The Story Via CBCNEWS.CA:
A dispute has erupted in Caledon, Ont., over whether a family with a child with cerebral palsy should be allowed to keep a pony.
Three-year-old Sam Spiteri was born with a form of cerebral palsy that makes it hard for him to do ordinary tasks such as walk, hold toys, eat or speak.
The youngster has been riding his miniature pony, Emily, since he was an infant.
“Taking her away would be devastating to Sam. It is his best friend,” said his mother Antonia Spiteri.
He’s so attached to the animal that his rides usually end in tears because he doesn’t want to leave Emily.
But a neighbour’s complaint about the animal’s smell is now being handled by the Town of Caledon, whose bylaw enforcement manager has ruled the Spiteris’ half-hectare property is zoned rural-residential, meaning they cannot keep livestock.
The Spiteri family, however, argues Emily shouldn’t be classified as livestock because she was bought as a form of therapy.
“We only want the exception for Emily herself to remain on the property for therapeutic purposes,” said Antonia Spiteri.
Sam’s grandfather bought him the pony because the youngster experiences seizures, making it almost impossible to take him on long car trips to a riding facility elsewhere.
According to the Ontario Cerebral Palsy Foundation, equestrian therapy “improves balance, co-ordination, strength and muscle tone, while gently mobilizing the joints.”
Antonia Spiteri says Sam’s pediatrician suggested the riding therapy, and they have seen an improvement in his posture.
“Bouncing from riding her triggers the muscles to stiffen and contract, so that when he rides her, he gets better posture and makes it easier for those muscles to learn those types of things. And then he is better with possibly walking in the future,” she said.
“When his posture is better, it’s easier for him to perform simple tasks such as feeding himself. It also helps with speech.”
The debate over whether Emily can stay on the property will now go before a committee of adjustment.
Well, I happen to believe that this is just wrong, Period. If you agree with this. Please contact the officials in this town:

An attack on a Jacksonville woman began as an argument over President-elect Barack Obama, according to police.
The incident took place Friday morning when a fight over politics turned into a physical battle, Jacksonville television station WJXT reported.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Lindsy Whitfield, 46, got worked up when his friend told him she didn’t like Obama.
Police said Whitfield slammed a picture frame on the floor of the woman’s apartment, and then picked up the shattered frame, threw it and hit her in the face.
The enraged man then began beating the victim with his fists before telling her he was going to kill her, according to a police report.
The victim told police that after Whitfield stopped hitting her he grabbed her stun gun and ran out of the apartment.
Despite patrol efforts, Whitfield could not be located by police. He is wanted on charges of simple battery, petit theft and making threats.
Hmmmmm… I wonder what color he was? Hope Change! or I keel you! 😛

Bob Hope already has been named an “honorary veteran” by the U.S. government, but on Wednesday the Postal Service said it will give the late comedian another honor — a commemorative stamp. It will be released in the spring, and its image will be revealed on Monday at New York’s Ellis Island, a former entry point for immigrants that Hope passed through when he came to the United States from England in 1908 with his family.
Hope’s career spanned every form of show business, from vaudeville to television to movies. Among his most popular films were the “road” comedies he made with Bing Crosby.
Hope died five years ago at age 100, and one of his proudest accomplishments was entertaining U.S. troops. That accomplishment caused the U.S. government in 1997 to name him an honorary veteran.
It’s about time. The man has been only been performing for century or more. I know he’s dead now. When he was alive the damn media could have given two shits about him. Maybe it was because he did not buy into the damn Liberalism of Hollywood.
Glad to see he is remembered for his clean humor; which is more than I can say about this idiots they call comedians today.

A Wal-Mart worker died after being trampled when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island store Friday morning, police and witnesses said.
The 34-year-old worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.
Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him.
“He was bum-rushed by 200 people,” said Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker. “They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too…I literally had to fight people off my back.”
The unidentified victim was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:03 a.m., police said.
The cause of death wasn’t immediately available pending results of an autopsy.
A 28-year-old pregnant woman was knocked to the floor during the mad rush. She was hospitalized for observation, police said. Early witness accounts that the woman suffered a miscarriage were unfounded, police said.
Three other shoppers suffered minor injuries, cops said.
Before police shut down the store, eager shoppers streamed past emergency crews as they worked furiously to save the store clerk’s life.
“They were working on him, but you could see he was dead, said Halcyon Alexander, 29. “People were still coming through.”
Only a few stopped.
Of course, you do know what color these vultures were don’t you?

Via NYT:
Aware that the man they were seeking in the killing of a television anchorwoman knew he was a suspect and fearful that he was already fleeing, the police provided the victim’s employer and its competitors their lead story on Wednesday’s 10 p.m. newscasts, giving the suspect’s name and picture at a news conference that the stations broadcast live.
Almost within seconds, the authorities say, tips began flooding in, and 90 minutes later the suspect, Curtis L. Vance, surrendered to officers who had surrounded a house in the city’s tough south-central neighborhood.
Mr. Vance, 28, was charged with capital murder in the death of the anchor, Anne Pressly, 26, a regular on the “Daybreak” program of KATV, the ABC affiliate here.
Ms. Pressly’s failure to answer a wake-up call early on the morning of Oct. 20 prompted her mother to drive to her home. Her mother found her in bed, bloodied and beaten almost beyond recognition. Ms. Pressly died of blunt-force trauma five days later, having never regained consciousness.
The police said Mr. Vance was a resident of Marianna, a small town in the Arkansas Delta, but had frequently been in the Little Rock metropolitan area, some 100 miles west. They said he had been arrested before for relatively minor infractions but had no history of violent crime.
At the news conference Wednesday night, the Little Rock police chief, Stuart Thomas, described the case against Mr. Vance as “very, very solid” but was silent as to a motive for the crime and details of the investigation, including exactly how Mr. Vance had become a suspect and how he had learned that he was under suspicion.
Nor did the police say who owned the residence where Mr. Vance was seized, a house five miles and a world distant from Ms. Pressly’s home.
The victim lived in a rented cottage-style house in the affluent Pulaski Heights neighborhood, the Country Club of Little Rock only three blocks from her front door. The poor section of the city where Mr. Vance was apprehended exudes a sense of menace, with crimes against people and property as common on its streets as they were essentially unheard of along the lanes that surround Ms. Pressly’s former address.
Even as Mr. Vance was being questioned early Thursday, detectives returned to Ms. Pressly’s home and searched its grounds by flashlight, neighbors said.
“I know this sounds stupid, but we never even lock our doors,” said Zoe Oakleaf, who lives with her husband and daughter across the street from Ms. Pressly’s house. “Well,” Ms. Oakleaf added after a moment, “we used to not lock our doors.”
This is truly a sad story all around. I got one thing to say about it. I hope like hell that the Police have a solid, water tight, Iron Clad case here. Because if they do not and this guy walk for any reason. They could be opening themselves up to a huge lawsuit and backlash.

An arrest affidavit says the 32-year-old Monroe man was dropped off around 2:30 a.m. at an Ouachita Correctional Center guard shack by a woman in a car who then drove away. He was arrested and booked with criminal trespass after saying he had no place to go and allegedly refusing repeated requests to leave.
His bail was set at $200.

The Story: (via WCCO-TV)
Emily Zitek is always on the move. She was born blind, but it has not stopped her from doing the things she has wanted to do. In August she started her own business and her lifeline became her laptop.
“It’s kind of like my partner. It’s like my partner in the business. If there are things that I need to find right away, I know where it’s at,” explained Zitek.
But on Tuesday her partner was taken from her. She was riding a Metro Transit bus, her laptop was in her backpack tucked under her seat. When Zitek got to her stop she reached for it and realized it wasn’t there. Other passengers helped her look but came up empty handed.
“That’s when I realized it really, truly is gone,” recalled Zitek.
On Friday police produced a picture of the man they think may have taken the laptop. Zitek said that if the thief was hoping to sell it at a pawn shop he is in for a surprise. The $6,500 computer is solely for the blind and only communicates through Braille.
Zitek is hoping the picture helps. She doesn’t want sympathy, she just wants her business partner back.
It takes all kinds, and based on that picture of the supposed suspect, he was not hurting for cash. Bet he was just some asshole, who would try and hawk it for a quick buck. Hopefully, he gets caught. Of course, he’s the kind that Liberals defend and say, “We can rehabilitate him!” Hmph…. put him under the jail and let him rot. 😡
Remember that 8 Year old boy accused of shooting his Father and a family friend? Well, his Mother is speaking out.
I will forewarn you, this video is tough to watch.
Video: (Via Breit Bart)
Quote:
The mother of an 8-year-old accused of murdering his father and another Arizona man said today that her son is a good boy who had no problems with his dad.
“He had a very good relationship with his father. …You know, they did everything together. He loved his dad,” Eryn Bloomfield, who shared custody of the boy with her ex-husband, said in an exclusive interview today with “Good Morning America.”
Bloomfield also said that her son was not having trouble at school.
“He’s very outgoing,” Bloomfield said of her son. “He loves animals. He loves to ride his dirt bike, skateboarding, outdoor things.”
The child faces murder charges in the Nov. 5 shooting deaths of his father, Vincent Romero, 29, and Timothy Romans, 39, who was renting a room in the family’s two-story home in St. Johns, Ariz. The boy was living with his father and stepmother.
Police allege that the boy killed both men with a rifle in their home.
Prosecutors sought to dismiss the first-degree murder charge Friday stemming from the death of Romero. Attorneys could not comment on the motion because of a gag order.
In a videotaped police interrogation, the boy confessed to the killings, although he did so without his mother or an attorney present.
Bloomfield, who is not allowed to comment directly on the case or police investigation, said when she watches the tape she hears “a scared little boy, that’s what I hear. Someone who’s afraid of what’s going on.”
Bloomfield, who lives in Mississippi, also said she didn’t see the interrogation video until it was released publicly and shown on the Internet and television.
The 8-year-old, whom ABC is not naming because of his age, is being held in Arizona’s Apache County Juvenile Detention Center in a private cell. Bloomfield, who has moved to Arizona since the shootings, said she visits her son every day.
Bloomfield is allowed to visit him for a half-hour each day and two days a week they are allowed physical visits.
“We sit in a room and he will come and sit on my lap pretty much the whole time, just hold on to me in that half-hour I get,” Bloomfield said. During the other visits, she speaks to her son through a pane of glass.
The boy will be released from the detention center for 48 hours to spend Thanksgiving with his mother. Bloomfield said he has already picked out a movie to watch, “Kung Fu Panda.”
Bloomfield said she wants those hours to be as normal as possible for her frightened son.
“I tell him every day that I love him,” she said. “And I don’t know how much more I can express that, but I definitely plan on doing that, just to let him know I’m here for him and how much I do love him.”
Truly a sad situation. Of course, your Godless Communist Liberals will try and use this as a reason to try and get Guns outlawed. What this story does not mention is the fact that the boy had just gotten spanked by his Step Mother, because of something he did. So, the whole story is not being told here. Something provoked this boy to anger. I refuse to believe that the boy did it for no reason at all. That is a ridiculous assumption. But one that would be made here, if one didn’t know about the punishment part.
This does not, however, excuse this child from what he did. He obviously made a huge bad decision and one that will affect him and his family, for the rest of his life. Also, it does seem that this boys Constitutional rights were violated. One must have an attorney present when being interrogated by police. So, it is likely that this whole case could be tossed out, because this boys rights were violated.
Again, my heart goes out to the families affected by this tragic event. This should be a wake up call to ALL gun owners. If you have Guns and you have young children; keep those guns locked up and away from the kids, even if they’re trained, having your guns out, where kids can get to them, is dangerous.
Of course, being the eternal skeptic that I am; I have to wonder, how do we know that mommy was not in on the killings? How do we know that Mommy didn’t tell the boy to do it? I wonder has the police check out that avenue? Have they given Mommy a lie detector test? It is to wonder.
Remember that raid on that Compound owned by the FLDS? Guess what it cost the Texas tax payers? 12.4 Million.
Via chron.com:
SALT LAKE CITY — The raid of a polygamist sect’s Texas ranch cost child welfare authorities $12.4 million in overtime, transportation and shelter costs, according to newly released figures.
Three-quarters of the cost, $9.1 million, came in the first few weeks after the April 3 raid at a West Texas ranch run by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. State officials racked up overtime and transportation costs traveling to the remote ranch and housed more than 430 children and more than 100 mothers at sites in San Angelo.
The state spent another $3.3 million after the children were moved to foster care under an order signed by Texas District Judge Barbara Walther. That order was overturned by an appellate and the state Supreme Court less than two months after the raid.
The accounting of expenses following the raid on the Yearning for Zion Ranch in Eldorado was reported in a copyrighted story Friday by the Deseret News.
The $12.4 million does not include the costs associated with the remaining cases, said Patrick Crimmins, a spokesman for Child Protective Services. It doesn’t include court costs either.
This is the price that one must pay, when a State Government overreaches it’s authority. That whole raid was farce from the beginning. based upon on false report, of whom the person who did it, is wanted by the authorities. So, the way I see it, the people of Texas should demand an investigation. Of course, because we are a Nation of sheep. It will never happen.

The Story Via smdailyjournal.com:
A pair of Redwood City siblings kept their mentally disabled sister in a backyard metal shed for 20 years with only a thin blanket and heater for warmth while seven pit bulls lived inside their home, according to prosecutors who charged the pair with elder neglect.
Bertha Cano Lozano, 45, is also charged with embezzlement of an elder by a caretaker. Both she and her brother Jesus Cano Ramirez, 53, pleaded not guilty yesterday and remain in custody in lieu of $250,000 bail. They each return to custody Dec. 3 for a preliminary hearing and face up to five years and four months if convicted.
Redwood City police discovered Lozano and Ramirez’s sister, Amelia, Nov. 18 when responding to a call for a teenager brandishing a knife at them. During a search of the MacArthur Avenue property, police reported finding the 58-year-old woman clad in a thin gown cold and shivering in the backyard.
The woman has the mentality of a young child and told officers she lives in an 8-foot-by-12-foot metal shed because her siblings said there is no room in the house, said Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
Officers also reported finding a small space heater with a frayed cord, a thin mattress on the floor and a rudimentary commode. Amelia had a Barbie doll and coloring book for entertainment, Wagstaffe said.
She had no injuries and was removed from the property by Adult Protective Services.
Officers also reported finding seven pit bulls living inside the three-bedroom home.
Lozano and Ramirez reportedly were cashing Amelia’s Social Security checks and keeping the funds, Wagstaffe said.

Researchers are trying to track down a meteorite that flashed through the skies Thursday night before a snowfall makes the search impossible.
Otherwise they’ll have to wait until spring when the snow melts, and chances of finding it may be slim by then, said Frank Florian, director of space sciences at Edmonton’s Telus World of Science.
“That’s why we need to iron this down today,” he said.
Florian has been receiving hundreds of phone calls and e-mails about the meteor sighting, all with varying accounts of where the flash of light took place.
“We’re trying to take all the reports and put them together in a meaningful conclusion as to where it might have fallen,” Florian said.
The rock seems to have flown in the general direction east of Red Deer and west of Saskatoon and appears to be about 18 metres or larger, he added.

I’m sure some idiot liberal will say, “See? This is why we need to get rid of guns!” While flapping their Liberal stained hands in the air.
Let me be clear on something, with owning a firearm, comes responsibility; obviously this man neglected to properly store his firearms away from the eyes of his son and his son accessed those firearms and now we have a double murder on our hands. Either this or that kid knew where the firearms were and how into get into the cabinet where the firearms were located.
Either way, this is a extremely sad case, and there is no easy answer, Guns are a America freedom that we cherish. However, with that freedom comes responsibility, we should always remember that. Least sad events like this happen.

Hillary Rodham Clinton has decided to give up her Senate seat and accept the position of secretary of state, making her the public face around the world for the administration of the man who beat her for the Democratic presidential nomination, two confidants said Friday.
Mrs. Clinton came to her decision after additional discussion with President-elect Barack Obama about the nature of her role and his plans for foreign policy, said one of the confidants, who insisted on anonymity to discuss the situation. Mr. Obama’s office told reporters Thursday that the nomination is “on track” but Clinton associates only confirmed Friday afternoon that she has decided.
“She’s ready,” said the confidant. Mrs. Clinton was reassured after talking again with Mr. Obama because their first meeting in Chicago last week “was so general,” the confidant said. The purpose of the follow-up talk, he added, was not to extract particular concessions but “just getting comfortable” with the idea of working together.
A second Clinton associate confirmed that her camp believes they have a done deal. Senior Obama advisers said Friday morning that the offer had not been formally accepted and no announcement will be made until after Thanksgiving. But they said they were convinced that the nascent alliance was now ready to be sealed.
Mrs. Clinton’s spokesman, Philippe Reines, issued a statement Friday afternoon cautioning that the nomination is not final. “We’re still in discussions, which are very much on track,” he said. “Any reports beyond that are premature.”
I can almost hear the Republicans screaming “RETREAD!” now. Which is pretty funny considering that Reagan used Nixon and Ford retreads.
