If John McCain wants to win, despite the polls, this is not the way to go about doing it. Questioning someones loyalty to America is not a acceptable thing in Politics. As Michele Bachmann recently found out.
Something tells me, that we’ll be seeing a bit more less of this man in the future.
The problem is not technical, uh, and the problem is not mastery of the legislative intricacies of Washington. The problem is, uh, can you get the American people to say, “This is really important,” and force their representatives to do the right thing? That requires mobilizing a citizenry. That requires them understanding what is at stake. Uh, and climate change is a great example.
You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know — Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.
They — you — you can already see what the arguments will be during the general election. People will say, “Ah, Obama and Al Gore, these folks, they’re going to destroy the economy, this is going to cost us eight trillion dollars,” or whatever their number is. Um, if you can’t persuade the American people that yes, there is going to be some increase in electricity rates on the front end, but that over the long term, because of combinations of more efficient energy usage, changing lightbulbs and more efficient appliance, but also technology improving how we can produce clean energy, the economy would benefit.
If we can’t make that argument persuasively enough, you — you, uh, can be Lyndon Johnson, you can be the master of Washington. You’re not going to get that done.
Sorry, you cannot spin that. Obama, in essence, is saying that he will cause one industry to collapse. All so he can promote his own agenda of “Green” energy. The problem with that is this, there are no tested, proven and ready alternative forms of energy, yet.
Ed from HotAir weighs in:
Energy prices skyrocketing will leave the economy in tatters, as we saw earlier this year. While no one doubts the need to start transitioning to better sources of energy, the manner in which that gets done means the difference of whether it gets done at all. A stagnant or receding economy does not produce scientific breakthroughs, especially when government both increases taxes and imposes steep cost burdens on energy. That cuts into both manufacturing and R&D, because as profits fall, fewer dollars go into research — which means that all of these wonderful developments would get delayed, or go unrealized altogether.
We need to plan for the transition better than what Obama proposes. We need to use our own reserves of oil, natural gas, coal, and shale to cushion the economy while we develop the alternatives and build the infrastructure to deliver it. That’s what John McCain proposed in his Lexington Project.
Price shocks on energy is the last thing this economy needs. It would be worse than the taxes Obama promises to impose on investment, and would have the same depressive effect. It’s an utter disaster.
Not only this, but I also believe that if Obama does this, Jobs will be lost. I guess Obama believes that stealing one man’s job, top create another is just perfectly fine. 🙄
That would be like shutting down an auto plant, and putting people, who have worked at an auto plant for some 30 years, out of a job. Just so that a company could start a car plant, making electric cars. Yeah, sure, new jobs are created, but what about the people working for the auto plants, that do not make the Electric car? Why allow them to suffer?
Just more things to keep in mind, when voting, come Tuesday. Because Obama believes in spreading the wealth, except it comes to those working in the coil industry.
If I were the Unionized Coil Miners, I would raising the roof about this!
Wow, no wonder The Washington Times was taken off of Barack Obama’s plane.
The Washington Times, in one of it’s commentary sections really let Barack Obama have it, These are questions that The Washington Times felt that John McCain should have asked Barack Obama:
With the announcement that you raised an additional $150 million in September alone, you’re on pace to raise and spend something on the order of $650 million during the campaign. Together with your Big Labor allies and liberal 527s spending perhaps $350 million more on top of that on your behalf, we’re looking at a staggering $1 billion. Furthermore, it has been reported you’re out-advertising the McCain campaign 4-to-1 around the country. Aren’t you essentially trying to buy the presidency? When was it put up for sale to the highest bidder?
— My campaign has been criticized by the liberal media in recent weeks for some angry words about you from some of my backers, which I’ve disavowed repeatedly. By contrast, why have you not vigorously condemned the remarks of your supporters, like those of actress Sandra Bernhard, who warned Sarah Palin to stay out of Manhattan lest she be gang-raped by Miss Bernhard’s “black brothers,” or Rep. Charlie Rangel, who said Mrs. Palin was “disabled”; or South Carolina Democratic Party Chairwoman Carol Fowler, who said Mrs. Palin’s chief qualification for having been selected as my running mate was that she hadn’t had an abortion; and most recently Rep. John Lewis of Georgia who likened me to one-time segregationist George Wallace?
— You have spoken of your intention of raising taxes on the “rich” and making them pay their “fair share.” Can you put some hard numbers on that? What constitutes “rich” in your view, and what do you consider a “fair share,” given that, according to October 2007 Internal Revenue Service figures, the top 1 percent of taxpayers already pay 39.4 percent of all income taxes, the top 5 percent pay nearly 60 percent and the top 25 percent pay 86 percent? Is that not “fair share” enough, and if not, what would be “fair,” in your view?
— You and your vice-presidential running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, have vowed repeatedly to “end” the war in Iraq. Why is the verb always “end” and never “win”?
— You have sought to make an issue of my supposedly voting with President Bush 90 percent of the time, hoping to link me to a president whose popularity rating is under 30 percent. But isn’t it also true that you have voted 95 percent of the time with a Democratic Congress whose popularity rating is even lower than Mr. Bush’s, in some polls as low as 9 percent. So isn’t that 90 percent thing a red herring?
— During the Democratic primaries, you refused to participate in a debate on the Fox News Channel, supposedly because the network isn’t “fair and balanced,” even though the event was to be co-sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus. If you are unable to stand up to Brit Hume and Chris Wallace, why should we believe that as president you would be able to stand up to Vladimir Putin, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Kim Jong-il or Hugo Chavez?
— You have longstanding ties to ACORN, a left-wing group that is being investigated on voter-registration fraud charges in at least a dozen states, including in Nevada, where ACORN employees submitted voter-registration forms for the entire Dallas Cowboys starting lineup. Will you sever all ties to ACORN, call on Congress to revoke its millions of dollars in federal funding and urge the attorney general to pursue a RICO (Racketeer-Influenced Corruption Organization Act) investigation of ACORN?
— You have received the backing of the teachers unions and have called for more federal spending on public education. So, if you are elected president, will you send your daughters, Sasha and Malia, to the D.C. public schools, as President Carter did with Amy? Would it not be hypocritical – in essence saying, “Do as I say, not as I do” – to do otherwise?
— In your acceptance speech at the Democratic Convention, you said we should be our “brother’s keeper.” Yet, what have you done in that regard to help your own half-brother, George Hussein Obama, who lives in a hut in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya, on $1 a month?
— You say you are against gay marriage, so why have you come out against a ballot referendum in California that would overrule the actions of four judges there that overturned the expressed will of 61 percent of the people of California in a 2000 referendum and imposed gay marriage by judicial fiat?
— Some of your supporters have tried to make a health issue of the fact I’ve been treated for melanoma, even though I’ve been pronounced cancer-free. Yet you have not released more than a summary of your medical records. Will you release your full medical records before the election. If not, why not? Don’t the people have a right to know?
While all of these questions are legitimate, It seems to me, that the times is a bit on the aggressive side. I also noticed that this did not get printed till after their reporters were safely off the plane. Smart move, one would suppose. While on their face, the questions asked here are proper, but it comes off, at least to this writer, as a bad case of sour grapes.
At the risk of being accused of being a race baiter myself. I honestly have to ask the The Washington Times, if they would ask such questions of this Democratic Candidate, if he were a white man? I really wonder.
I think it would be good for the Conservative media, at the point, to just get over it, and accept the fact that the Democrats are going to win this election and start planning for 2012.
Oh yeah, but I’m a liberal, if I say stuff like that! 🙄
As a Rule I do not watch Saturday Night Live. That sort of humor is just not my bag. But I do enjoy watching some of the politically related stuff.
Anyhow, John McCain was on there, here’s the video:
The quip about the McCain fine gold was rather snort worthy.
In this clip the lines about “Reverse Maverick” and “Double Maverick” were a hoot too.
Overall, it was rather funny, him and Tina Fey was rather interesting…
What was even more hilarious was the video of the send up of Keith Olbermann! I loved that, and from what Keith said on show, so did he. Which brings the question, when someone does of a send up of your program, and you love it, what kind of person does that make you? 😀
Here’s the video:
The camera changes and the drama are a perfect imitation! Richard Wolf and the other person were done very well. The Special Comment about Keith’s Cat was perfect, the head tilting and screaming was very funny.
Although the paper throwing was done much out of the proper order. The hair color was spot on. Overall, it’s much worth the view.
HONOLULU — The state’s Department of Health director on Friday released a statement verifying the legitimacy of Sen. Barack Obama birth certificate.
The state has received multiple requests for a copy of Obama’s birth certificate. State law does not allow officials to release the birth certificate of a person to someone outside of the family.
There were rumors that Obama was born in Kenya, where his father is from. The Constitution requires that the president be a natural born citizen of the U.S.
While many sites and news organizations have released copies provided by the Obama campaign, the rumors have persisted.
“There have been numerous requests for Sen. Barack Hussein Obama’s official birth certificate. State law (Hawai‘i Revised Statutes §338-18) prohibits the release of a certified birth certificate to persons who do not have a tangible interest in the vital record,” DOH Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said.
Fukino said she and the registrar of vital statistics, Alvin Onaka, have personally verified that the health department holds Obama’s original birth certificate.
“Therefore, I as Director of Health for the State of Hawai‘i, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawai‘i State Department of Health has Sen. Obama’s original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures,” Fukino said.
Fukino said that no state official, including Gov. Linda Lingle, ever instructed that Obama’s certificate be handled differently from any other.
Some Obama critics claim he was not born in the United States.
Multiple lawsuits were filed to try and force Obama to provide proof of citizenship. Earlier Friday, a southwest Ohio magistrate rejected a challenge to Obama’s U.S. citizenship. Judges in Seattle and Philadelphia recently dismissed similar suits.
This story, Which has been disproven by Factcheck.org and WorldNetDaily both, still continues to exist. As long as there are people, like Alex Jones who continue to believe and spread this rumor, It will exist.
The real funny thing is, this rumor and the one about Obama being a Muslim was started not other than the White Nationalist Website, Stormfront.Org. I remember seeing the first posting saying as much back two years ago. I never thought it would ever go this far. So, one can safely say that this entire rumor is entrenched in Racism.
Of course, the G.O.P will never admit to the racism, but that’s to be expected of that Party. 😀
Perhaps now, that Tin foil hat crowd will finally fine something or someone else to rumor monger about. (Except perhaps for me! 😮 )
For all things that I have criticized, mocked and made snarky comments regarding Sarah Palin. This is not one of them.
This story comes from, of all places The L.A. Times, which could be considered a hit piece, because of the piece trying to say that Palin is too emotional. However, here is the quote:
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin arrived at the Boyer Orchards here Friday afternoon, entering a sweet-smelling wooden barn full of crates of apples. "This is gorgeous," Palin said, greeting workers.
The visit was designed to highlight small businesses and their special needs and how a John McCain administration would help them.
And the Republican vice presidential candidate did talk business and taxes with Matthew and Bruce Boyer, whose family has owned and worked this 300-acre orchard for 51 years now.
But it was after their business chat that Palin had some special moments with a special fan, Amber Brown. As Palin left the barn, an excited crowd outside was mid-verse singing "God Bless America," but roared at the sight of Palin.
Brown, who is 23 and from New Paris, held a poster that said: “I have Down’s syndrome and I’m voting for you. I’m a fighter too!”
Palin saw Brown, headed straight for her and they embraced. “I love that poster!" said the mother of a Down syndrome baby (Click on Read more line below to see photo of Palin with her infant son, Trig).
"You’re a fighter and you’re beautiful,” Palin told Brown. The pair posed for pictures and hugged again.
Palin then continued down the rope line, paying special attention to the babies and children, at one point crouching down beside four little girls.
Once Palin finished, she returned to Brown and embraced her again. Palin’s husband, Todd, also came by and chatted with Brown and her family.

As someone who grew up with a bad case of A.D.H.D. which, quite frankly, made my damn life a living hell. I can relate to this. I made offhand snarky comment in a chat room about this lady’s situation, because I felt she might be exploiting it for political purposes. But perhaps I misjudged her a bit.
I will expect that the Communist Liberal Keith Olbermann will make some sort of smart assed comment about this on his program Monday, which would not surprise me at all. As Sarah Palin said in the Video, this isn’t about politics, this is about kids who are born with disabilities that they cannot control or had any say in choosing. Whenever I see a child with turrets or polio, I get misty eyed, because I don’t have it nearly as bad as some. My little inability to focus without proper meds is a drop in the bucket, compared to some of the disabilities that some are born with.
It also hits home for another reason, my aunt; my mom’s sister has a disability; she is developmentally disabled. The old word was, well, Mentally Retarded. (it sounds so damn cruel to call her that.) She will never be able to take care of herself. My mom has vowed to take care of her, as long as she is able. However, it pains me to see her sometimes struggle to handle her. She’s not getting any younger. I sometimes fear to think what might happen to my aunt, if my Mom passes away. I try and not dwell on it. It frightens me to.
So, accept this little sobering piece, just as a mea culpa. I get this one too.
I say “obligatory”, because I say it is quite silly that the Conservative Blogosphere is having a hissy fit over that fact that his Aunt was living here.
Obama says that he did not know, and you know, I’m inclined to believe the guy. You just cannot keep track of everything your damn family does.
Hell, I have a cousin who’s a career criminal, am I responsible for his actions? Hell no!
It just seems to me, that the Conservative Blogosphere has been on the hunt to; dare I say the word?; Lynch Barack Obama for having the gall, the outright audacity, the very nerve; to run for President of The United States of America. For, dare I say it?; venturing into White Man’s territory.
I think the that the George W. Bush Administration would do well to just leave well enough alone. Because the last thing that the Republican Party needs is to be known as the Party that deported an African-American Presidential Candidate’s aunt from the United States. That would indeed be the nail in the coffin of that political party. As it is now, the Republican Party has been tarred by the irresponsibilty of some of it’s more fringe elements. The last thing they need right now is something like this on the minds of everyone voting come November 4.
A rather remarkably interesting article over at the quite Liberal Op-Ed News asks, “Is Bush Sane?”
Actually, the real question that one should asking is, are those who voted for him twice sane, despite the fact that he took us into a war, based upon what is now known as false information.
Further more, the even bigger question is, will all of those people vote for McCain?
Many Libertarians are voting Obama, to punish the Republicans for electing Bush.
Egad. 🙄
Myself, I’m sticking to principles. I’m still voting for Barr.
One interesting question:
Leaving George W. Bush out of consideration, what former U.S. president would you most like to have waterboarded and why?
My Answer: The entire staff, Bloggers, and Writers of The Weekly Standardexcept for Mary Katharine Ham, because she’s a respectable and downright pretty lady. Who seriously needs to get away from Politics, before it makes her into a monster.
For those who want to know what they are clicking on first. It’s a rather long and quite idiotic posting, by a Conservative Blogger, attempting to prove that Barack Obama is really the son of Malcolm X.
Yes, they went there.
No wonder that the Conservatives are losing, not only the election. But the intellectual debate.
I’m ashamed to even be a Conservative minded person right now. 🙁
IT IS impossible to forecast how important any presidency will be. Back in 2000 America stood tall as the undisputed superpower, at peace with a generally admiring world. The main argument was over what to do with the federal government’s huge budget surplus. Nobody foresaw the seismic events of the next eight years. When Americans go to the polls next week the mood will be very different. The United States is unhappy, divided and foundering both at home and abroad. Its self-belief and values are under attack.
For all the shortcomings of the campaign, both John McCain and Barack Obama offer hope of national redemption. Now America has to choose between them. The Economist does not have a vote, but if it did, it would cast it for Mr Obama. We do so wholeheartedly: the Democratic candidate has clearly shown that he offers the better chance of restoring America’s self-confidence. But we acknowledge it is a gamble. Given Mr Obama’s inexperience, the lack of clarity about some of his beliefs and the prospect of a stridently Democratic Congress, voting for him is a risk. Yet it is one America should take, given the steep road ahead.
I can tell you right now, there are many wealthy people, who read this magazine and it’s distributorship is to many Conservatives. I look for many Conservatives to cross the aisle and vote Democrat.
And, by the way, he will probably get it. Here’s to hoping Mr Obama’s moderate and sensible side wins over his primary-season, protectionist-populist side.
I bet there’s a good number of people betting on that hope. But I highly doubt that Obama is going to do anything extreme during his tenure as President.
A Huffington Post writer stabbed her former lover more than 200 times with a screwdriver and then tried to conceal the slaying, PalmBeachPost.com reported.
After committing the gruesome crime, Carol Anne Berger, an election correspondent for the Huffington Post, reported her former flame missing, then fatally shot herself a day later, police told the Web site.
Lt. Gary Chapman said Jessica Kalish, 56, a software executive, was found in the backseat of her BMW on Oct. 23, the Web site reported.
Kalish had been stabbed with a Phillips-head screwdriver 220 times, he said, with wounds concentrated in the back of her head, back, arms and face. A blow to Kalish’s neck likely killed her, Chapman told the Web site.
Berger and Kalish recently had hired an attorney to sell their house and split the revenue. Kalish had met another woman and spent hours absorbed in cyber-dates with her new companion, PalmBeachPost.com reported.
“We are all very lucky to have Carol Anne be part of the Off the Bus family,” a Huffington Post statement read, referring to the Web site’s special election section. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of Carol Anne Berger and Jessica Kalish.”
Unlike some of my fellow Bloggers on the right, I will refrain from the usual nastiness that follows something like this. I’ll just say that it is a tragedy and that I’ll be praying for the families of those involved in a tragedy, such as this.
If you’d like to go read the asinine ramblings of the assholes, who couldn’t even say anything decent… Go here. May God be their judges. I thought that the Conservatives and Republicans were better than this. Perhaps that was a gross misjudgment.
I saw this last night and I had to let out a snort….
This from a story about Barack Obama about his supposed Birth Certificate forgery. Which has been disproven by Factcheck.org and WorldNetDaily both.
This comes via the very far right wing NewsWithViews:
“If Obama becomes president he will eventually be exposed as a fraud, but it will be too late. The Democrat Party will have control of both houses of Congress and the White House. And too many Republicans have become big-spending liberals who are willing to go along with a socialist agenda as long as they keep their jobs,” adds Mike Baker.
“These will be dangerous times, mark my words: the police and the military will be used against American citizens. Think of Waco, Texas, but on a national scale,” warns Det. Frances.
“An Obama presidency may be the beginning of the end of the US Constitution,” he said.
The story that I quoted also tries to say that the Sheriff, a one Mike Scott who referred to Barack Obama by his full name, was visited by the FBI. That is totally false. He was investigated by his own Dept. for engaging in politics, while in uniform. Which is against the law.
But the real stand out quote is the one above. One would have to disconnect their normal functional brain to believe something as absurd as that. At the most, some fringe groups on the Right and possibly on the far left, might and I do say MIGHT have a problem. Although, I highly doubt that Obama as President would start going after anyone at all.
Why do I say this? Because Obama is going to be elected, much to consternation of the Conservatives and the Republican Party. Do you think for one lousy second that Obama is going to actually do anything at all, that would be considered political suicide?!?!?! Come on now, Use your Brain, Please! 🙄
It is no wonder that Joe Farah of WorldNetDaily.com, kicked Paul Walter’s sorry butt to the curb long ago. (Paul Walter is the owner of NewswithViews.com)
US citizens living in Israel line-up to cast their ballots as they vote early for the US Presidential elections at a cultural centre in Jerusalem on October 28, 2008. A poll conducted by the Rabin Center for Israel Studies found that 46.6% of Israelis would vote for Republican nominee John McCain if given chance to elect a US president, while Democrat Barack Obama would receives 34% of votes. Others remained undecided. (MENAHEM KAHANA/AFP/Getty Images)
Not a big surprise. Jewish voters have always favored the Republicans because of thier pro-Isreal stance. Nice Photo too. 🙂
The Department of Defense’s current base budget is close to $500 billion. So if he meant that promise, he plans on a total defense budget of about a trillion dollars.
What exactly is Obama planning to do with a “civilian force” with such an astronomical level of funding?
A good question that I would like to know as well. But all this posturing and guessing and scaremongering is for naught. Because first off, there is no way in hell that there is going to be a Democratic “Super-Majority”. No way, no how, there’s too many damn right leaning states for that to happen and no damn Conservative Senator or Representative, worth their salt, is going to sit idly by and allow Obama to pass a bill enacting something like this, ever.
You ask what If I’m wrong? Well, I could be, it might just get passed, but let me clue you in on something. The first time one of these “Civilian National Security Force” officers walks up on someone who’s “Bitter and Clingy” and they haul off and empty a clip into one of those officers and he dies. Then the Government will get sued by the family. When that happens the program will be scrapped.
But I have a sneaking suspicion that this program will never, ever get out of congress, because first off, look at the insurance money the Government would have to put on each one of these officers, then they’d have to get them gun training, if the Government even allows them to be armed. (Knowing Liberals like I do, they would not be…) If they did not allow them to be, the only thing they’d be is glorified rent-a-cops.
So, I think much of the guessing and worrying about this is for no reason. Because it is not going to happen. Just chalk it up to one of Barry’s Promises to get elected. Which he will do and American will have to suffer for 4 to 8 years of Hyper-or Neo-Liberal rule. Thanks Bush! 🙄
The messianic style—the cosmic tug to “change history”, or stop the seas from rising or the planet from heating, juxtaposed with the creepy faux-Greek columns, Michelle’s “deign to enter” politics snippet, the fainting at rallies, the Victory Column mass address, the vero possumus presidential seal, and the ‘we are the change we’ve been waiting for’ mantra—reflects the omnipresent narcissism: the exalted ends of electing a prophet always justify the often crude and all too mortal means.
If this is considered ‘right’, I’d rather be wrong with McCain.
The only thing that I disagree with on this, is this man assumption that McCain will be any better. That is a logical fallacy of epic proportions. McCain is nothing more than a “made” beltway boy, who was born into a Military Family and happened to marry into a great deal of money.
Attempting to claim that this makes John McCain anymore qualified to be President, would be pouring the fuel of hype onto a fire of foolishness. Truth is, if it were not have his multi-million dollar wife. John McCain would still be a maintenance supervisor in the Military. Well, he would now be retired. Putting it simply, the dude got lucky, damn lucky.
Anything other than this is spin and hype. Period.
I give Bob Barr a little credit, at least he’s a real human being, a real working class person and not a made beltway boy.
Two days after next week’s election, top conservatives will gather at the Virginia weekend home of one of the movement’s most prominent members to begin a conversation about their role in the GOP and how best to revive a party that may be out of power at both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue next year.
The meeting will include a “who’s who of conservative leaders — economic, national security and social,” said one attendee, who shared initial word of the secret session only on the basis of anonymity and with some details about the host and location redacted.
The decision to waste no time in plotting their moves in the post-Bush era reflects the widely-held view among many on the right, and elsewhere, that the GOP is heading toward major losses next week.
One of the topics of discussion will be how to fashion a “national grassroots political and policy coalition similar to the out Reagan years,” said the attendee, a reference to the development of the so-called New Right apparatus following Jimmy Carter’s 1976 victory and Reagan’s election four years later.
“There’s a sense that the Republican Party is broken, but the conservative movement is not,” said this source, suggesting that it was the betrayal of some conservative principles by Bush and congressional leaders that led to the party’s decline.
But, this source emphasized, the meeting will be held regardless of the outcome of the presidential race. “This is going on if McCain wins, loses or has a recount — we’re not planning for the loss of John McCain.”
Either way, Sarah Palin will be a central part of discussion.
If the Arizona senator wins, the discussion will feature much talk of, “How do we work with this administration?” said the attendee, an acknowledgement that conservatives won’t always have a reliable ally in the Oval Office.
Under this scenario, Palin would be seen as their conduit to power. “She would be the conservative in the White House,” is how the source put it.
Should McCain lose next Tuesday, the conversation will include who to groom as the next generation of conservative leaders – a list that will feature Palin at or near the top.
Individuals aside, the broader aim of the session is to assess where the party and movement stand after what is virtually certain to be the second consecutive election in which Democrats make gains. The post-mortem will then lead way to a focus on what role conservatives play going forward both in the GOP and the political system ahead of the 2010 midterms
Few believe that the Republican party will respond to another brutal election by following a path of moderation, but conservatives are deeply dispirited and anxious to reassert the core values they believe have not always been followed by Bush, congressional leaders and their party’s presidential nominee . Many on the right, both elites and the rank-and-file, see a rudderless party that is in dire need of new blood and old principles: small government, a robust national security and unapologetic social conservatism.
All I can say is that it is about time. I am glad to see that the minds of Conservatism have finally decided to start thinking about their future and their party. I hope that something good becomes of this.
I just do not understand why it took so long for someone to finally come to a realization that something with the Conservative movement was horribly wrong.
Someone also needs to remind some of them that there is more to Conservatism and the Republican Party than John McCain and Sarah Palin.
“Despite stiff and unexpected Iraqi resistance, the U.S. invasion of Iraq is likely to succeed in toppling Saddam Hussein—and British Prime Minister Tony Blair, President Bush, the Republican Party, and American neoconservatives.”
Blair is gone, the Neocons are looking for new hosts, and a week from tonight, the Republican Party will be decimated and most likely will be irrelevant for at least my lifetime and may never hold either the White House or a majority in either house of Congress again. It seems that it took a while for everything to come to pass, but Roberts got it correct.
A sad, but very good point. Thanks to the blatant stupidity of the Bush Administration, any sort of fiscal Conservatism, Social or Conservative period is going to be absent from the White House, Congress, and collectively in Washington D.C.
This should be, but most likely will not be, a teaching moment for the Republican Party. That Neo-Conservatism just does not work. Further more, it should be a lesson that one cannot elect a President based upon pedigree. It just does not work and in the end it will cost your party, as we see it doing now.
Of course, Bush had the chance to do things right and he blew it. This is why Republicans are going to lose and lose hard in this election.
Zogby, A Republican owned Polling system has grim news for John McCain:
The race for President of the United States continued to tighten, as both Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain lost ground in a contest that is now a four–point game, the latest Reuters/C–SPAN/Zogby daily tracking telephone poll shows.
Obama lost 0.9 points and now stands at 49.0% in the tracking poll, while McCain lost 0.4 points and now stands at 44.7% support in a head–to–head match–up. Another 6.3% said they were undecided, up from 4.9% the day before.
McCain wins 87% of the Republican support, and Obama 84% of the Democratic support, and each candidate wins 11% of the opposing party’s support. Obama continues to lead among independent voters – his advantage now stands at 16 points, 51% to 35%.
McCain leads among men, 48% to 45%, while Obama leads among women by a larger 53% to 42% margin. Among white voters, McCain leads by a 53% to 41% margin. Among Hispanics, Obama leads, 66% to 28%, and among African Americans, Obama wins 88% to McCain’s 9%.

Wow… just wow…. I mean, who can spin that, McCain says it’s going to be a squeaker? Honestly? Is he reading the same polls as the rest of the world? I mean, Zogby! The Republican Poll company says you’re losing?!?! Unbelievable.
I do not dare use the word “landslide”. But It’s going to be a bad day on November 4.
Barack Obama leads John McCain by a 52% to 36% margin in Pew’s latest nationwide survey of 1,325 registered voters. This is the fourth consecutive survey that has found support for the Republican candidate edging down. In contrast, since early October weekly Pew surveys have shown about the same number of respondents saying they back Obama. When the sample is narrowed to those most likely to vote, Obama leads by 53% to 38%.
A breakdown of voting intentions by demographic groups shows that since mid- September, McCain’s support has declined significantly across most voting blocs. Currently, McCain holds a statistically significant advantage only among white evangelical Protestants (aside from Republicans). In addition, Obama runs nearly even with McCain in the so-called red states, all of which George W. Bush won in 2004.
Just as ominous for the Republican candidate, Obama holds a 53% to 34% lead among the sizable minority of voters (15%) who say they have already voted. Among those who plan to vote early but have not yet voted (16% of voters), 56% support Obama, while 37% support McCain.
Guess I won’t be so quick on the draw next time. 😀
The Numbers:
Overall the point is valid, that John McCain just is not resonating with the rest of the American people.
