Akron police say they aren’t ready to call it a hate crime or a gang initiation.
But to Marty Marshall, his wife and two kids, it seems pretty clear.
It came after a family night of celebrating America and freedom with a fireworks show at Firestone Stadium. Marshall, his family and two friends were gathered outside a friend’s home in South Akron.
Out of nowhere, the six were attacked by dozens of teenage boys, who shouted ”This is our world” and ”This is a black world” as they confronted Marshall and his family.
The Marshalls, who are white, say the crowd of teens who attacked them and two friends June 27 on Girard Street numbered close to 50. The teens were all black.
”This was almost like being a terrorist act,” Marshall said. ”And we allow this to go on in our neighborhoods?”

Update: …and of course, the Democratic Underground is already panning this as some angry White Guy getting beat up. Like Black people would never beat up White people. Yeah right…

Hey Brad, is this the same US Attorney General who branded us all “cowards?” Yeah, I doubt that’ll happen on its own merit.
I’m a little tired of this pity party that we, the unspoken majority, have placed on this issue. If you think this is a discriminatory act that the police and media are refusing to label this as a hate crime, then by all means SPEAK UP! Nothing ever gets resolved by sitting on your duff. There is 2 women (mother & daughter) and a kid “shoved in the bushes”, yet the teens focus on the strongest people there being the father & his other male buddy? The teen gurl merely gets shoved down & gets a “bloody lip”? I’m sure a gang of “savages” would do ALOT more damage on these folks. The only thing that’s real is maybe the guy’s injuries which shows HOW he got them is suspect. Out of 30-50 people not ONE is pinpointed as a suspect by ANY WITNESSES IN THE ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD? Surely these “savages” would’ve done some significant property damage.

Maurice, you based your whole argument on a disbelief that black kids could have a modicum of compassion for women and handicapped people? Then you conclude with the fact that you can’t believe they (teenagers) would say something freaking CHEESY?!?!? Wow.
On another note, Ohio.com had an article last Friday saying that the FBI is being requested to investigate this, as classifying something as a hate crime is a federal responsibility. And guess who’s spurring this? That’s right; the Reverend Al Sharpton. I’m guessing there are more than a few of us out there who owe that man an apology.
Fatters, not so much that I disbelieve 30-50 teens sparing women & the weak because they’re black.. but due in part to the fact that – IT’S 30 TO 50 PEOPLE SUPPOSEDLY BEING VIOLENT! Also my point is that if they was as “savage” as some racially charged folks claim (assuming IIIF this actually happened) then why is the mother & daughter relatively spared any real physical trauma outside of a bloody lip.
The other part of my disbelief again… is 30 to 50 (black) folks crowding around in one spot and not one is pinpointed by authorities OR witnesses who lives around there. Also.. it takes 30 to 50 people to merely dish out injuries that totals out to be minor injuries and non visible bruises? Sure, and lets get a bulldozer to dig a hole for planting a small flower.
