears to be open about it to John McCain — think about the fact that Sarah Palin devoutly worships at a church that promotes “converting” gays to heterosexuality? What, conversely, does she think of him? More importantly, what does John McCain think about all of this? And don’t we deserve some answers from the American media?

Over the past month I’ve been contacted by three different individuals (two of them members of the Log Cabin Republicans) claiming that McCain’s Senate chief of staff, Mark Buse, is gay. None of these individuals would be quoted by name, though each described Buse as being rather “open” to those around him and to his family – in a “glass closet” rather than deeply undercover or trying to appear heterosexual.

Then I was contacted in recent weeks by 46-year-old Brian Davis, an Arizona resident, who told me about his intimate relationship with Mark Buse (confirmed by Davis’ mother, as well as by a long-time friend), and who decided he needed to tell the truth about Buse, on the record, in light of John McCain’s dramatic shift to the ideological religious right in this election and his choice of Sarah Palin, starlet of the evangelical movement, as a running mate. (Repeated calls to Mark Buse’s office and calls and email to McCain’s communications office in the Senate regarding this story were unreturned. Mike Rogers, the blogger and activist who revealed the truth about Senator Larry Craig and others in politics, today reports this same reality about Mark Buse that I report here, with separate, independent sourcing.)

[…]

The traditional media may be petrified to pick up this story but people across the country who see McCain’s hypocrisy and who support equality will only demand more answers. Certainly our media could serve us better by getting us those answers rather than once again putting their heads in the sand.

Unbelievable. I’ve always said that the Republican Party is becoming more and more like the Democratic Party everyday. The line of separation is become smaller and more blurred by the minute.

Can someone please tell me, just what the hell happened to the Party of Morals? I always thought that the G.O.P. was the Party of Christian morals? I always thought that the Republican Party was the Anti-Liberal Party? I thought it was the one who differed themselves from the Party of God-forsaken homosexuals? It seems that I was quite wrong about that.

Between this and the Republicans selling the Fiscal Conservatives, like me, up the damn river. I’m almost inclined to believe that the Republican has officially gone to hell.

Needless to say, The Republican Party is NOT the Party of Ronald Reagan. I mean, A gay staffer, A female V.P. pick? What the hell is going on in that Party??!?!?! Whatever happened to women staying home and raising their children and being a good Conservative Christian Woman?  Whatever happened to Conservatives shunning the sin-depraved Homosexuals?

It simply boggles the mind….

The Stupid Sara Palin “Tanning Bed-Gate” Story

Just my comments on this rather idiotic story

Quote:

Sarah Palin brought one unusual accessory to the Alaska Governor’s mansion after moving in last year: A tanning bed.

Al Giordano’s NarcoNews first reported that Palin had the apparatus installed in the mansion in Juneau, and a spokesman for the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, Roger Wetherell, confirmed the account to Politico.

[…]

It does get awful dark up there in Alaska, but health authorities like the American Cancer Society generally frown on tanning beds as cancer risks.

The McCain-Palin campaign didn’t have an immediate comment on the purchase

While at the outset this might seem to be a outrage and may make people want to reconsider voting for McCain, But there’s one little problem with the whole scandal.

“She paid for it with her own money,” Wetherell said in an email.

So, as far as I am concerned, this is a non-story.

I mean, I am all for bringing out stories of corruption, mismanagement, and the fact that McCain is on the wrong end of the many issues facing this country at the moment. This is just not one of those kind of stories.

Chalk this one up as a rather stupid story that made it into the MSM.

Keith Olbermann’s Special Comment: The Republicans Hijacked 9/11

Finally, Keith Olbermann has his say on a subject that I wrote about a while back.

Transcript: (via MSNBC)

As promised, a Special Comment about our sad anniversary tomorrow.

Or, more correctly, what our sad anniversary tomorrow has been turned into by the presidential administration, and the current Republican candidates for President and Vice President.

This is supposed to be a day of remembrance. Remembrance of the attack, remembrance of the national unity which followed it.

Most important of all, remembrance of the dead.

But 9/11 has become a brand name. A Republican campaign slogan. Propaganda of the lowest form. 9/11 has become 9/11 with a trademark logo.

9/11 (TM) has sustained a president who long ago should have been dismissed, or impeached. It has kept him and his gang of financial and constitutional crooks in office without — literally — any visible means of support.

9/11 (TM) has made possible the greatest sleight-of-hand in our nation’s history.

The political party in office at the time of the attacks, at the local, state and national levels, the party which uniformly ignored the warnings and the presidential administration already through twenty percent of its first term and no longer wet behind the ears, have not only thus far escaped any blame for the malfeasance and criminal neglect that allowed the attacks to occur, but that presidency and that party, have managed to make it seem as if the other political party would be solely and irredeemably responsible for any similar catastrophe in the future.

Thus, Sen. McCain, were you able to accomplish a further inversion of reality at your party’s nominating convention last week.

There was the former Mayor of the City of New York,  the one who took no counter-terrorism measure in his seven years in office between the first attack on the World Trade Center, and the second attack.

Nothing, except to insist, despite all advice and warning, that his Emergency Command Center be moved directly into the World Trade Center.

Yet there was this man, Sir, Rudolph Giuliani, quite succinctly dismissed as “A Noun, a Verb, and 9/11,” and repudiated even by Republican voters,  transformed into the keynote speaker, Sen. McCain at your convention.

And his childish, squealing, braying, Tourette’s-like repetition of 9/11 (TM), was greeted not as conclusive evidence that he is consumed by massive guilt – hard-earned guilt, in fact  but rather as some kind of political tour-de-force, an endorsement of your Vice Presidential nominee, a rookie governor , a facile and slick con artist.

The blind endorsing the bland, to a chorus of 9/11 (TM), 9/11 (TM), 9/11 (TM.)

Your ringing mindless cheer of “We’ve Kept You Safe Since Then.”While nobody asks “doesn’t then count?”

All of this, sadistically disrespecting the dead of New York, and Washington, and Shanksville. Endorsed,  Sen. McCain. Exploited, Sen. McCain. Trademarked, Sen. McCain by you.

And yet of course the exact moment in which Sen. McCain’s Republicans showed the nation exactly how far they have fallen from the Better Angels of Mr. Lincoln’s Nature, came the next night.

The television networks were told that the Convention would pause, early in the evening, when children could still be watching, for a 9/11 Tribute, and they were encouraged to broadcast it.

What we got was not a tribute to the dead of 9/11, nor even a tribute to the responders, or the singularity of purpose we all felt. The Republicans gave us sociological pornography, a virtual snuff film.

Years ago, responsible television networks, to the applause of the nation, and the relief of its mental health authorities, voluntarily stopped showing the most graphic of the images of the World Trade Center, except with the strongest of warnings.

And yet, the Republicans, at their convention, having virtually seized control of the cable news operations, showed the worst of it.

This is all anyone with a conscience can show you of what the Republicans showed you. The actual collapse of the smoking towers.

A fleeting image of what might have been a victim leaping to his death from a thousand feet up. And something new. From this angle, ground-level, perfectly framed, images, of the fireball created when the second plane hit the second tower.

It was terrifying. After all its object was to terrify. Not to commemorate, not to call for unity, not to remember the dead. But to terrify.

To open again the horrible wounds, to brand the skin of this nation with the message — as hateful as the terrorists’ own, that you must vote Republican or this will happen again and you will die.

And just in case that was not enough, to also dishonestly and profanely conflate 9/11 with the 1979 Iran Hostage Crisis, to stoke the flames of paranoia about another Middle Eastern Nation.

This was a 9/11 Tribute. Not to the dead, nor to the unity. But a tribute to how valuable 9/11 has been as a political tool for the Republican Party. 9/11… (TM.)

Sen. McCain, you had promised us a clean campaign. You could be Snow-White the rest of the way, Sir, yet that manipulative videotape from your convention should tar you always in the minds of decent Americans.

And still, as this seventh 9/11 (TM) approaches that, Sir, is not the worst of your contributions to the utter politicizing of a day that should be sacrosanct to all of us.

Hard to believe, but the Senator has done worse with 9/11 and the evil behind it.

We heard it last week in Minnesota, we’ve heard it off and on since January but Senator McCain said it most concisely in June.

“Look,” he said. “I know the area, I’ve been there, I know wars, I know how to win wars, and I know how to improve our capabilities so that we will capture Osama bin Laden — or put it this way, bring him to justice. We will do it. I know how to do it.”

Sen. McCain seems to be quite serious, that he and he alone, not the CIA, nor the U.S. Military, nor the current President  can capture bin Laden.

Thus we must take him at his word, that this is no mere ludicrous campaign boast.

We must assume Sen. McCain truly believes he is capable of doing this, and has been capable of doing this, since last January. “We will capture Osama bin Laden… we will do it. I know how to do it.”

Well then, Senator, you’d better go and do it hadn’t you?

Because, Sir, if a man or woman in this nation, Democrat or Republican, had a clear and effective means of capturing or killing Osama bin Laden…

If that person had been advertising his claim, Senator for eight months.

But if that person not only refused to go to responsible authorities in government and advise them of this plan to catch bin Laden, but further announced he would not even begin to enact this secret plan to corral the world’s most hated man until the end of next January.

What would be your description of such an individual, Senator? Charlatan? Do-nothing? Opportunist? Sen. McCain, if you have, if you have had a means of capturing Osama bin Laden, and you do not immediately inform some responsible authority of the full scope of that plan, you are to some degree great or small aiding and abetting Osama bin Laden.

If you could assist in capturing him now, Sen. McCain, but you have chosen not to you, Sir, have helped Osama bin Laden stay free.

Free to inspire and supervise the terrorists. Free to plan or execute attacks here.

You, Sir, are blackmailing some portion of the American electorate into voting for your party, by promising to help in the capture of bin Laden only if you are made president!

I’d rather win an election than catch bin Laden! No more cynical calculation has ever been made in this nation’s history, Sir. If you lose the election, Senator, are you not going to tell the President-Elect?

Are you intending to keep this a secret until the next election and your party’s next nominee? Senator, as you and your Republicans shed your phony, crocodile, opportunistic tears tomorrow on 9/11 TM, in front of the utterly disingenuous banner “Country First,” the fact is, you have shown that it is John McCain first, and the country last.

The fact is, Sir, by holding out on your secret plan to catch bin Laden by searing those images into our collective wounded American psyche at your nomination last week, terrorists are not what you, John McCain, fight. Terrorists are what you, John McCain, use.

Amen and Amen. This is why I will not be voting Republican, ever.

Libertarian Blogger attempts to make case for Obama….

Sorry, I’m not buying this one.

Marginal Revolution:

First, war.  War is the antithesis of the libertarian philosophy of consent, voluntarism and trade.  With every war in American history Leviathan has grown larger and our liberties have withered.  War is the health of the state. And now, fulfilling the dreams of Big Brother, we are in a perpetual war.

A country cannot long combine unlimited government abroad and limited government at home. The Republican party has become the party of war and thus the party of unlimited government.

With war has come FEAR, magnified many times over by the governing party. Fear is pulling Americans into the arms of the state. If only we were better at resisting. Alas, we Americans say that we love liberty but we are fair-weather lovers.  Liberty will flourish only with peace.

Have libertarians gained on other margins in the past eight years? Not at all. Under the Republicans we have been sailing due South-West on the Nolan Chart – fewer civil liberties and more government, including the largest new government program in a generation, the Medicare prescription drug plan, and the biggest nationalization since the Great Depression. Tax cuts, the summum bonum of Republican economic policy, are a sham. The only way to cut taxes is to cut spending and that has not happened.

The libertarian voice has not been listened to in Republican politics for a long time. The Republicans take the libertarian wing of the party for granted and with phony rhetoric and empty phrases have bought our support on the cheap. Thus – since voice has failed – it is  time for exit.  Remember that if a political party can count on you then you cannot count on it.

Exit is the right strategy because if there is any hope for reform it is by casting the Republicans out of power and into the wilderness where they may relearn virtue. Libertarians understand better than anyone that power corrupts. The Republican party illustrates. Lack of power is no guarantee of virtue but Republicans are a far better – more libertarian – party out-of-power than they are in power. When in the wilderness, Republicans turn naturally to a critique of power and they ratchet up libertarian rhetoric about free trade, free enterprise, abuse of government power and even the defense of civil liberties.  We can hope that new leaders will arise in this libertarian milieu.

Nope, not buying this one at all. Why? I’ll tell you why, Because Barack Obama is the MOST liberal senator, and that’s left of Ted Kennedy and Nancy Pelosi according to the National Journal.  I am sorry, I am not, I repeat, I am NOT voting for an outright socialist. This man, wants to punish the rich for the failures of the current administration, that’s the whole tax the rich, and give to the poor, that is the whole entire new Democrat platform. Well, really, it is not new, Ronald Reagan noted it in 1964:

“……Last February 19 at the University of Minnesota, Norman Thomas, six-time candidate for President on the Socialist Party ticket, said, "If Barry Goldwater became President, he would stop the advance of socialism in the United States." I think that’s exactly what he will do.

As a former Democrat, I can tell you Norman Thomas isn’t the only man who has drawn this parallel to socialism with the present administration. Back in 1936, Mr. Democrat himself, Al Smith, the great American, came before the American people and charged that the leadership of his party was taking the party of Jefferson, Jackson, and Cleveland down the road under the banners of Marx, Lenin, and Stalin. And he walked away from his party, and he never returned to the day he died, because to this day, the leadership of that party has been taking that party, that honorable party, down the road in the image of the labor socialist party of England. Now it doesn’t require expropriation or confiscation of private property or business to impose socialism on a people. What does it mean whether you hold the deed or the title to your business or property if the government holds the power of life and death over that business or property? Such machinery already exists. The government can find some charge to bring against any concern it chooses to prosecute. Every businessman has his own tale of harassment. Somewhere a perversion has taken place. Our natural, inalienable rights are now considered to be a dispensation of government, and freedom has never been so fragile, so close to slipping from our grasp as it is at this moment. Our Democratic opponents seem unwilling to debate these issues. They want to make you and I believe that this is a contest between two men…that we are to choose just between two personalities.” — Address on behalf of Senator Barry Goldwater – Rendezvous with Destiny – October 27, 1964

I cannot, as a Christian, As a Libertarian, As a Independent Conservative, in good conscience, vote for a man who holds to that sort political philosophy. Some may disagree, but this Blogger an voter, is not swayed, and I will voting for what I believe in, come November 4, 2008.

Double standards in Politics

It isn’t every day that I agree with stuff that is written in my hometown paper. However, this particular article is an notable exception.

Stephen Henderson in the Detroit Free Press writes:

What if Palin were a black woman governor from, say, Illinois, who had been added to the Democratic ticket? What if her 17-year-old daughter had been impregnated by an 18-year-old, basketball-playing black kid from Chicago with no college plans or discernable means of income?

Bet the house that we’d have seen a number of insulting and demeaning stereotypes invoked — by some of the same folks praising the Palins’ handling of the situation — over and over again.

How many times would we have heard about the evils of the “rap culture,” its focus on promiscuity, and its influence on young people?

How many times would we have heard the term “baby daddy” used as a pejorative — rather than as a hip term in the celebrity press — against the father? (In June, Fox News even referred to Barack Obama’s wife, Michelle, as his “baby mama.”)

How many times would we have been lectured about the rampant problem of teenage sex among African Americans, and how teaching kids about birth control, rather than preaching abstinence-only, just doesn’t work?

In short, how many times would this situation have been used to reinforce criticisms that African Americans endure — about rampant social ills, the collapse of the traditional family unit, a culture that supposedly doesn’t value stability — all the time?

Maybe those criticisms have some merit; but then why aren’t they being leveled as strongly against the Palins?

I hate to admit this, but he’s absolutely right. Because if it were Barack Obama’s daughters who were pregnant at age 17, the conservative press would be having a field day with them. It just seems to me that there is a large double standard, when it comes to Conservative women as opposed to Liberal women in the press in the blogging world and in the media in general.

Another example would be, what if it were Hillary Clinton’s daughter Chelsea, and she was 17 years old and turned up pregnant? You can be absolutely sure, that the Conservative media and Bloggers would be having a field day with her.

Steven goes on to write:

This is what I call the persistent, tacit bigotry of double standards. It’s not an overt racism, like job or housing discrimination. It simply plays out in stark differences in the way Americans see things and react to them.

It’s not unrelated to the bizarre celebration of the idea that the Palins are white trash — a term I caught several conservative commentators using endearingly during the Republican convention. It’s meant harmlessly, as a way of saying the Palins share important cultural touchstones and life challenges with an awful lot of other Americans.

But you’d never see or hear such flattering references to a black candidate being “ghetto.”

The substantive difference between white trash and being ghetto is probably negligible, but the perceived difference is huge, and I say that has got almost everything to do with race. Black culture is seen as besotten with damaging, dangerous and undesirable problems, so much so that any association with it can pose a threat to a black candidate. (Remember the flap over the Obamas’ fist bump after one of the big primary wins?)

But set the same problems in the context of a white family, and they can be excused away, or even celebrated as paragons of American culture. Sarah Palin’s daughter and her fiance are being hailed as moral heroes because of the way they’ve handled their situation; black kids would be condemned and held up as a teachable example for just being in that situation in the first place.

Ugly as it is, that’s an indelible part of American culture, and however this campaign ends, I doubt we’ll leave it behind anytime soon.

I’ll tell you, I’ve never much agreed with anything that’s published in the Detroit Free Press, seeing that this is a liberal area around here and all, but Stephen makes a very valid point. Why is it that we as Americans, especially we white Americans, when we see a young black woman pregnant at 17 years old, we want to call her a slut, but when we see a 17 year old white Conservative female get knocked up, we want to give her a free pass?

Furthermore, it just seems very funny to me, that when Hillary Clinton was in this race, there were a lot of people, Conservative and not so conservative, who were telling Hillary Clinton that she needed to get out of the race, that she was nothing more than a distraction, but now that Sarah palin is in the race, Oh, that’s just perfectly fine. It’s because the United States of America has a double standard, a double standard on liberal vs. conservative when it comes to women, a double standard when it comes to teen pregnancy in conservative white women as opposed to liberal black women.

I believe that Sarah Palin should be held to the same exact standards as any other person that’s running in politics. The very idea that Sarah Palin should be treated with kid gloves, because she is a woman is preposterous. Because feminists have fought long and hard for years and years, to get the same exact rights as men, and so if she wants to be in this race she should be treated with the same exact harshness as any other person male or female who decides to enter into the field of politics. Furthermore, Sarah Palin should be subjected to the same open criticism as John McCain and Barack Obama. If they happen to catch Sarah Palin in a lie, like the one she just recently told about selling a jet on e-bay, it should be exposed and she should be criticized just as harshly, as she would be, if she was a man. I am very sorry, but just because Sarah Palin has two breasts and a Vagina does not excuse her from criticism from the mainstream media.

But we all know that in this era of double standards, when it comes to women vs. men, that Sarah palin will be treated with kid gloves by the media and by people in her own party, who will go as far as to excuse some of her actions because she’s a girl.

Of course, I feel personally as a Fundamentalist Christian, that putting Sarah Palin on the ticket, is a classic example of the watering down of true Conservatism in America. Because quite frankly, 50 years ago, a woman on the Republican ticket either for President or Vice President would have been totally unheard of. It is been said that politics is a reflection of society is a whole, and likewise the Republican party is a reflection of Conservative society as a whole, and the reflection of the Evangelical Christian Conservative movement as a whole. I feel, as a former Evangelical turned Fundamentalist Christian, that putting Sarah Palin on this ticket is a reflection of the abject compromise that is overtaken that movement. Furthermore, the putting of a female on the Vice President ticket of the Republican Party, is a clear and open manifestation of Conservative society’s moving away from its strict adherence to Biblical truths. After all the Bible does say:

Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. (1 Timothy 2:11-14 KJV)

For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God. (1 Corinthians 11:8-12 KJV)

Now before anyonw bites my head off, and accuses me of being a sexist. Those words up there not my words, those words of the words of the Bible. The same Bible that Sarah Palin claims to believe in, it’s the same Bible that those Evangelical Christians claim to believe in as well. But yet, they totally ignore its words when they support a woman candidate for Vice President. It is truly a sad state of affairs.

Interesting:Democratic Party Convention flag story Bogus

Remember that Story that I reported on, about Democrats dumping flags? Turns out, it was bogus.

Via the Huffington Post:

UPDATE: DNC spokeswoman Karen Finney issues a statement: “American flags were proudly waved by the 75,000 people who joined Barack Obama at the Democratic Convention. John McCain should applaud that, but instead his supporters wrongfully took leftover bundles of our flags from the stadium to play a cheap political stunt calling into question our patriotism. On the same day he agrees to join Barack Obama at Ground Zero on September 11, John McCain attacks the patriotism of Obama supporters who so proudly waved the American flag at our historic event in Denver just days ago.”

UPDATE II: Another statement from the Democratic National Convention Committee: “Stories circulating about flags at the Democratic National Convention are false. We distributed more than 125,000 American made flags at the Convention – the flags removed from Invesco field were intended for other events and taken without permission. It’s disappointing that someone would take American flags without authorization and then falsely describe how they were being used. We have the utmost respect for the American flag, and it’s sad to see them being used for a cheap political stunt.”

I apologize for even Blogging about this, at all. If, in fact, John McCain’s campaign was responsible for this bogus story getting out, it shows the level of desperation by the campaign to discredit the Democrats in the election.

What levels will Neo-Conservatives stoop to, to win an election!

There’s more, TPM is also reporting:

According to a article just out from Huffington Post, the story about flags from the Democratic National Convention being thrown away is simply false. The story was jumped on and apparently authored by the McCain campaign. But the real tell is down in the Huffpo piece where it traces the story to none other than Fox News’ Carl Cameron.

Longtime readers of TPM will remember that back in October 2004 this site caught Cameron publishing a series of fabricated quotes attributed to John Kerry on the front page of the Fox News website.

After I placed a series of calls to Fox News inquiring about the Kerry story, the story was eventually pulled, and Fox was forced to issue an apology and retract the fabricated story. Fox spokesman Paul Schur told TPM: “Carl [Cameron] made a stupid mistake which he regrets. And he has been reprimanded for his lapse in judgment. It was a poor attempt at humor.”

Why anybody would believe anything this joker says is difficult to fathom. But he’s good enough for McCain.

I should have known Faux Noise would have been in on this whole thing. Not surprising at all. 🙄

Bob Barr’s Statement on Hurricane Gustav

This comes via Bob Barr 2008 Blog

Bob Barr, Wayne Allyn Root and the rest of us in the campaign would like to send along our thoughts and prayers to everyone caught in the path of Hurricane Gustav.

New Orleans is one of my favorite towns in the country. I visited there in 2002 for the first time and it was great. My wife and I visited again last year. The city had rebounded much more than I expected and the spirit of the town never left. It’s terrible that they are staring down another potentially devastating storm.

While many of us will spend our holiday weekend cooking out or spending time with our families, please take a moment and remember those that are caught up in the storm.
