You’ve got to hand it to the folks at Newsweek. They have accomplished being biased and sexist at the same time. Quite a feat. This cover has got to be a new low right? They don’t use a photo of Palin on the campaign trail. No instead they take the sexy Runners World photo. Yes she posed for it but don’t tell me they didn’t purposely use that photo to make a point? I predict this cover will become a bigger story over the next 24-48 hours and let’s face it. This isn’t JUST about media bias. This cover should be insulting to women politicians. Where’s the sexy photo of Mitt Romney? Why not a picture of Tim Pawlenty with an unbuttoned shirt relaxing on a couch in the Twin Cities?
You mean to tell me that David is just now figuring all this out? Dang. I have always known that most of the time, that Christians were always behind the curve on modern issues; but man, I never though they were this behind.
Welcome to the real world Mr. Brody. Now, grab a sword and fight!
I believe that liberals are wrong about black people. Liberals are also wrong about white people, brown people, yellow people and red people. If NASA announced tomorrow that it had discovered a distant planet inhabited by purple people, anything that liberals believed about purple people would be wrong, too. Liberals are not only wrong about race, but they are also wrong about economics, crime, poverty, religion, science, war, marriage and foreign policy. In fact, as evidenced by their global-warming hysteria, liberals are wrong about the weather. Insofar as there is a “liberal consensus” on any particular subject — including movies and sports — then the truth is likely to be the exact opposite of whatever liberals say.
Hey Ana, Get Keith Olbermann's Jizz off your face! What a JOKE!
I cannot claim to have completely read “Going Rogue” — I had to skim the last 150 pages (or more than one-third). I only got the thing into my hands late Monday afternoon with a deadline of early evening. It’s terrible, I know, but if I didn’t read it all, neither can Sarah Palin claim to have completely written it.
One of the few surprises of the book: For a frontierswoman, Palin really doesn’t like smokers — especially if they’re men working for John McCain. She describes the “jaded” “professional political caste” of the McCain campaign as “tumbling out of the bus in a pack, lighting cigarettes as they went so it looked like a walking cloud of smoke with legs,” and, later, she gets a nasty jab in at senior adviser Steve Schmidt, who, she says, “used nicotine to keep . . . his cognitive connections humming along.”
Her critique of the campaign’s strategy is about as sophisticated as her discussion of policy, and just as circumscribed by her own experience. When she was pregnant with daughter Piper, she says, she pondered anti-smoking laws when confronted by cigarette smoke in a restaurant: “Instead of supporting [a ban] . . . I just stopped going to the restaurant. It eventually went smoke-free on its own, which is the way things like that should work.”
A pregnant waitress unprotected by a smoking ban might feel differently, as might, say, a vice presidential candidate, were she surrounded by chain smokers in her place of work.
Translation? I did not read the book; so, I stuck together a rather snarky book review, while giving my husband a head job…. or something. I mean, I would expect this out of a blogger, like myself. But this stupid bitch gets paid MONEY to write lame ass articles like this! Unbelievable! Meanwhile, I sit here and can’t get a job anywhere. Something is terribly wrong with the world.
What really steams me about this; is the fact that this woman is only famous, because she got fired from a job; because of her unprofessional behavior and went on to start a D.C. gossip blog, that she sold, and made like a shitload of money on….and she writes shit like this and passes it off as professional writing. Good Grief. 🙄
Don’t get me wrong; I am not a Sarah Palin fan boy. In fact, I did not even vote for John McCain —- mainly because of Sarah Palin, and because of John McCain’s stupidity. But this is just fucking unacceptable. I’m sorry; you don’t even read a book and then write a stupid ass liberal snipe, disguised a fucking book review?!?! Seriously??!?!
It is no damned wonder that the Washington Post is possibly getting a “Bail Out” from the Government. Because who in their right mind — or otherwise, would even read anything like this and take anything away from it of substance?
Ed Morrissey and I have not agreed much on G.M. and the status of the bail outs that they received from the Government. But it appears, that for a change, I agree with Ed; mark your calendars, because this does not happen often. Ed reports over on HotAir, that General Motors has taken the money, that was funded by taxpayers; like Ed, Me, and yes, you and has spent it —- overseas. Needless to say, there some lawmakers that are not very happy about it either.
Specifically, at a time when the nation’s unemployment rate has soared to levels not seen in decades and GM is cutting thousands of U.S. jobs, the company’s CEO is considering spending millions from its U.S. coffers — fattened by $50 billion in taxpayer aid — on its overseas operations, a possibility that has outraged critics and lawmakers.
“I don’t think most Americans believe that when the taxpayer bailouts were happening it was intended for that purpose,” said Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y. “It was intended to protect the American economy — not take the money overseas.”
GM’s Chief Executive Fritz Henderson recently announced that the bailed-out automaker might use its U.S. funds to help restructure its European unit Opel, noting that the financing agreements with the Treasury for the $34 billion of bailout funds already spent allow GM to spend any subsequently earned funds as its executives see fit. Some $16 billion remaining after its bankruptcy has strings attached.
[…]
GM has other plans to expand its business abroad. In August, GM China announced a $293 million venture, while last month GM South Korea announced a new infusion of more than $400 million. The automaker also recently inaugurated a $300 million transmission plant in Mexico.
So, is General Motors making money here in America? Uh, No.
General Motors Co. says it lost $1.2 billion from the time it left bankruptcy protection through Sept. 30, far better than previous quarters and a sign that the auto giant is starting to turn around.
….and how’s that account going?:
Chief Financial Officer Ray Young cautioned that the second- and third-quarter figures don’t comply with U.S. accounting standards and shouldn’t be compared with previous earnings.
GM says it is re-valuing its assets and liabilities and should comply with accounting standards next year.
Ouch.
While I was at the doctors with my Dad earlier today; I happened to mention this to him and another gentleman that worked at the same plant as my Father. Needless to say, their reaction to this was less than, um, shall we say, happy? My Dad replied in terms that I cannot write on this blog. To say that both of those guys were a bit ticked, would be an understatement.
Ed Morrissey cracks:
Let’s get this straight. GM gets tens of billions of dollars in taxpayer money and gets an Obama-managed bankruptcy — and stops complying with accounting standards? My goodness, they really are Government Motors!
In the past, I have given Ed Morrissey a bit of a hassle when he would criticize the auto workers and to an extent the Auto Companies. However, I feel this criticism is much warranted. Call it a hunch, but I tend to believe that the U.A.W. and the workers at the various G.M. plants, especially the one’s here in Michigan; are not going to be too thrilled that the company is taking it’s money and investing overseas; instead of investing it here, where the jobs are actually needed. No matter how you slice it; this was an extremely boneheaded move on the part of General Motors and it deserves the criticism it receives from ALL quarters.
An 11-year-old boy killed a bear at point-blank range last Wednesday night after it wouldn’t leave his family’s porch.
The boy was at his home near Driggs with his younger sisters and after seeing the bear on the front porch and not being able to get it to leave, the boy retrieved a gun and killed the animal.
The family declined to comment and wished to remain anonymous.
Fish and Game Conservation Officer Doug Petersen said the black bear had been a problem in the area near the county transfer station, and he and Fish and Game Officer Lauren Wednt had set up a trap earlier in the week.
“The bear had been hanging around and we got multiple complaint calls,” said Wendt. The bear had been getting into garbage cans and bird feeders in the area.
Petersen said officials may have had to put it down anyway. He said that in situations where the bear has been a problem around humans or threatens human safety, they usually don't issue citations.
“Human safety is a higher priority,” said Petersen. “We’re concerned with how bears are managed and we want to live in harmony with them.”
The boy and his family are not in any trouble, and Petersen said he issued them a permit to keep the bear. Usually when a bear is put down by Fish and Game they sell the hide at a state auction, Petersen said. Petersen said the family reported the bear Thursday morning. Fish and Game trapped and euthanized another problem black bear about two weeks ago, after the bear reportedly let himself into a home. Petersen said it’s normal for the animals to move from higher elevations this time of year.
Just let all of my readers know, that I will be away most of this morning. I have to go with my dad for a “Stress test” for his heart. I guess his doctor wants him to go for one. This means, I went to bed at around midnight; was back up this morning at 6:00 a.m. — I had the clock set for 8:45 am, but I was up at like 6:00! — and I am a night owl. Used to getting in bed, like at 2:00 am or later. So, I think by about noon or so, I am going to be feeling rough.
Having said all that, my body works on the maximum sleep rule. The more I get, the better I function. So, don’t expect no novels or in depth stuff outta me till tomorrow.
Smitty over at R.S. McCain’s blog asks “What if he really wants to be impeached?”
I submit that the continued provocations such as the KSM trial, the obsession with the previous administration, the wrenching changes from spendthrift to fiscal hawk could, if he’s a committed con man, be deliberate provocations towards impeachment.
I’m throwing out the idea that the ultimate Blame America piece will be when, pushed beyond all tolerance, there is a serious demand for impeachment. The con has reaped all of the desired financial rewards, and needs to exit the stage before the bankruptcy of the domestic policy meets the bankruptcy of the foreign policy somewhere around his head. The shiny factor of being POTUS is all drained away, leaving more disgruntled voters than W ever faced.
This is a bizarre possibility. I’d laugh at it, if not for the series of bizarre incidents that form 2009.
the trial does give the President a chance to make the pouty lip about the sins of America, which the world could love if only she’d throw off the bleak cloak of Bushism, while promising that he’ll put everything. But that’s his go-to and I’m pretty sure that’s he’s practiced that routine enough to do it whether KSM is standing tall before a judge in Manhattan or a military tribunal in Gitmo.
For over two hundred years we were careful to keep a firewall between civil and martial law. We did so because civil and martial law are polar opposites. Civil law is focused on protecting the rights of the accused against the overwhelming power of the state. When there is doubt, the accused walks free. Martial law is focused on imposing a minimal order on bloody chaos. It was focused on allowing the military to complete its mission and win wars. When there is doubt, the accused is presumed guilty.
Now, Obama wants to bring martial law into a civil court room in Manhattan. In order to let a civil conviction of KSM stand, the higher courts will have to overturn almost all the current constitutional protections of the accused.
…Obama has some of the qualities of the best con artists. That’s not to say that Obama is literally a con man; he’s not pulling the old Spanish Prisoner scam. But he shares more than a few of their attributes.
Obama held himself out to be one thing during the election (a bipartisan moderate), and on taking office became quite the opposite. Cons, like Obama, are ordinarily out to deceive people as to their true purposes. But it’s an error to think they come across as sleazy. The most effective ones are unusually likeable and charming, even as they pull off their scams. This likeability is not a tangential characteristic of con artists, either; it is a central one.
“Con”, after all, is short for “confidence”. The con artist works by gaining the victim’s confidence and trust. The successful con artist is so very likeable, in fact, that he seems especially credible, and people who might otherwise be wary and cynical drop their guard around him. They don’t examine him too closely, so great is their desire to believe.
Contradictions are waved away. Acts that would arouse suspicion if they were committed by someone else are excused. Important omissions go unnoticed. Inconsistencies are rationalized. Shady company is defended or ignored. Sound familiar?
The con artist is able to gain trust by using the right vocal inflections to fit the mark (or, in Obama’s case, the audience), changing accents and speech patterns to match. In addition, a con doesn’t usually stay in one place very long (it has been remarked how often Obama changed jobs) because, although people may not catch on to his game all that quickly, he is afraid that if he sticks around they eventually will.
This came via e-mail. I am following this story and I will post more, when I get it.
I just wish they would make the print a little bigger, for us old people. 😉 I did modify the print. Sorry for the huge size. It is how it came out, after I fiddled with it; with this silly text editor that comes with WordPress.

Acorn and the Unions will not have their way!
Our Campaign Is Not Over Yet!
So many people have written hoping we continue the fight, count every ballot and make sure no one steals this election. Acorn and the unions did their best to try and prove that the conservative movement was a shame. Rest assured they will NOT succeed. On Election Night the information we received was far different from that we received this week! They will NOT silence our voice that easily!
There is also the fact that NY is using the Sequoia Voting Systems machines. Princeton University (Click here to read) cited them as having been susceptible to voter fraud in the past. There’s a reason why the State of California BANNED them. Yet we must now prepare for this likelihood as well!
We are working to get the message out that this election is far from over! Our campaign and the New York Conservative Party is watching this recount and preparing for our next course of action. On Friday Doug has appeared on Cavuto on FoxNews and will appear on Glen Beck’s radio show on Monday. It is a call-to-arms for conservatives. Help however you can; post blogs, comment on websites and donate to help us mount a challenge if need be!
News Updates:
“Did Doug Hoffman Actually Win the NY-23 Special Election? If So, Does It …
Like I have written on here many, many times before. I hate like the devil to get into fights in the Blogsophere. But again, I find a stupid liberal shooting off at the mouth, when he does not have a flipping clue what the hell he is even taking about.
It appears that some liberals watched this show as well. A David Neiwert, who writes at crooks and liars; which is a very well known socialist liberal blog. Which is run by some idiot out in California.
Mr. Neiwert is entitled to his opinion, but he is not entitled to his own set of facts.
He writes:
Um, Ms. Fritsch, you need to avail yourself some history books too. It was conservatives who argued for maintaining slavery before the Civil War. It was conservatives who insisted after the war that blacks be denied the full rights of citizenship,
Whoa! Hold on a second there Jackson Brown! That sir is a falsehood, which has been perpetuated by the Democrats for years…. and it is flat wrong. Here is a video, made by the non-partisan discovery channel:
Matter of fact, here is a video; which was most likely produced by someone in the south, that says basically the same thing about the “Radical Republicans.”
He also says:
and who erected the system of Jim Crow, who led rope-bearing lynch mobs that crucified thousands of black people. It was conservatives who erected “No Black After Sundown” signs at the city borders of thousands of American towns.
Again, this is more Democratic Party Propaganda. It is well known that George Wallace, who delivered one of the most famous addresses was, in fact, a member of the Democratic Party. Further more, it was the Democratic Party of the south that fueled the racial hatred of the south. It was the Democratic Party that was formed by the former confederate Soldiers that lost the civil war. Apparently Mr. Neiwert never has actually read the history of the Lincoln-Douglas debate of 1885; and that Stephen A. Douglas was, in fact, a Democrat.
You see folks, this is why I left the Democrats; well, actually, they left me. But I digress. It is because of the deception that the Liberals like to pull, when it comes to the history of this Nation. That my friends, is a tragic thing, because not many young people know the truth, they simply believe what they are told.
Now I will concede a point here:
And most of all, it was conservatives who fought the Civil Rights movement tooth and nail. And it was only from the ceaseless efforts of liberals — many of them indeed Christian liberals — in opposition to conservatives, many of them Christian conservatives — that anything was in fact achieved during that era. Somehow, you’ve managed to get your history completely upside down.
He is right here; Strom Thurmond was a perfect example of this. He changed parties after the civil rights act was passed. What Mr. Neiwert fails to say here is that the Republican Party; after Lincoln died and the Radical Republicans were voted out, basically became a isolationist, Anti-Semitic, and yes, flat out racist party, till around the time of William F. Buckey and Irving Kristol switched sides, and began go after the Birchers and their ilk. Which was around the mid to late 1960’s. But from the time of the voting out of the “Radical Republicans”, all the way through to FDR’s time and up till the 1960’s the Republican Party was in fact, not minority friendly. It is a stain on that Party and has been for years. I cannot defend it, nor will I try. However, it would be helpful to point out, that those days in the Republican Party are quite frankly over. You go around a Republican gathering, and you drop the “N Word” around any of them, and you are asking to get tossed out on your head! Most of them, and I do mean the good majority of them, do not tolerate racism, at all. There are some within the ranks still that harbor prejudices; but they are very small minority in the party, and none of them hold any position any longer. But the good majority of them, are not bigots at all. Much has changed in that party since the 1940’s and 1950’s in the Republican Party and I am quite happy about that.
However, there was a reason behind the opposition to the civil rights act; and no, it is not racism, as it is alleged by the Democrats. It was because of the civil rights act’s unconstitutionality. Basically the bill, in its final form, violated the Constitution. This is why Senator Barry Goldwater would not sign on to it, nor support it, at all. It is helpful to note that this action of stubbornness cost him the Presidential election. So, while he might have been slightly right about the civil rights act. He was quite wrong about the history of the Republican Party.
AllahPundit and Ace have been all over this like a fly on Doo doo… (Phew!) Which is not entirely surprising seeing that it is a pretty crappy subject. Bump da bump bump…ching! 😛
I have bloggedabout this woman before; and now, I am doing it again. Which proves that it is a slow news day. I, like many other Conservative Bloggers, gavethis gal the benefit of the doubt. I see now, that this was a big mistake.
It seems that little miss “Polly Pure Bright” has made more than one sex tape and naked Photo in her day. Now, keep in mind, the source for this info has given some bogus info before. So, buyer beware!
AllahPundit Remarks:
On the contrary, it’s the fact that they’re imperfect and prone to “stray from the path,” as we all are, that draws them towards redemption in the faith. There does, however, come a point where you stray so far from the path or so frequently that your commitment to it comes into question. For example, an atheist in a foxhole might be forgiven for saying a prayer in a moment of panic, while he’s being shot at. An atheist who prays any time he’s in a tough spot … simply ain’t much of an atheist. Has CP reached that point (yet) in Christian/conservative opinion or is her line of credit essentially limitless”?
Ace just sets it out like it is:
My problem, instead, is that she has enlisted supporters, such as myself, to support her in her legal/PR campaign, on the theory that the California pageant had nothing legitimate to boot her out on, and that only anti-Christian animus could explain their behavior, when in fact… well, first the photos, which were racy, but I excused and defended. And then, well, the masturbation tape, which I kept quiet about.
And now… the other seven masturbation tapes…
She knew all this stuff was out there, she knew it was coming out, etc., and yet I and many of her supporters have been impressed into duty as her defenders through deception.
Because it wasn’t ever true that there was no reason, save anti-Christian animus, to kick her out of the pageant organization. A masturbation tape is, well. I’m not really offended by it but other pageant-hopefuls have gotten the boot for the same thing, and even a lot less.
So what do I feel about her? I feel she chumped me in order to advance her own legal interests…
Whether she has anything more interesting to say is up to her. But the Perez Hilton/pageant stuff? I really don’t care to hear how unfair it all was anymore. It was unfair, and a book deal was gotten out of that; that’s enough. A book deal can bandage up a lot of wounds.
What really made me want to blog about this, when I saw it last night; was this right here, which is over on the Radar Online story:
In her newly released book Carrie wrote, “God gave us our bodies, and it’s perfectly right that we use them in ways where we can give glory to God by making our bodies, our temples of the Holy Spirit, strong and fast.”
Sorry Miss Prejean; but making multiple tapes of yourself, rubbing yourself is NOT considered using your Body in a manner that is pleasing to God, nor is it considered making your body the temple of the Holy Spirit. The truth is folks Carrie Prejean played the “Jesus” card on us. She is nothing more than a two bit floozy, who would get naked to make a quick buck in a heartbeat. When asked about marriage, she gave the answer, that she knew damned well would cause a stink. If you think for one minute that this blond bimbo is truly a Conservative, much less a Christian, then I have a swamp to sell you in Texas; for cheap. Carrie Prejean is nothing more than a opportunist; she gave the answer that she knew darned well would cause a backlash against her; knowing full well that she had some very bad behavior in her closet.
Why do I say all that? This is why; because no true Born-Again Christian that I know or even had contact with in my entire twenty-six years of being a Christian, would ever expose they bodies in the manner that this gal has. Carrie Prejean is the text book example of the outright stench of compromise in the Evangelical Christian movement of the 21 century. I mean, not over dramatize this whole thing; but it is the type Christianity of — “Why yes, I am Christian, now let me get my clothes on and pour you a drink” kind. It is sickening and reminds me why I left that bunch of compromising, watered-down type of Christianity. This is not to say that Fundamentalist Christianity is any different at all; we have our issues too. I can name a few — King James Only Cultism, Cult of personality, Pastoral Authority Abuse, and on and on. — But do we have Fundamentalist Baptists taking their clothes off and romping around in a Bikini; all the while praising Jesus Christ and making sex tapes? No. We do not!
The reason why this gets up my nose so much is this; as much as I know that I am not the perfect image of a Christian and at times, I say and do things that I know are not very becoming of a Christian, which is why I do not preach or even try and post things of a Christian nature on my blog, outside a newsletter that I like to read; it is quite hard to just sit here and do nothing, while some stupid idiot blond harpy takes a makes a mockery of Christian to the world. It makes me angry, sick and sad — all in one bundled up emotion inside. All the while smart mouthed beta males are getting their jollies off of mocking the Christian Faith. Quite bluntly, the stupid woman needs to be told, cut the stupidity or just farking disappear.
Next time someone calls me a grumpy old goat, I’m showing ’em this:
Not long ago, Meghan McCain, maverick progeny and rising media star (due, no doubt, to her impressive intellectual gifts) posted a cleavage-intense picture of herself on her Twitter account.
“For years,” the 25-year-old would later lament, “I have struggled to accept the fact that the way I look in a tank top comes off more ‘Sexual’ than a flat-chested woman.”
First, let’s all agree on the obvious: a nation that fails to deal with the deep-seated struggles of busty young blondes is a nation that fails us all.
Then feel free to wonder why an intelligent young woman feigns astonishment when her candid shot creates a hubbub online after she disseminated the shot to 76,000 followers. Isn’t that the point of posting on Twitter? Highlighting everything? Even your socio-political thoughts on cup sizes?
Twitter’s popularity and usefulness are a mystery to me. Pressed by personal, professional and cultural forces, I sporadically deploy short missives for fear of becoming one of those cantankerous technophobes who is too dense to recognize the miracle of letting “followers” know I hate raisins or that I loved the finale of “Mad Men.”
Now, not only am I expected to transmit this minutiae mere seconds after I think it, some 20-year-old in California has decreed that I must do it within the brevity of 140 characters. This need for conciseness, in fact, induces normally articulate friends of mine to write in Prince lyrics — recklessly using “2” and “4” and “U” as words.
Man, talk about an “out of touch” old goat! good grief! Get that man a Victrola and a bottle of ensure and a good hearing aid! I happen to love Twitter. I’m on there, everyday. Twitter comes into it’s own during disasters, terrorist attacks or majorbreakingstories. Not to mention, twitter came in extremely handy during a the uprising in Iran. So, this whole notion that twitter is useless, is nothing more baseless nonsense. Truth be told, this is nothing more another ad-hominem attack on twitter, from someone who is a member of the old deadwood media; which is being slowly being phased out. The man is feeling the heat and is afraid to losing his paycheck. So, he attacks Twitter. It works and appeals to those who share in his short-sighted viewpoint, but it makes him look like quite the “out of touch” elitist to those of us, who actually use twitter.
The problem with that, is it makes him and all the rest of the so-called Journalists look very small. Instead of criticizing it, why not try using it? Criticizing something that is useful to everyone else in the rest of the world; except you, makes you look very small. The reasoning for it, defies my ability to understand it. So, everyone else is dumb and you are smart? No, everyone else is smart and you are a backward old fool; who most likely too stupid to know how to even run a Computer; much less a cellphone. Which brings me to another point. I am almost certain that back in the day, when computers were making their debut on the market that some older gents were dismissing them as a fad, that would pass. Needless to say, I am quite thankful that the critics were wrong. Computers liberated me to be able to write. This is coming from someone who has A.D.H.D. and has horrific handwriting. Computers and Blogging were a God-send. I do not claim to be perfect at it; but I am getting better at it everyday!
Former Rep. William Jefferson was sentenced Friday to serve 13 years in prison for what the lead prosecutor described as “the most extensive and pervasive pattern of corruption in the history of Congress.”
While the sentence by federal Judge T.S. Ellis III fell well short of the 27 to 33 years recommended by the government, it is by the far the stiffest jail term ever imposed on a member or former member of Congress for crimes committed while in office.
Jefferson, 62, was found guilty Aug. 6 on 11 charges, including soliciting bribes, depriving citizens of honest service, money laundering and using his office as a racketeering enterprise.
He was acquitted of five other charges in a case that famously featured the revelation that he had hidden $90,000 in the freezer of his home, marked bills from the FBI that prosecutors said was going to be used as a bribe.
Jefferson stood stoically as the sentence was read, his head cocked slightly to the left, showing no obvious emotion.
The race hustlers are most likely say he is being picked on. But I dunno. I doubt it; as this guy was nailed by the feds on a wiretap. So, I doubt Sharpton will have much to say about it. For the record, and before anyone asks; yes, I do have a problem with Republicans that do the same thing. I was glad when Jack Abramoff and all of the rest of the Republicans who have been convicted of same charges.
Possibly one of the biggest blunders by the Obama Administration:
WASHINGTON — Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the self-described mastermind of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and four other men accused in the plot will be prosecuted in federal court in New York City, the United States attorney general announced Friday.
But the administration will prosecute another set of high-profile detainees now being held at the military prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba — Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, who is accused of planning the 2000 bombing of the Navy destroyer Cole in Yemen, and four other detainees — before a military commission.
Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. announced those decisions in a news conference Friday at the Department of Justice. The arrangements would mean that civilian prosecutors would handle those detainees accused of the 2001 terrorist attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, northern Virginia and Pennsylvania, while the 2000 attack against the Cole would remain within the military system.
You’re forgetting one thing, Alan: KSM is NOT an American citizen, and not entitled to the protections of our Constitution unless we afford them to him.
The problem with “Affording” them to these guys is this, as Ed Morrissey writes:
That brings up a key question. What happens if the judge throws out key evidence over nitpicky technicalities? What happens if KSM and others get found not guilty because of gaps in the evidence chain resulting from national-security issues or “evidentiary issues”? Will Obama let them walk away? If that happens, look for a massive amount of anger to overwhelm the naive Commander in Chief. And if Obama isn’t prepared to let them walk after a potential acquittal, then it makes a mockery of the criminal trial, and of the justice system itself.
These terrorists belong at a military tribunal, not the justice system employed for Americans to judge other Americans for civil criminal conduct. Instead of giving these men the oblivion they deserve, we’re incentivizing further attacks on the US by giving them the biggest possible PR platform. We may as well put them on TV and call it Dancing With the Terrorists, or So You Want To Be A Jihadist Martyr.
I have worse scenario than that; what if we happen to get a judge that is a Muslim? What happens if during that trial he begins to feel a twinge of sympathy for these terrorists and begins to nitpick at the evidence and ends up tossing the case out of court? I know it sounds far fetched; but it could happen.
Either way, is this massive blunder by the President and I look for Fox News to go on the attack over this. These guy should be tried in International Court. Just like the Nazi’s were. But because our President is a liberal; this will not be done. He is of the belief system that the terrorists were nothing more than common petty criminals and should be treated as such. This is the same mistake that President Bill Clinton made and it is why September 11’th happened in the first place. As long as the United States continues to make the same mistakes, when it comes to handling of terrorists, we will continue to see terrorists attacks on our soil. It is a fact of reality.
Update: Hell, Democrat Jim Webb even thinks that this is a bad idea! (H/T Ed at HotAir)
I have never disputed the constitutional authority of the President to convene Article III courts in cases of international terrorism. However, I remain very concerned about the wisdom of doing so. Those who have committed acts of international terrorism are enemy combatants, just as certainly as the Japanese pilots who killed thousands of Americans at Pearl Harbor. It will be disruptive, costly, and potentially counterproductive to try them as criminals in our civilian courts.
The precedent set by this decision deserves careful scrutiny as we consider proper venues for trying those now held at Guantanamo who were apprehended outside of this country for acts that occurred outside of the country. And we must be especially careful with any decisions to bring onto American soil any of those prisoners who remain a threat to our country but whose cases have been adjudged as inappropriate for trial at all. They do not belong in our country, they do not belong in our courts, and they do not belong in our prisons.
I have consistently argued that military commissions, with the additional procedural rules added by Congress and enacted by President Obama, are the most appropriate venue for trying individuals adjudged to be enemy combatants.
Update: It seems that my gay stalker Ed Brayton does not like what I wrote. Big surprise there, seeing he is a leftist libertarian/classic liberal; or as I like to call them small Government liberals. I guess he and his sheep that follow after him, did not bother to follow the links and see, that yes, in fact, I did refer to the International criminal court. Anyhow, my stalker says that Conservatives do not support that idea. To that I reply; Who says that I follow the Republican/Conservative talking points? I believe that these terrorists ought to be tried in international criminal court or at least in a Military trial and NOT in a civilian court on American soil. As Obama said HE felt they should be, back in 2006. But now has flip flopped on, now the he has been elected.
Wow…. 😯 Sarah Palin gets her day in the court of opinion; it is about flipping time already. From the Drudge:

Going Rogue: An American Life
by Sarah Palin
Chapter Four; Section 8, pages 255-257
By the third week in September, a “Free Sarah” campaign was under way and the press at large was growing increasingly critical of the McCain camp’s decision to keep me, my family and friends back home, and my governor’s staff all bottled up. Meanwhile, the question of which news outlet would land the first interview was a big deal, as it always is with a major party candidate.
From the beginning, Nicolle [Wallace] pushed for Katie Couric and the CBS Evening News. The campaign’s general strategy involved coming out with a network anchor, someone they felt had treated John well on the trail thus far. My suggestion was that we be consistent with that strategy and start talking to outlets like FOX and the Wall Street Journal. I really didn’t have a say in which press I was going to talk to, but for some reason Nicolle seemed compelled to get me on the Katie bandwagon.
“Katie really likes you,” she said to me one day. “she’s a working mom and admires you as a working mom. She has teenage daughter like you. She just relates to you,” Nicolle said. “believe me, I know her very well. I’ve worked with her.” Nicolle had left her gig at CBS just a few months earlier to hook up with the McCain campaign. I had to trust her experience, as she had dealt with national politics more than I had. But something always struck me as peculiar about the way she recalled her days in the White House, when she was speaking on behalf of President George W. Bush. She didn't have much to say that was positive about her former boss or the job in general. Whenever I wanted to give a shout-out to the White House’s homeland security efforts after 9/11, we were told we couldn’t do it. I didn’t know if that was Nicolle’s call.
Nicolle went on to explain that Katie really needed a career boost. “She just has such low self-esteem,” Nicolle said. She added that Katie was going through a tough time. “She just feels she can’t trust anybody.”
I was thinking, And this has to do with John McCain’s campaign how?
Nicolle said. “She wants you to like her.”
Hearing all that, I almost started to feel sorry for her. Katie had tried to make a bold move from lively morning gal to serious anchor, but the new assignment wasn’t going very well.
“You know what? We’ll schedule a segment with her,” Nicolle said. “If it doesn’t go well, if there’s no chemistry, we won’t do any others.”
Meanwhile, the media blackout continued. It got so bad that a couple of times I had a friend in Anchorage track down phone numbers for me, and then I snuck in calls to folks like Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity and someone I thought was Larry Kudlow but turned out to be Neil Cavuto’s producer. I had a friend call Bill O’Reilly after I was inundated with supporters in Alaska asking why the campaign was “ignoring” his on-air requests for a McCain campaign interview. I had another friend scrambling to find Mark Levin’s number. Aboard the campaign plane I was within twenty-five feet of reporters for hours on end. Headquarters’ strategy was that I should not go to the back of the aircraft and talk to the press. At first this was subtle, but as the campaign wore on, Tracey or Tucker would call headquarters to request permission, and someone in DC would respond, “No! Absolutely not- block her if she tries to go back.”
A quite interesting story indeed. Sounds to me like that this Nichole Wallace was a liberal plant in John McCain’s campaign for the sole purpose of putting the “Deep Six” on John McCain Campaign. Now the really funny part is that Ann Althouse says that Sarah Palin is “dumb,” that sounds like nothing more than petty jealousy. I thought Ann was better than that, but then again, I never though Ann would vote for Barack Obama either —- Now, who’s dumb sweetie? I think the answer is quite clear here. What more can be expected from a woman, who, in all honesty, Fellatio’ed her way to the place that she is now?
