You may wish to know this because, if ever you had an irrational desire to charter one, now would be the time. This time last year, an Aframax tanker capable of carrying 80,000 tons of cargo would cost £31,000 a day ($50,000). Now it is about £3,400 ($5,500)


This is why the chilliest financial winds anywhere in the City of London are to be found blowing through its 400-plus shipping brokers.

The last to feel the tail of the economic whiplash, they – and their insurers and lawyers – await a wave of redundancies and business failures in the next six months. Commerce is contracting, fleets rust away – yet new ship-builds ordered years ago are still coming on stream.


Just 12 months ago these financiers and brokers were enjoying fat bonuses as they traded cargo space. But nobody wants the space any more, and those that still need to ship goods across the world are demanding vast reductions in price.

Do not tell these men and women about green shoots of recovery. As Briton Tim Huxley, one of Asia’s leading ship brokers, says, if the world is really pulling itself out of recession, then all these idle ships should be back on the move.

‘This is the time of year when everyone is doing all the Christmas stuff,’ he points out.

‘A couple of years ago those ships would have been steaming back and forth, going at full speed. But now you’ve got something like 12 per cent of the world’s container ships doing nothing.’

Aframaxes are oil bearers. But the slump is industry-wide. The cost of sending a 40ft steel container of merchandise from China to the UK has fallen from £850 plus fuel charges last shipsatsea2year to £180 this year. The cost of chartering an entire bulk freighter suitable for carrying raw materials has plunged even further, from close to £185,000 ($300,000) last summer to an incredible £6,100 ($10,000) earlier this year.

Business for bulk carriers has picked up slightly in recent months, largely because of China’s rediscovered appetite for raw materials such as iron ore, says Huxley. But this is a small part of international trade, and the prospects for the container ships remain bleak.

Some experts believe the ratio of container ships sitting idle could rise to 25 per cent within two years in an extraordinary downturn that shipping giant Maersk has called a ‘crisis of historic dimensions’. Last month the company reported its first half-year loss in its 105-year history.

Martin Stopford, managing director of Clarksons, London’s biggest ship broker, says container shipping has been hit particularly hard: ‘In 2006 and 2007 trade was growing at 11 per cent. In 2008 it slowed down by 4.7 per cent. This year we think it might go down by as much as eight per cent. If it costs £7,000 a day to put the ship to sea and if you only get £6,000 a day, than you have got a decision to make.

No matter what your politics is; this is truly bad. Living proof that were are in a globalist economy, and when America hurts; the World hurts too. Of course, the American Presidential Administration that caused all this, is long gone. The Clinton Administration.  If the Clinton Administration had not used it’s housing commissioner to pressure Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae to produce those high risk, Adjustable rate Mortgages; which ended up being traded as credit swaps on the market; none of this would have ever happened. But it did, and the balloon economy was created, and the World went with it. When the Balloon popped; the rest of the world came down with it.

It is truly sad thing to behold. But there were warnings and they went unheeded. So, now we have this. There are no easy solutions. But it will rebound, it just takes time.

Predictably, Dan blames Obama. Sorry Dan, that is just plain dumb; Much of this was caused by Clinton and his stupid housing policy. It predates Bush and Obama. So, let’s get off the stupid? Okay? 🙄

Journalism is dead says Mike Huckabee

Former Arkansas GOP Gov. Mike Huckabee, currently a Fox News talk show host, ripped the media this weekend, claiming that journalism has been reduced to “ink-stained drivel that smeared the pages of paper and the people who attempted to read it.”

“I’m sad to report today a death of a good friend to all of us…..Journalism,” Huckabee wrote in a post on his political action committee’s blog. “The once esteemed 4th estate of our nation and the protector of our freedoms and a watchdog of our rights has passed away after a long struggle with a crippling and debilitating disease of acute dishonesty aggravated by advanced laziness and the loss of brain function.”

Short stories today, not feeling well

I am not going to be writing essays or long articles today. Here’s why…

I’m distracted.

I have a pain the neck… literally.

For some odd reason; I have a nerve or something on my left side of my body, that travels through my neck area. Every now and again, said nerve gets irritated. I take pain meds and try and take it as easy as I possibly can; and it usually goes away. It is not the laying in the fetal position and crying my eyes out kind of pain….yet. But it is just enough to annoy me and give me a slight headache.

Add to this little fact that I have no health-care insurance at all; so, I cannot just zip off the doctor and have them fix me. Although, I’d rather suffer, than have the Government pay for it. Not like it’s life threatening or dreadfully painful. It is just annoying.

Not something I could consider to be a good writing environment, not to mention a thinking environment.

So, today it would be just a title, a few words and a link to said story.

I will be back in full force hopefully tomorrow or the next day.

Prayers, Good JuJu and whatever else you wanna send my way would be most appreciated.

Two Movies on Liberty

First up is The Most Incredible Challenge from 1965.

Synopsis: This film, narrated by Luis Van Rooten and directed by Robert Braverman, was produced by the Radio Liberty (RL) Committee, the parent organization of Radio Liberty, to publicize RL in the United States. The film features RLs production center in Munich, its news-gathering operations around the world, and its transmitter facilities in Germany, Spain, and Taiwan.

For the Licensed Amateur Radio operators that happen to read this blog; who also happen to be fans of old “Boat Anchors” as they are called, see if you spot the old Rockwell-Collins and other such gear in this piece. The place to see it really good, is at the 18:14 mark. Some really nice gear there from Amateur Radio’s greatest era. 😀

The Second is “This Is Radio Free Europe” from 1964:

Synopsis: This film, narrated by Polish broadcaster Andrzej Kzeczenowicz, gives an overview of Radio Free Europes news-gathering and audience research, its production center in Munich, and its transmission operations in Germany and Portugal. Folks, I simply offer these videos with this question: Were these station employees, the political bloggers of that era? Are we now the voices of liberty? I like to think that we are the newspaper writers; the ones encouraging the dissent and the debate. Is Russia of old, just a future picture of America? Those are the questions that we must ask ourselves come 2010.

Remember my follow Americas, dissent is not, not has it ever been unpatriotic. The socialist left calls us racists, tea-baggers, rich people with attitudes; we know the truth and we will not stand by idly and allow a socialist oligarchy defeat us or the Nation and the principles in which it was founded upon.  We must fight, not with guns or weapons; this is a battle of ideas and information. The Media, except for perhaps Fox News, is basically carrying water for the establishment. We are the new fifth estate or even possibly the sixth Estate; if there was such a thing. Being in this position of the minority; we must get our collective act together. We need to, as Bloggers and Conservatives, try to stay away from the stupid and the petty. We need to distinguish ourselves from the Alex Jones Conspiracy theory crowd and stick to the mainstream news and offer a counter-view to the main stream media’s view.

Prayers Needed

Over at Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler:

My friend LC Azygos’ cousin could use some divine intervention.

She got laid off in January as so many other people, she’s got three kids, and she’s still unable to find a job. Apparently Porkulus didn’t “create or save” her job. Sorry, I just can’t help it sometimes.

Obviously, LC Azygos and the rest of the family have done all they could and continue to do so, but what the lady really needs is a job. So some prayers for her, and all the others who have been put out of a job due to the wonders of Obamanomics, would be very much appreciated.

I know, we’re all hurting right now, but in our hurt we still have that line to G-d. We’ll never lose it. Time to pick up the phone. I know I will.

I can relate, say a prayer for me too. 🙁

Dear Heavenly Father, please help our friend’s cousin find work so she can support her family on her own the way she wants, nay needs to. I do not ask for free presents, nor does she, I only ask that she and so many others like her have the opportunity to earn a living, because in so doing, we learn the joys of sacrificing for something bigger than us.

We do not ask for handouts, but every once in a while we could use a hand up. And, once we have that hand up and are once again able to take care of ourselves and ours, we will, with Your blessings, be able to extend that hand of help to others, sharing Your love, paying it forward, being living testimony to the unconditional, eternal love that is You.

I ask that, humbly, in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ,

A note of thanks

I would like to personally and publicly thank reader Beverly, who lives in New Jersey, for your very nice donation to the blog.

It’s those little donations like this one; that make running this blog a joy. It is also good to know that someone out there enjoys what I serve up here. Not that it is about money, but seeing I am in the position that I am in; No Job, Living with Parents, and no prospects of a job — It makes life a little easier.  I will be the first to tell you, my situation could be much worse than it is now and it would be, if it were not for my parents. However, unlike the socialists, I will not run to the Government for a hand out or a solution to my problems. I will rebuild my life —- on my own. I do not need Barry’s Socialist stupidity to do so.

Also, to those of you on twitter, who follow me, I thank you for “Retweeting” my tweets; you guys are amazing. Here’s some numbers for you. Yesterday alone I had 541 people come look at my posting about the Tea Party Protest up in D.C., today there were 265 views on the tea party story. On that 9/11 story that I posted about, there were 100 people that viewed it yesterday.

I know the question that you are asking yourself. “Well, how much was the donation?” Not that it is anyone’s business; but it was $50.00. (Minus PayPal fees, which were dollar and some change) But, Believe me, I am EXTREMELY grateful to get donation of that, or any size, at all. Especially from people that I do not even know or have never met. Especially seeing that ye ol’ Bank account is, at this moment, at 85 bucks and some change. Of course, that will change when PayPal decides to stop holding my donation hostage, which takes about 3-5 days.

Of course, there are some of you, ahem —  shall we say?  —– Well-to-do Conservatives out there, that look at that Donation amount and chuckle to yourselves and say, “That’s a paltry sum…” Well, let me be the first to tell you; You see that little donation button over there on the right hand side, inner side bar, second from the top? Hit it baby; Hard. I am a “Verified Account”, which in PayPal terms, means that I can receive as much as you want to send! Of course, if some charitable Conservative sends me some huge honking, multi-thousand or ever better Multi-Million Dollar donation, I would have to grab my friend Ryan by the shirt collar and ask him the name of that Company that does the LLC registration service. I would also have to open a separate bank account, if things got really, really big. Then my life would get really complicated really fast! Not to mention the IRS would take a shining to me really quick! (That’s hillbilly for get interested really quick for you Yankee folk….)

But first things first, Again, I am eternally grateful to everyone who has, so far, been supportive of my efforts here. Every time someone retweets my twitter postings, I smile, literally. I mean, I am like a little kid, all pointing and giggling at the fact that someone has retweeting my postings. Which is why I have to close tweetdeck at times; otherwise I would get nothing done! 😉

Okay, enough this Halo-Polishing stuff. Let’s get back to Blogging and criticizing Obama and his socialism! Just a quick note, if you have any sort of a insider tip of anything that is happening in Washington D.C. and want to clue me in, I am always ready for the exclusive! I will just never understand why bloggers, who worked their tails off to become the huge stars that they are; turn right around and do themselves in like that. It just does not make any sense.

How ironic that the Socialists are crying foul about lying; seeing that their own dear leader is quite the liar himself.

Let’s review, shall we?

So, perhaps…. Joe Wilson; was right?

Of course, the bill was changed, after Joe Wilson called the President on it. But still, are not these other lies legit? I think they are.

Exit Question: If a Republican lied like this man has, would not he be held to a higher scrutiny? But because he is a black liberal, he skates for free? Isn’t that the honest truth?

I don’t understand.  You are encouraging a woman who doesn’t want to hear from anyone who she doesn’t agree with regarding the president (“I just want to hear people who is opposing him”).

You’re encouraging this woman to stop learning, to abandon discourse, and be another zombie who just accepts whatever she hears – even if it’s from the side she agrees with.

What kind of dialogue is that?

Thank you Ma’am. I work hard everyday to keep my readers informed and somewhat happy. I try to avoid talking points and bluster. I try to challenge socialism with honesty and integrity. I sometimes get angry. But usually I am level-headed.

Thank you writing.

I meant every word of that. It’s those little e-mails like that; that make every aggravation with running this blog, every stressful thing, that I have had to endure; and believe me there have been quite a few —- worth every minute of my time. When I started over on December 30, 2007 at 4:44 P.M.; I knew that, at the time that I was not happy with the Democratic Party. But at the time, I had zero clue that my politics was going to go as far to the right as it has. I must admit, Obama’s nomination and election helped much of that.

Now I very highly doubt that we will see Obama resign as President; barring something huge dropping and him having to resign to avoid impeachment. But I believe that we Conservative bloggers will be the legitimate catalyst for the loyal opposition. I believe that all of us, not just me; are doing the Lord’s work and we’re fighting for America. Which I will continue to do, as long as I am able to write. We may not all agree 100% on everything. But, we all agree that Obama’s policies are hurting America.

It is not about the money and it sure as heck, is not about the fame. At least not with me. Believe you me, I would like nothing more, than to slip back into anonymity and just do nothing. But how could I? This Nation has been too good to me over the years, to just sit and do nothing. I love my Country and I just cannot sit on the sidelines and watch a socialist President destroy the very foundations of which this country was founded upon.

I may be a small part. But I am a part… and for that, I am very glad. 🙂

Former Leftest turned FBI informant exposes ACORN for what it really is

This is quite the interesting read.

The Money part:

In the following weeks, I was made aware of the fact that ACORN had reopened its New Orleans office (several months after the storm). Various groups from around the city informed me that Acorn was upset with us because we were in “their” community and had not sought approval from ACORN to operate there. I was told that ACORN said that we were “privileged white people who had come to a Black community as saviors and we refused to work with local Black leadership.”

The more I pondered the matter, the more I realized what was happening. As usual in marginalized and impoverished communities, a small group of radical self-proclaimed leaders was insisting that all local aid and relief came through them—even if they were AWOL for several months. Though the majority of residents either hadn’t heard of ACORN or simply disagreed with their politics- ACORN insisted that they were THE Black leaders. This was upsetting to me. Sure, the local pastor we worked most closely with was Black; but that didn’t matter to ACORN. It was as if Pastor Johnson didn’t count because he didn’t evoke the name of Elijah Mohammed or Malcolm X. It was as if Pastor Johnson didn’t count because he didn’t submit to ACORN’s mandate that ACORN was the sole leadership of Black New Orleanians.

As then director of Common Ground Relief’s 9th Ward project, I was warned by many that ACORN would ruin me politically if I didn’t submit to their leadership. I believed in what I was doing and how I was doing it. I refused to submit. The political fallout was almost unbearable. I just kept my eyes on meeting the needs of the community. When confronted by adherents to ACORN’s brand of race analysis, I pointed out that ACORN was not there immediately after the storm, so I could not have sought their leadership even if I had wanted to.

Over the following years, that particular style of political attack was prominent in New Orleans. Anytime that ACORN was displeased, the other party was deemed a racist. If the other party disagreed with the label or with ACORN’s agenda- they were met with “of course you feel that way. You are a racist.” Though it is clearly woefully inaccurate and unethical to use such an accusation as a political attack and as a means of shutting down philosophical debate and discourse, some at ACORN didn’t let that stop them. I refused to submit to it. I believed in listening to the majority of the community, who were desperate for our help, and not only to the self-proclaimed leaders. I paid a dear price for it.

The only objection I have to this video is this. At the part where it says, “New Boss, same as the old boss”; I would have a picture of George W. Bush, and then faded in a Picture of Obama and not Karl Marx. Because whether we want to admit it or not. Obama is just continuing the policies of Bush. The stuff that he promised to change. He has not. He is doing the same stuff.

Anyhow, it was a great protest. Even if I did sleep through most of it. 😳 😀
