This is absolutely disgusting:

CHAPEL HILL — UNC-CH police released pepper spray and threatened to use a Taser on student protesters Tuesday evening when a crowd disrupted a speech by former Colorado congressman Tom Tancredo opposing in-state tuition benefits to unauthorized immigrants.

Hundreds of protesters converged on Bingham Hall, shouting profanities and accusations of racism while Tancredo and the student who introduced him tried to speak. Minutes into the speech, a protester pounded a window of the classroom until the glass shattered, prompting Tancredo to flee and campus police to shut down the event.

Tancredo was brought to campus by a UNC chapter of Youth for Western Civilization, a national organization of students who oppose mass immigration, multiculturalism and affirmative action.

Before the event, campus security removed two women who delayed Tancredo’s speech by stretching a 12-foot banner across the front of the classroom. It read, “No dialogue with hate.”

Police escorted the women into the hallway, amid more than 30 protesters who clashed with the officers trying to keep them out of the overcrowded classroom. After police released pepper spray and threatened the crowd with a Taser, the protesters gathered outside Bingham Hall.

Police spokesman Randy Young said the pepper spray was “broadcast” to clear the hallway. He said officers’ use of force was under investigation by the department.

Inside the classroom, several student protesters screamed curses at Tancredo and Riley Matheson, president of the UNC-Chapel Hill chapter of Youth for Western Civilization.

“This is the free speech crowd, right?” Tancredo joked.

I think if the police acted more like the guard did at Kent State, we would not have the problems we’re having today. These Liberal fascists are a disgrace to America. Yet the DHS released a report, calling we Conservatives terrorists? What about these people? Are they not terrorising this campus?

You see now, why I left the fascist Democrats? 😡

Those are OBAMA’S people folks, those people voted for Obama, a radical President, with radical followers.

  1. I wholeheartedly agree that the behavior of these people is objectionable, but I fail to see how it is fascist. Possibly in the brown shirt sense, but not in relation to an actual definition of fascism. I think fascism is best defined as state corporatism. That is, the state works at the behest of the corporate elite. In that regard we see a tendency to privatize profits and socialize losses of its corporate sponsors.

    Sound familiar?

It should, and it is equally characteristic of both major political parties in the U.S. Anyone who had the audacity to oppose Bush’s undeclared wars, warrantless wiretaps, illegal torture, etc., saw thuggery equal to what Tencredo experienced. But it was simply political thuggery encouraged, if not sponsored by the neocons. The current phase is simply the neolibs having their turn at the jackboot.

How’s that for change we can believe in.

Wait a second, do you mean the 1970 protests that led to the deaths of four people? Because yeah, protests get out of hand sometimes and need to be controlled, but that doesn’t justify using lethal force. Certainly not in this case, where the worst the protesters were doing was breaking windows.

They were fascist liberals, engaging in acts of domestic terrorism, lethal force is more than justified.

      1. How on earth was it domestic terrorism? A window got broken. A broken window doesn’t warrant the taking of a human life. What happened at that protest got a little out of hand, but isn’t more than we should expect for living in a country where people can protest whatever they feel like protesting.

And your phrasing suggests that the fact that they were “fascist liberals” adds to the justification for lethal force. I just want to be certain: if it were conservative protesters breaking windows at a Pelosi speech that consequently got canceled, would that, in your view, be domestic terrorism that justified lethal force?

  3. The police should act like the Guard did at Kent State? You think the police don’t kill enough people and that’s the problem with this country? I hope that that comment was a failed attempt at humor.

Not at all. I believe fascist liberals who engage in acts of domestic terrorism should be contained with lethal force.
