Disgusting: Wal-Mart commits voter intimidation

These people should be prosecuted. 😡

The Story Via Wal-Mart Warns of Democratic Win – WSJ.com

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is mobilizing its store managers and department supervisors around the country to warn that if Democrats win power in November, they’ll likely change federal law to make it easier for workers to unionize companies — including Wal-Mart.

In recent weeks, thousands of Wal-Mart store managers and department heads have been summoned to mandatory meetings at which the retailer stresses the downside for workers if stores were to be unionized.

According to about a dozen Wal-Mart employees who attended such meetings in seven states, Wal-Mart executives claim that employees at unionized stores would have to pay hefty union dues while getting nothing in return, and may have to go on strike without compensation. Also, unionization could mean fewer jobs as labor costs rise.

As a Libertarian, someone who believes in the individual rights of all Americans and as the son of a 31 year veteran of the United Auto Workers. To me, this is nothing more than voter intimidation. Wal-mart is dancing on the legal line here.

Wal-Mart should be investigated and fined, if it is found to be violating the law.

  1. Walmart and so many other corporate giants claim they treat their employees wonderfully. I have to wonder what it is they really fear from unions this being the case. I don’t suppose it could be that Wal-mart or mcdonalds might be called out as liars… Having worked both retail and fast food as hourly and management I know what these companies fear. They are scared the days of treating employees as disposable workers could be coming to an end. It is the thing that scares companies that make most of their money on branded products rather than sales more than anything else.

  2. I agree Brad. I’ve also worked in Retail and yes, it was a sucky experience, every time. This is why I now work for myself. running this Blog.
