Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) has taped an advertisement apologizing for her televised comments calling Barack Obama anti-American, according to a Republican source familiar with her campaignâs decision.
Bachmann campaign spokeswoman Michelle Marston said the campaign will be airing a new advertisement this afternoon, but declined to comment specifically on whether Bachmann would be apologizing in the spot.
âYouâll just have to wait and see,â Marston said.
You should have thought of that, like last week, right after you said it, moron. It’s too damn late, because your democrat challenger has raised enough money to buy the damned election.
What an idiot! đ
(fixed typos and misspellings… what I get for rushing to get content out! Ooops!)
In fairness, I am writing this posting. It seems now that there are some serious questions being raised about this young lady’s story. I realize that my inital reaction to this, was a bit more, well; reactionary.
It seems now that the police are going to get a polygraph and speak with her again. I know Malkin‘s nose was twitching about this right off the bat. I simply had the reaction of what normal, red blooded, America, White, Males should have, when they see a woman being victimized. In short, I flipped my shit…. I’m allowed, I’m a guy. đ đ
In all seriousness, if the woman was lying, throw the book at her. If she’s not, then the police should get to looking for the idiot that committed this crime, and find him fast and throw the book at him.
Either way, I’m sure justice will be served, one way or another.
You idiot liberals happy now that I issued this? Morons. đ
Update: Looks like Malkin was right…. This comes via KDKA-TV:
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ? Police sources tell KDKA that a campaign worker has now confessed to making up a story that a mugger attacked her and cut the letter “B” in her face after seeing her McCain bumper sticker.
Ashley Todd, 20, of Texas, initially told police that she was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield and that the suspect became enraged and started beating her after seeing her GOP sticker on her car.
Police investigating the alleged attack, however, began to notice some inconsistencies in her story and administered a polygraph test.
Authorities, however, declined to release the results of that test.
Investigators did say that they received photos from the ATM machine and “the photographs were verified as not being the victim making the transaction.”
This afternoon, a Pittsburgh police commander told KDKA Investigator Marty Griffin that Todd confessed to making up the story.
The commander added that Todd will face charges; but police have not commented on what those charges will be.
According to police, investigators working on the interview process detected several inconsistencies in Todd’s story that differed from statements made in the original police report.
Pittsburgh Police Public Information Officer Diane Richard released a statement earlier today, saying: “Because of the inconsistencies in her statements, Ms. Todd was asked to submit to a polygraph examination which she agreed to do.”
No photos of Todd are being released by Pittsburgh Police at this time.
The investigation is continuing as officials determine what charges will be filed.
Throw the book at her. The bitch. Use us bloggers like that to garner sympthy for the hoe. Fucking lock her in the jail and throw away the damn key. đĄ
Update 3: It’s now being reported that she etched the “B” herself. What an asshole. Memeornadum has the blogger reaction from both sides of the aisle. Needless to say, there are many people who are pissed about this, on both sides of the political spectrum, and rightly so.
Update 4: College Republicans Have Released a statement: (via HotAir)
âWhen Ms. Todd initially contacted us claiming to have been attacked our first reaction was obviously to be concerned for her safety. We are as upset as anyone to learn of her deceit, Ashley must take full responsibility for her actions.â – Ashley Barbera, Communications Director
âWe have terminated her effective today. Obviously, we had no idea she was making this story up.â – Ethan Eilon
Good on them for doing this. In the end, this is only to hurt McCain’s campaign and the Republicans image. I have to give the ol’ gal credit, Michelle Malkin, was, in fact, right all along.
A McCain-Palin campaign volunteer who claimed she was robbed and cut by a supporter of Sen. Barack Obama has confessed to making up the story, Pittsburgh police Assistant Chief Maurita Bryant said this afternoon.
Ashley Todd, 20, of College Station, Texas, is charged with filing a false police report. She told investigators she has had psychological issues in the past and Bryant said detectives are working with the Allegheny County District Attorney’s office to determine whether Todd should be released on the misdemeanor charge or taken to a hospital for evaluation.
“She just opened up and said she wanted to tell the truth,” Bryant said. “She was upset with the media for blowing this into a political firestorm.“
HUH??? Let me get this straight, we’re in the middle of the most historic election ever, and this bitch pulls a stunt like this and she’s pissed off, because people dare to speak of the political ramifications? Oy! and they call me a screwball?!?!? Ha! đ
Todd, of College Station, Texas, admitted there was no robbery or attacker and said she had prior mental health problems, according to Bryant.
It’s not yet clear whether Todd’s face was mutilated by her, or if she had somebody else do it, because a police report states that she told them she can’t remember
FRANKLIN, Ind. (AP) â A Republican county election clerk distributed copies of an apparent chain letter referring to Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama as a âyoung, black Adolf Hitlerâ to two employees but later told police she intended it to be a joke.
The employees, who had voted for Obama in Indianaâs Democratic primary, discovered the letters at their desks after returning from Labor Day weekend, Deputy Sheriff Doug Cox said in a police report made public this week. One of the workers complained, and surveillance video showed Johnson County Clerk Jill Jackson placing an item one workerâs desk at 5:27 p.m. on the Friday of Labor Day weekend, Cox said.
âShe admitted to being responsible for the letter, but only did it as a joke,â Cox said. Jackson told police she had intended to speak with the workers upon returning to work but forgot.
I can see private citizens, but election officials? This woman ought to be fired.
It gets a wee bit racist too:
The letter does not mention Obama by name but makes references to his ties to a Chicago church whose pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, adheres to black liberation theology. It is heavy with racial references, criticizing the candidateâs parentage with such comments as, âHe is proud of his âAfrican heritageâ (a father who got a white girl pregnant and deserted her)â and asking, âWhere is the pride in his âWhite heritage?ââ
The unsigned letter urges readers to send it to everyone they know.
Not smart, not smart at all. đ
Of course:
Indiana this year is considered a battleground state, and Obama campaigned there Thursday, drawing an estimated 35,000 people to a rally in downtown Indianapolis.
Johnson County is heavily Republican, with nearly three-quarters of the votes cast in the 2004 presidential election going to President Bush.
Just showing them true colors, as always. This is why I am not in that party.
I was chatting with Greg from Rhymes with Right. I guess he took on some serious water down there in Texas during hurricane Ike. Of course, our wonderful Government which olâ âBarryâ wants to expand, is dragging their feet with his claim.
If you all can spare a little, head on over and click on his paypal box and send a little to him. He could really use the help, cause every little extra helps.

The home of a Central Florida Republican headquarters manager was shot up and damaged over his support of Sen. John McCain, the man told police.
Rog Coverely said several pellets pierced his Longwood home. Coverely showed several spiderwebbed-holes in the front windows of his home.
The Republican manager said he is convinced he was targeted because of new McCain signs he added around his home.
“All I can tell you is this, I have a very good relationship with my neighbors,” Coverely said. “I mow my lawn. The only thing that has changed is I have two McCain signs in my front yard.”
Coverely said he has taken about 300 calls concerning stolen or vandalized McCain signs in the area.
“It says this campaign is getting vicious,” Coverely said.
Coverely said it appears Democrats are becoming more aggressive in the county.
“I wouldn’t say slipping, but I would say the Democrats have become far more aggressive in Seminole County because it is such a heavy Republican area,” Coverely said.
Meanwhile, McCain was in Florida on Thursday.
The Republican presidential nominee spoke at Allstar Building Materials in Ormond Beach. Later he’ll be in Sarasota for a “Joe the Plumber” bus tour rally at Robarts Arena.
Video:
I mean, I do not know about you. But I am more worried that if Barack Obama will be elected there might just be an outbreak of lawlessness. Even more so, if McCain wins. This is why I do not put Signs up at my house here.
Sorry gang, got a late start today. Slept till noon. I needed to catch up. Didnât get much sleep the last few days. Because Dad was in the hospital. So, Iâm a little sluggish today.
—–
The big story today is that the RNC spent $150K on wardrobe and make up on Sarah Palin and some within the Republican Party are not happy about it.
My Take: At this point, I do not think that this will all matter at all. Considering how John McCain is doing in the polls. I believe that this is a distraction generated by the Liberal media to cover up for the huge gaffes made by Joe Biden.
Further more, I believe it is a distraction to focus away from the real facts about Barack Obama. In fact Ed over at Hotair.com and a few of his friends, have made up a very good case against Barack Obama. I suggest that you read it before voting.
Matt Drudge is still doing his loyal best to boost the chances of the GOP down the homestretch in the form of a blizzard of anti-Obama and pro-McCain links on his site. (Last week, it was the half-baked McCain “comeback” that Drudge hyped relentlessly.)
And there’s no question that Drudge’s Web traffic remains strong and continues to grow, thanks to a burgeoning international audience. But in terms of setting the ground rules — in terms of setting the campaign agenda — Drudge has been AWOL since mid-September when the credit crisis erupted.
His current spectator status mirrors that of the low-flying right-wing bloggers. Just as the bloggers were hailed for their (pseudo) detective work in undermining CBS’ Dan Rather in 2004, Drudge was credited for the way he used his widely read platform to push the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth story into the mainstream press, which helped derail John Kerry’s campaign.
Four years ago, Drudge and the right-wing bloggers were at the peak of their political power. Today, they’re pretty much watching the election pass them by, reduced to the role of frustrated sideline hecklers.
Oh really? I have news for that idiot, we Conservative Bloggers are still here, weâre still powerful and weâre not going any damned where. Enjoy the ride Moonbats, because that Magic Negro personal âMessiahâ of yours has got to screw up sometime or another.
I mean, I just cannot wait till he is elected into office and then begins to break every damned last campaign promise that he has made in the past. That will be the best Blog fodder ever. I just cannot wait for the frustrated Blog postings of âHe Betrayed us!!!!â
It will make for some awesome hilarity, that is for sure.
For the record, I think what Obama is doing, is totally awesome.
Considering what is going on with my Dad right now, I have to agree with this guy here.
Anyone who would knowingly insult a manâs dying grandmother and the man whoâs showing the compassion to go and see her, especially at end stretch of the presidential campaign, well, that person ought to be shot.
Can you see now, why I am not a Republican? Not to mention John McCainâs insulting comments, during a time like this, I can only believe that is going to hurt him in the polls.
Iâve made my share of mistakes during my tenure of being a Blogger, I admit that. But to knowingly insult someone like that. It simply shows your colors man. Iâm sorry, I cannot agree with that.
Someone slashed the tires of at least 30 vehicles parked outside the Crown Coliseum on Sunday during a rally for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, authorities said.
Sheriffâs deputies are investigating. The tires were cut while people were inside the Crown Coliseum listening to speeches, said Maj. E. Wright of the Cumberland County Sheriffâs Office.
Many of the damaged vehicles were parked on Wilkes Road. Representatives from Obama and Sen. John McCainâs campaigns said they were unaware of the acts.
Susan Lagana, the North Carolina communications director for Obama, said it was extremely disappointing and unfortunate that âpeople would have to experience something like that.â
Mario Diaz, communications director for McCain, did not respond to a call late Sunday.
Sarah Revis, who lives on Wilkes Road, said the slashed tires left several women, including a single mother and a toddler, stranded and upset. At least four tow trucks were sent to move the vehicles from the Crown, Revis said.
âThis is an embarrassment to this city and to me as a citizen,â Revis said. âIâve seen women out here crying and men cussing. This is a crying shame.â
Lynne Steenstra said she thought that the slashings were scare tactics designed to keep her and others from supporting Obama.
Even though it cost her roughly $120 to get her Dodge Caravan towed and fixed, Steenstra said the act would not intimidate her from voting.
âIt hasnât deterred us one bit,â Steenstra said. âIt has only encouraged us more. I just hope whoever did this pays the price.â
Yes, I do believe that this is wrong, damned wrong. Not only is it destruction of personal property, it could very well be voter intimidation. We live in the United States of America, not Russia. We are supposed to be able to vote for whomever we wish, this sort of thing, whether it is being done by Liberals OR Conservatives is wrong and should be dealt with as harshly as the law allows.
The sobering truth is that there is hate on both sides of the Political fence, and folks, Iâm just going to say it, itâs damn wrong and it needs to stop.
I am sad to report that we will most likely see more of this as November 4âth approaches, I hope that McCain and Obama do the right thing and condemn these actions. While politics is a contact sport and this election is an important one. This sort of petty nonsense is totally uncalled for.
We are Americans my friends, letâs not forget this. Vandalism is not the way to solve our nations problems or to settle this election.
Speaking to a college audience in Boston, Mass. Friday, "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart used his stand-up routine to respond to Sarah Palin’s comments about "pro-America" parts of the country, shedding the profanity restrictions that govern his Comedy Central show.
"She said that small towns, that’s the part of the country she really likes going to because that’s the pro-America part of the country. You know, I just want to say to her, just very quickly: [expletive] you," Stewart said to raucous applause.
Palin addressed a North Carolina fund-raiser Thursday night saying, "We believe that the best of America is not all in Washington, D.C. We believe…that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, very pro-America areas of this great nation.
I can understand him not liking Sarah Palin, that is a given, he is a Liberal. But is all the nastiness needed? I know, It’s comedy, that’s not lost on me. But why is it that it’s the only the Liberals laughing?
I think that this is a sign of what’s to come, if Obama Wins.
“Secretary Powell says his endorsement is not about race,” Limbaugh wrote in an e-mail. “OK, fine. I am now researching his past endorsements to see if I can find all the inexperienced, very liberal, white candidates he has endorsed. I’ll let you know what I come up with.”
As for Powell’s statement of concern this morning about the sort of Supreme Court justices a President McCain might appoint, Limbaugh wrote: “I was also unaware of his dislike for John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Anthony Kennedy and Antonin Scalia. I guess he also regrets Reagan and Bush making him a four-star [general] and secretary of state andappointing his son to head the FCC. Yes, let’s hear it for transformational figures.”
So Colin Powell has endorsed Obama. Let’s see, Powell is pro-abortion. So is Obama. Powell is pro-affirmative action. So is Obama. Powell has stated repeatedly that tax policy should ensure fairness. Obama likewise wants to “spread the wealth.” The endorsement of Obama only demonstrates what unpaid prognosticators could have told those million dollar a year experts years ago. Powell never was a Republican. He has been aligned with the Democrats from the day of his retirement from service.
On today’s talk show, Powell explains: “I think he is a transformational figure.” THAT’S what I’m afraid of. Hitler, Stalin, and Pol Pot were all transformational too, Colin.
Another note to moderate Republicans: Hey guys, are you happy with your fellow moderate? No? You should be–this is what you moderates do. They pretend in order to achieve status, and then attack the hand that feeds them–to maintain that status. Yes, you keep telling us that Palin’s conservatism is what is sinking McCain. Really? Do you think that McCain picking another moderate would have changed Powell’s position? If you do, I’ve got a nice bridge to sell you.
Affirmative action is now at its zenith here. A unqualified candidate for president who has never run anything; who has never governed anything; and who has policies precisely on line with Karl Marx–is going to be put into our highest office solely due to his race. Doubt me? Just ask if Obama would be where he is at if he were a white man. The answer is inevitable.
The Republican party must clean house or it is lost.
My goodness, the Republicans are not even trying to hide it anymore. It has went from nuance and inferring to outright blantant racism. The part I put into red is what really disturbs me. The Republicans and Conservatives are now officially channeling McCarthy. The whole Idea is, if you cannot beat him, you slander him with racism and attempt to paint him, as some sort of communist. It is the oldest trick in the book.
The the guy from Redstate tries to claim that Moderates are ruining his party. What a damn joke. It’s the moderates that have kept the Republican Party from becoming the next Whig Party! Which is right where it is heading now. Some would say and good for it too. Myself, I think it is a sad place that the Republican Party is headed. Change is needed within that party, but not this sort of a change at all.
Originally, I was going to word this article much differently. But I scrapped it. This is my take on Colin Powellâs endorsement of Obama.
At first blush, someone like me would think, âWell, he is endorsing him because he is black.â But I personally believe that it goes much deeper than that. As Colin Powell said in this video, the G.O.P. and John McCainâs campaign took a stance in this election that to even me, was disturbing. McCain and the G.O.P. basically decided to paint Obama as a terrorist by proxy.
I have written in the past on this Blog, that I have been totally disgusted at the way that McCain and the Republican Party have been handling this election and how they have painted Obama. Now, before anyone calls me a hypocrite, let me explain, I totally understand that there has been race baiting on the left. But there has also been calls to incite violence on the right as well. This has been fueled by the inferring of the McCain campaign that Obama is a Black Terrorist by proxy. This was a fatal strategy and it could possibly cause McCain to lose hard in the election. To his credit, McCain did switch gears as of recent and began harping on Obamaâs statement of âSpread the Wealthâ. Which lead to the liberal take down of âJoe the Plumberâ.
However, it is this writers opinion, that it is, quite sadly; too little, too late. The damage is done, independents view McCain and Palin as white racists, who are out to smear and discredit a Christian black man, who is running for President. Not to mention that Economy is just not on the side of the Republicans.
Not to mention how the current President ruined it for the Republicans. His out of control spending, the war in Iraq; which is turning around for the good, much to the chagrin of the Liberals. The attorney general scandal, the spying scandal, it just goes on and on. The fact is that this election is not on the side of the Republicans. It is, as I have written many times before, the Reagan Revolution in reverse.
Which beings me to another point I feel the need to make. The Republican Party and the Conservative Movement has to realize something and it is a realization that is quite a painful one for some to swallow. The Reagan Revolution and era in politics is over. We are living in much different times, than we were in 1980. The problem is, most Conservatives still believe that it is 1980! They need to update their message, make it more relevant for this day and age.
To sum this up, I will basically say this, the endorsement of Barack Obama, by a well-known Black Republican should send a message to the Conservative community that you cannot finger a black man, who is running for President of the United States as a terrorist by proxy, because of his middle name, because of his skin color and because of people he has had past relations with. It just does not work. My only hope is, that the Republican Party and the Conservative Movement as a whole is listening to that message.
Update: My favorite quote from this interview was this:
And it is permitted to be said such things as, "Well, you know that Mr. Obama is a Muslim." Well, the correct answer is, he is not a Muslim, he’s a Christian. He’s always been a Christian. But the really right answer is, what if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer’s no, that’s not America. Is there something wrong with some seven-year-old Muslim-American kid believing that he or she could be president?
…
I feel strongly about this particular point because of a picture I saw in a magazine. It was a photo essay about troops who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. And one picture at the tail end of this photo essay was of a mother in Arlington Cemetery, and she had her head on the headstone of her son’s grave. And as the picture focused in, you could see the writing on the headstone. And it gave his awards–Purple Heart, Bronze Star–showed that he died in Iraq, gave his date of birth, date of death. He was 20 years old. And then, at the very top of the headstone, it didn’t have a Christian cross, it didn’t have the Star of David, it had crescent and a star of the Islamic faith. And his name was Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, and he was an American. He was born in New Jersey. He was 14 years old at the time of 9/11, and he waited until he can go serve his country, and he gave his life.
The Photo that Colin Powell is referring to is this: (H/T The New Republic)
My friends, this photo says it all. We are all Americans. No matter what Rush Limbaugh or anyone else from the Republican Party might say. While I may have a disdain for those extremist Muslims, who want to destroy this nation, it is these type of Muslims like Kareem Rashad Sultan that give me hope, that the Extremism in the Muslim Religion can be destroyed once and for all.
I really must wonder, can Michelle Bachman look this woman in the eye and say that she is Un-American?
As a rule, I am not a overly judgemental person. But something here stinks to the high heavens about this.
The leftist organzation, The People for the American Way’s website Right Wing Watch has posted two supposed voicemail threats leveled towards ACORN on thier website.
Here is what these voicemails said:
âHi, I was just calling to let you all know that Barack Obama needs to get hung. He’s a fucking nigger, and he’s a piece of shit. You guys are fraudulent, and you need to go to hell. All the niggers on oak trees. They’re gonna get all hung honeys, they’re gonna get assassinated, they’re gonna get killed.â
and
“You liberal idiots. Dumb shits. Welfare bums. You guys just fucking come to our country, consume every natural resource there is, and make a lot of babies. That’s all you guys do. And then suck up the welfare and expect everyone else to pay for your hospital bills for your kids. I just say let your kids die. That’s the best move. Just let your children die. Forget about paying for hospital bills for them. I’m not gonna do it. You guys are lowlifes. And I hope you all die.“
Yes, these are disgusting, terrible and so forth.
But….
Are they even real? Listening to these voice mails makes me very suspicious. For one, the woman’s voice on the first message sounds like she is a Canadian. It also sounds like she’s reading a script. The second one also sounds like he is reading a script as well. There is truly a lack of emotion in both of these persons voices, the woman, in fact sounds like she is about to crack up laughing at what she is reading.
I do not claim to be an expert at this sort of a thing at all. But something looks and in this case, sounds very suspicious. After all, If you are a regular reader of this Blog. You already know that the left is very good at race baiting and outright hypocrisy.
I could be wrong, but something here stinks to the high heavens and the FBI should investigate if these recordings were faked or not.
Yes, I saw Sarah Palin’s little opening skit on SNL tonight.
I thought she did quite well, and Yes, I thought it to be quite funny.
However, there seems to be some who disagree.
John over at the newly redesigned Powerline Blog didn’t like the idea of her even being there:
It’s a mistake, I’m afraid. It’s not that I lack confidence in Governor Palin; I don’t. But I think it’s almost always a mistake to visit an enemy’s home turf without a clear understanding that you are among enemies.
The Saturday Night Live people are Democrats. That’s all there is to it, and they will never give Sarah Palin, or any other Republican, a fair shake. Palin is, of course, more than a match for them in a fair fight. But for a fight to be fair, it must first be acknowledged that it’s a fight. That won’t happen tonight, and it will be almost a miracle if Palin gains from the exposure.
I’m old enough to remember when President Gerald Ford appeared on Saturday Night Live. That night, he was ridiculed as a klutz, in keeping with the image he had among liberals. It was grotesquely unfair: Ford, an all-America football player at Michigan, was undoubtedly the most athletic President of modern times. But reality won’t intrude when your enemy is the editor.
News accounts indicated that the next morning, a shell-shocked Ford summoned his aides and asked who it was who thought it would be a good idea for him to appear on the television show that had been ridiculing him non-stop since he became President. I’m afraid a similar fate awaits Governor Palin.
I must be odd, I don’t consider those in comedy to be the enemy. I do not buy into that whole idea of “Those who disagree with me politically are my enemy” mentality. It causes one to become isolated. Maybe I am naive or just a bit more open minded.
Ed Driscoll, who I think has the coolest Blog design, chimes in:
It wasn’t Ford appearing on Saturday Night Live that was the real problem–it was Ron Nessen, Ford’s press secretary, who hosted the show. And as I noted shortly after President Ford passed away in 2006, in a very long post quoting from a history of SNL, as one of the writers said out of Nessen’s earshot when he agreed to the gig, “The President’s watching. Let’s make him cringe and squirm.”
As John notes, it’s guaranteed that similar thoughts were expressed this week as well.
Interesting historic take on that appearance. Let me be very straight with you all. If John McCain loses this election, I seriously highly doubt that it will have been because of Sarah Palin’s appearance on SNL. It might be because of many other factors, but this will not be one of them.
I will be the first to admit that I’m not much of a SNL watcher, as a rule, but when stuff like this happens, I do tune in. SNL’s comedy is not my bag. I’m more a three stooges or laurel and Hardy type myself. đ
Just my take on it.
Update: The video is now up over at Huffpo, I tried to snatch the code, wouldn’t work here. Epic Fail. đ
I write this article neither as a Liberal nor as a Conservative. I write this article as an American. I write this as a Caucasian American who holds to a set of Moderate to Right-Libertarian political views. I write this as someone who is quote worried about the direction our Nation is taking. I write this as someone who is heartsick over the deep divisions in the world of politics.
For the first time, since I have been Blogging, I feel the need to speak out against those who hold similar political views as mine. I am referring to the comments that were made by Rep. Michelle Bachmann. Rep. Michelle Bachmann on an appearance on MSNBCâs Hardball said that there were persons in the United States Congress, who held to Anti-American views. She also said that these people should be investigated.
Before I get into why I disapprove of this, let me make some things clear. Contrary to popular belief, my Politics is not as far right as some. In fact, I tend to lean towards the center of some issues. I am a moderate on many issues. Although, when it comes to our Military, My disdain of the Islam Religion, Our Nations Constitution, and a few other things, I am much to the right of some. However, on other issues, I tend to be more of a Libertarian. For example, I do not believe that it is the Governments right to tell a woman what to do with her body.
Now personally on a personal level, I object to Abortion on grounds that it is murder, this is because I am a Christian and I believe that life begins at conception. Nevertheless, on a Political Level, I believe that the United States Government does not have the right to dictate to woman what she can and cannot do with body. Furthermore, I do not believe that the State Government should dictate to a woman what she can and cannot do to her own body.
This is because I believe in personal freedom. I also reject the Conservative Christian idea of turning America into a Theocracy. I also believe in a full wall of separation of Church and State. However, just as well, I believe the woman should be given all the alternatives to terminating a pregnancy, however, if she decides to do so, that is between her and God. Let God be the judge of that woman. I reject the browbeating that the far right gives to those who decide to perform such an action. That sort of abject nonsense goes against the very core freedoms in our Constitution. Those that cannot separate between the political and spiritual realms should not involve themselves in politics at all.
Now do my personal political views of mine make me Anti-American? I think the sane and logical answer to that would be no. Now in the interest of full disclosure, I have little or no use for the far left. I will spare you the reasons for that. I will simply say that I did not leave the Democrat Party, it left me, long ago, especially during this election cycle. However, for me to sit here and write that Democrats were Anti-Americans would be a lesson in abject foolishness. Frankly, Rep. Michelle Bachmannâs comments yesterday did nothing to raise the level of political discourse in this country whatsoever. Rep. Michelle Bachmann was essentially doing a poor imitation of Ann Coulter or at worst channeling Joseph McCarthy. I am fully aware that it was written recently that Joseph McCarthy was correct on some matters; it, in fact, was the destructive behavior of Senator McCarthy that ruined his career.
It is this writerâs opinion that channeling Senator Joseph McCarthy in this desperate hour would be a total and unequivocal disaster to the Republican Partyâs cause. It is not lost upon me that the political landscape of the Democratic Party has changed a great deal in the last eight years, Mrs. Katrina Vanden Heuvel âs response to the remarks being a perfect example of this. However, the channeling of McCarthyism will do nothing to further the Conservative cause. In fact, it will alienate more than it will help.

My take on âJoe the Plumberâ is this; Joe is a snapshot, a representative; if you will, of the typical working class person and small business owner in this country. He works for a company and is thinking about buying the company from the current owner. Iâve seen that many times in my day.
This whole narrative of $250.000 a year being the top 2% or whatever they call it; is nothing more than an idiotic talking point by the left. There are many skilled tradesman that make $250.000 a year, some more, depending on the trade. The idea that Barack Obama wants to tax that upper part of society to pay for the Countryâs socialist programs is nothing more than outright class warfare. Which is why that, even I; someone who does NOT have health insurance, someone do does not have a job and has not held once since 2005; will not be voting for Barack Obama; not because he is black, but because he is a socialist Liberal who advocates and will continue to advocate class warfare. His whole âTax the rich to feed the poorâ just does not fly with me.
So, while his little remark about âTap Dancingâ might be a bit off color, I totally agree with his assessment of Barack Obama. The only thing I disagree with, is the fact that Joe seems to believe that John McCain is the answer. I just cannot agree with that, at all.
Now this is funny. Hereâs an e-mail that Ben Smith received from a Republican Consultant working a Mid-western state focus group.
Itâs a good thing I was not drinking anything, else I would have been asking Ben Smith for a replacement laptop.
Quote:
Reagan Dems and Independents. Call them blue-collar plus. Slightly more Target than Walmart.
Yes, the spot worked. Yes, they believed the charges against Obama. Yes, they actually think he’s too liberal, consorts with bad people and WON’T BE A GOOD PRESIDENT…but they STILL don’t give a f***. They said right out, “He won’t do anything better than McCain” but they’re STILL voting for Obama.
The two most unreal moments of my professional life of watching focus groups:
54 year-old white male, voted Kerry ’04, Bush ’00, Dole ’96, hunter, NASCAR fan…hard for Obama said: “I’m gonna hate him the minute I vote for him. He’s gonna be a bad president. But I won’t ever vote for another god-damn Republican. I want the government to take over all of Wall Street and bankers and the car companies and Wal-Mart run this county like we used to when Reagan was President.”
The next was a woman, late 50s, Democrat but strongly pro-life. Loved B. and H. Clinton, loved Bush in 2000. “Well, I don’t know much about this terrorist group Barack used to be in with that Weather guy but I’m sick of paying for health insurance at work and that’s why I’m supporting Barack.”
I felt like I was taking crazy pills. I sat on the other side of the glass and realized…this really is the Apocalypse. The Seventh Seal is broken and its time for eight years of pure, delicious crazy..
*Snort* Thatâs just too funny. Iâm sorry. I canât help it. Itâs too funny.
*wiping eyes* Oh manâŚ. *cough* I guess the the only thing I can say is, Reap what you sow.
First off about the Polls. Itâs obvious, the economy is literally driving McCainâs campaign into the ditch. The attack ads obviously did not help, but more than anything, it is the economy, the Republican Party is just on the bad side of things. Thereâs no way around that or no way of spinning it at all. When the economy tanks the American people look to the opposing party to bring change. Which is what happened in 1980 with Reagan and after the stock market crash and subsequent depression in 1929, with FDR. This time the Republican Party is the Political Party that is one on the wrong side of the situation.
While I might not agree with some of Obamaâs positions, I think sometimes, that Obama might just bring some jobs back to this area. I know that I could benefit from that. Obviously, Bob Barr is not going to be elected, even I understand that. While I am not going to come out as a flag waving Obama-bot. I will be the first to concede that change is needed in America and at the moment, Obama represents that. I donât think the change will come at the speed that many are believing, but it will come, sooner or later.
As for the McCain attack ads and how it is affecting him in the polls; the issue is not what the ads said, it was how they were framed and presented to the American people. The entire problem was that John McCain was saying âBill Ayers, Bill Ayers, Bill Ayersâ and Black America and some the more uneducated on the far right, that believe everything that crosses their mailbox were hearing âHeâs a black terrorist! Heâs a black terrorist! Heâs a black terrorist!â Needless to say this has not helped John McCainâs campaign at all. Not only that, but the picking of Sarah Palin was, as far as this writer is concerned, a tragic mistake. I say this because what McCain was trying to do, was appeal to his base. The problem is, you cannot win an election by appealing just to your base. But rather appealing to the Independent Voters or what are called âThe swing voters.â They decide the election in the end, not the base of either party.
Obama on the other hand has appealed to Democrats and Independents as well, and also Conservatives as well; Chris Buckley is a prime example. I mean, Chris Buckley?!?! The son of the infamous staunch Conservative icon, William F. Buckley? Obviously, something is wrong with McCainâs campaign for Buckley to give McCain the cold shoulder. John McCainâs own brother blasted McCainâs campaign for not handling him properly.
Obama on the other hand has handled a very steady campaign, at times, in this writers opinion, playing certain âCardsâ to their advantage, as they did with Hillary; much to the same effect as McCainâs campaign. This is just called good politics and good campaigning, and most shockingly it has worked.
So, the bottom line is this; John McCain while he might be great person of courage and valor, his campaign has been the Republican equivalent of Hillary Clintonâs campaign. To beat someone like Obama, you must be good, damned good, and sorry to say, but McCain just is not that; Good.
Believe it or not. I totally understand why he endorsed Obama.
I while back here, I wrote that I felt that Obama would not bring anymore expansion to the Government, because it was already very large. It seems that Chris Buckley gets that and believe it or not, I believe that is a good thing.
My point, simply, is that William F. Buckley held to rigorous standards, and if those were met by members of the other side rather than by his own camp, he said as much. My father was also unpredictable, which tends to keep things fresh and lively and on-their-feet. He came out for legalization of drugs once he decided that the war on drugs was largely counterproductive. Hardly a conservative position. Finally, and hardly least, he was fun. God, he was fun. He liked to mix it up.
So, I have been effectively fatwahed (is that how you spell it?) by the conservative movement, and the magazine that my father founded must now distance itself from me. But then, conservatives have always had a bit of trouble with the concept of diversity. The GOP likes to say itâs a big-tent. Looks more like a yurt to me.
While I regret this development, I am not in mourning, for I no longer have any clear idea what, exactly, the modern conservative movement stands for. Eight years of âconservativeâ government has brought us a doubled national debt, ruinous expansion of entitlement programs, bridges to nowhere, poster boy Jack Abramoff and an ill-premised, ill-waged war conducted by politicians of breathtaking arrogance. As a sideshow, it brought us a truly obscene attempt at federal intervention in the Terry Schiavo case.
So, to paraphrase a real conservative, Ronald Reagan: I havenât left the Republican Party. It left me.
Thanks, anyway, for the memories, and hereâs to happier days and with any luck, a bit less fresh hell.
The reason why I say that it is a good thing is because of this; it is becoming more and more obvious to more and more Conservatives, inside and outside of the realm of the G.O.P. that the Grand Old Party has a horrid image problem to Liberals and Conservatives alike. The party basically elected someone based upon pedigree, rather than based upon actual merits.
That person went on to allow his administration to trample on the Constitution, and do all of the things that Chris listed above, plus quite a few that he did not, or was not willing to mention. I would list them all, but this Blog entry would be 50 pages long.
So, while I might not agree on his actual assessment of Obama, simply because he is an advocate of the expansion of that big Government that Conservatives and Libertarians, like me, simply do not agree with, nor believe in. I do believe that someone, like Chris, finally speaking up and saying, âThis Party is not the party of my Fatherâ, is a rather awesome step in the right direction. That very feeling is the same feeling that caused David Nolan on December 11, 1971 to form what is now called the Libertarian Party.
It is my hope and yes, possibly even a prayer; that more people within the party will wake up from the stupor that is known as Bushâism or more accurately Neo-Conservatism. This will be about the only way that the Republican Party can mop up the mess and move on to another era in Conservatism. They must, as collective whole organization; say, without any hesitation or discord, âNever Again.â
âAnd, according to the New York Times, he [referring to Ayers — P] was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, âlaunched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and our U.S. Capitol,ââ [Palin] continued.
âBoooo!â the crowd repeated.
âKill him!â proposed one man in the audience.
That is unambiguously a call to kill Ayers, not Obama. As TNR writer Michael Crowley said in a comment to this post of his (h/t L.N. Smithee):
I took âkill himâ to mean Ayersânot Obama. Itâs just a far, far likelier explanation given the context. Thatâs still an ugly thing to shoutâbut on the other hand Ayers probably would have gotten the death penalty had his bombs actually taken a life. If I thought people were actually yelling that about Obama I would feel very differently.
Indeed. [UPDATE: Dana Milbank, who originally reported this, agreed. According to a Politico blog entry: “Milbank said that his impression was that the man meant Ayers, not Obama.” Thanks to “no one you know.”]
So, when the left claims that people are yelling at Palin rallies to kill Obama. You can safely know that it is nothing more than a well manufactured lie. A lie manufactured by a Media that is in the tank for Obama.
Surprising? No. Shocking, Not hardly. Thanks for the Karl Rove and his group of Neo-Conservative idiots, we are going have Liberalism shoved down our throats for the next 4 to 8 years. If weâre not destroyed by a terrorist attack before then.
