She might point out that the risks are significantly mitigated by drilling where people with common sense would go.
Deepwater Horizon was placed precariously for political reasons, amongst the other problems that will be sorted out by a full investigation.
As for the gulls–it sucks. Shall we go Amish in response?

she’d say wtf are you drilling a million miles out to sea under a mile of water when you should be drilling at the end of the Earth, on dry land, (ie ANWR) and in coastal waters where if an accident happens it would be a lot easier to handle.
But you have a point, we should stop drilling EVERYWHERE, stop burning coal, gas, little kindling sticks cuz of global warming and just huddle together staring at the stars waiting for Rama the Sun God to come back and warm the Earth.
