Right in the middle of a somewhat positive news day, comes this:
Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) has been diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer, a condition that is not considered life-threatening, according to his staff.
Dodd’s political adviser Jim Jordan emails me:
“The condition was caught extremely early; the procedure will be as routine as it can be; He’ll be down, out of commission for just two or three [weeks]; his health is otherwise superb; this in no way whatsoever affects his re-election plans.”
Dodd spokeswoman Colleen Flanagan reported the same and says the procedure will be performed sometime in August and that Dodd discovered the cancer during a routine screening and has had “not symptoms whatsoever.”
I am just going to say this; and I am sure that some Conservative Blogger or some idiot Liberal Blogger is going to read this and try say that I am fake Conservative or something stupid like that. Well, two words for ’em; Screw ’em.
Politics and the realm of Political Blogging is one thing. But, real life is another. My best wishes to Senator Dodd and his family during this time period. I know too well, what kind of thief and destroyer of life that cancer is. Let’s just say my family knows much about it.

I would like to applaud President Obama for bringing Sergeant Crowley, me and our families together. I would also like to thank the President for welcoming my father, Henry Louis Gates, Sr., who for most of his life has been a Republican! My dad turned 96 this past June, and the fact that he worked two jobs every day is the reason that my brother, Dr. Paul Gates, and I were able to receive such splendid educations. I am honored that he chose to join me at the White House, along with my fiancée, my daughters, and my brother.
Sergeant Crowley and I, through an accident of time and place, have been cast together, inextricably, as characters – as metaphors, really – in a thousand narratives about race over which he and I have absolutely no control. Narratives about race are as old as the founding of this great Republic itself, but these new ones have unfolded precisely when Americans signaled to the world our country’s great progress by overcoming centuries of habit and fear, and electing an African American as President. It is incumbent upon Sergeant Crowley and me to utilize the great opportunity that fate has given us to foster greater sympathy among the American public for the daily perils of policing on the one hand, and for the genuine fears of racial profiling on the other hand.
Let me say that I thank God that I live in a country in which police officers put their lives at risk to protect us every day, and, more than ever, I’ve come to understand and appreciate their daily sacrifices on our behalf. I’m also grateful that we live in a country where freedom of speech is a sacrosanct value and I hope that one day we can get to know each other better, as we began to do at the White House this afternoon over beers with President Obama.
Thank God we live in a country where speech is protected, a country which guarantees and defends my right to speak out when I believe my rights have been violated; a country that protects us from arrest when we do express our views, no matter how unpopular.
And thank God that we have a President who can rise above the fray, bridge age-old differences and transform events such as this into a moment in the evolution of our society’s attitudes about race and difference. President Obama is a man who understands tolerance and forgiveness, and our country is blessed to have such a leader.

Having spent my academic career trying to bridge differences and promote understanding among Americans, I can report that it is far more comfortable being the commentator than being commented upon. At this point, I am hopeful that we can all move on, and that this experience will prove an occasion for education, not recrimination. I know that Sergeant Crowley shares this goal. Both of us are eager to go back to work tomorrow. And it turns out that the President just might have a few other things on his plate as well.

An officer in the Boston Police Department was suspended yesterday for allegedly writing a racially charged e-mail about Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. to colleagues at the National Guard, a law enforcement official said. Mayor Thomas M. Menino compared the officer to a cancer and said he is “gone, g-o-n-e” from the force.

Barrett, a 36-year-old who has been on the job for two years, was stripped of his gun and badge yesterday and faces a termination hearing in the next week, said police spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll. He has no previous disciplinary record, she said.
“Yesterday afternoon, Commissioner Davis was made aware that Officer Barrett was the author of correspondence which included racially charged language,” she said. “At that time, Commissioner Davis immediately stripped Officer Barrett of his gun and badge, and at this time we will be moving forward with the hearing process.”
Barrett will receive legal representation from Boston Police Patrolmen’s Assocation, the police officer’s union. A woman who answered the phone at the police association said that union president Thomas J. Nee was not available for comment, but said he would be releasing a statement this evening.
Barrett could not immediately be reached for comment.

What this idiot forgot is this; Police Officers are servants of the people, not Masters. The Energy and Commerce Committee will resume its markup of healthcare legislation Wednesday afternoon under a deal between Blue Dogs and House leaders, but there will be no floor vote on the legislation before August.
Delaying a vote until after August was a key demand of the Blue Dogs, along with reducing the cost of the bill by $100 billion and allowing states to create health “co-ops” that would compete with the government-run “public option” and private insurers.
White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel was in the negotiations speaking for President Obama.
“We cut the cost of the bill, delayed a floor vote and ensured that the public option will not be forced on anyone,” said Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.) who has led the negotiations for the Blue Dogs. “Members will have time to go home to talk to their constituents and actually read the bill.”

A couple things come to mind. I am glad that the Blue Dogs talked the rest of those pinheads out of forcing people to take the public option; that bothered me greatly. I figured that the “forcing someone” bit would never make it to the final bill. Because the Democrats know that killing off Private industry, whatever it might be would not be in their best interests. (Despite what Sean Hannity might say about that…. 😉 😛 ) Those people up on Capitol Hill might act dumb; at times, but in reality they know fully that private industry is the backbone of America.
This is not to say that there are not some far lefty socialists in the Democratic Party; there are plenty of them. Only difference between those idiots and the Communists in Russia are the party name and the language accents. However, I am happy to know that there are some moderates still in that party. Now, do I think this bill will pass? That is a good question. I believe that there is going to be some push back, among the far left in the Democratic Party, especially from the netroots people who want a single payer health-care system. Which I feel personally is an unreasonable goal, as I feel it would bankrupt the Nation.
I also know very well, that there is going to be a massive push by the far right types to kill this bill off entirely. Whether they succeed or not, is another story. It is important to note that the forcing language was stripped out and some state ran alternatives are being introduced. Some still may not like this, but I tend to believe the wind will go out of sails of those who were fiercely opposed to the plan.
I am just happy that they put the thing off till August and are actually are going to read the bill. That my friends is PROGRESS! 😀 😛 😉
But why are we supposed to rely on the testimony of Dr Fukino, whom I believe entirely. It is not my job as a journalist or yours as a citizen to take public officials on trust. Keller recently became a Washington Nationals baseball fan and liked to point out that, as of her interview with The Hill, the team hadn’t lost a game since she started cheering for them.
“I attribute a lot of their losses to the fact that when you go to a home game everyone’s rooting for the visiting team, so I’m going to turn that around,” Keller says. “I never cared about baseball before, but I have compassion for the Nats.”
Keller also volunteers through her church. Once a month she helps elderly people in Washington’s Anacostia neighborhood with work on their houses and yards.
One recent weekend she was in charge of stripping paint from the side of a house using a power-washer.
“I recently discovered that I’m very good with a power-washer,” Keller says. “I ended up getting soaking wet. But it was worth it, just to know you’re helping someone.”

Perhaps the biggest thing that stood out to us at President Obama’s AARP town hall yesterday was that the White House appears to be losing the message war on health care. How do we know? Just listen to the questions the AARP callers had. Several of them asked about “rumors,” and they also brought up GOP talking points on “rationing” or the government coming to your house to ask how you want to die (!!!). Also, Obama’s closing statement at the town hall was particularly telling. “Sometimes I get a little frustrated because this is one of those situations where it’s so obvious that the system we have isn’t working well for too many people and that we could just be doing better,” he said. “We’re not going to have a perfect health care system; it’s a complicated system, there are always going to be some problems out there. But we could be doing a lot better than we’re doing right now.”

Liberal frustration started to boil over in the House on Tuesday as negotiations over healthcare reform with centrist Blue Dog Democrats dragged into a second week.
The delay prompted Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) to lash out at the Blue Dogs as hypocritical and even hint that more liberal Democrats might challenge them in primaries.
“On the one hand they don’t want to spend money, but on the other hand they want to spend money when it benefits them or their district,” Waters said on MSNBC, referring to Blue Dogs’ demand to increase Medicare reimbursements for rural physicians.
Seven Blue Dogs on the House Energy and Commerce Committee have effectively blocked the panel from working on the bill for more than a week, saying it’s too expensive and puts too much of a burden on small employers.
Asked if she would recruit more liberal candidates to run against Blue Dogs, Waters said, “That’s normally not done.”
But she added: “There may be people out there listening and observing all of this who may get motivated based on what they’re seeing and throw their hat into the ring.”
What stupid liberal Maxine Waters does not realize; is that the Blue Dog Democrats are there for that very reason, because they are “Blue Dog Democrats!” In words, the only reason why they were elected is because they were so Conservative, that the people felt comfortable electing them. In other words, they are the Democratic Party’s version of RINO’s or Democrats In Name Only or DINO’s. If the Democratic Party decided to do something foolish like run some extremely liberal Democrat in that district; the Republican Party would absolutely annihilate them!

MOBILE, Alabama (AP) — Police in Mobile, Ala., used pepper spray and a Taser on a deaf, mentally disabled man who they said wouldn’t leave a store’s bathroom.
The family of 37-year-old Antonio Love has filed a formal complaint over the incident on Friday.
Police tell the Press-Register of Mobile that officers shot pepper spray under the bathroom door after knocking several times. After forcing the door open, they used the stun gun on Love.
Police spokesman Christopher Levy says police didn’t realize Love had a hearing impairment until after he was out of the bathroom. The officers’ conduct is under investigation.
The newspaper says the officers attempted to book Love on charges including disorderly conduct, but a magistrate on duty wouldn’t accept the charges.

A spokesman for the Mobile Police Department said the officers’ actions were justified because the man was armed with a potential weapon — an umbrella.
But relatives of Antonio Love, 37, have asked for a formal investigation and said they plan to sue both the police and the store.
“I want justice,” Love’s mother, Phyllis Love, said Tuesday.
The woman said her son hears only faintly, has the mental capacity of a 10-year-old and didn’t realize that it was the police who were trying enter the bathroom.

Police spokesman Christopher Levy said Tuesday store workers called officers complaining that a man had been in the bathroom for more than an hour with the door locked. Officers knocked on the door and identified themselves, but the person didn’t respond.
Officers used a tire iron to open the door, but the man pushed back to keep it shut. Officers saw the umbrella and sprayed pepper spray through a crack trying to subdue the man, Levy said. They shot the man with a Taser when they finally got inside, he said.
Officers didn’t realize Love was deaf or had mental problems until he showed them a card he carries in his wallet, Levy said. He was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct, but officers released him and took him home after a magistrate refused to issue a warrant.
Levy said officers were justified in using force against Love since he had an umbrella.
“The officers really worked within the limits of our level-of-force policy,” he said. “We had no information about who this guy was.”
An umbrella…. Yes, you read that correctly; an umbrella. What in the name of Almighty God has gotten wrong with this damned country, when the police can arrest you and jolt you with something that has enough electricity that can potentially kill you, over something as simple as having an umbrella? The traffic at President Obama’s official White House Web site–whitehouse.gov–has fallen from a post-Inauguration peak to nearly the same level it was during the waning days of the Bush administration.
The dramatic drop in traffic has happened despite the Obama Administration’s complete redesign of the site.
According to the web-traffic tracking site Alexa.com, whitehouse.gov was almost the 500th most popular Web site in the world in February. Since then, it has fallen to the 3,732 ranked Web site in the world. Traffic to the site has fallen 51.6 percent in the last three months.
People are also spending less time on the site than they did before. Time spent on a Web site is often used as a barometer for how interested visitors are in a site’s content. Time spent on whitehouse.gov declined 15 percent since May to an average of 2.6 minutes per visitor
Because I am not on Brent Bozell’s payroll; I will say this, in fairness to the President the election season is over and now people are just not paying attention the White House and the President as much. So, I am not going to chime in with the partisan narrative here. However, it is notable to point out that overall traffic to this blog has had a remarkable uptick since Obama’s poll numbers have began to drop off. Which tells me that some people; who are possibly just regular independent voters are wanting to read critical reporting of the President. Instead of being spoon fed the constant political commercial that they are given at MSNBC, CNN and some of the other networks as well.
The bottom line is this: While I would not make too much of ado over this, it is interesting to note that Obama’s polls are dropping and that some people are just getting tired of Obama’s campaign speeches.

WASHINGTON — The Senate Judiciary Committee voted, 13 to 6, on Tuesday to endorse the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor, easing her path to likely confirmation as the first Hispanic member of the tribunal.
As expected, all 12 Democrats on the judiciary panel voted for Judge Sotomayor. But among the seven Republicans on the committee, only Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina voted in favor.
“She is a restrained, fair and impartial judge,” said Senator Patrick J. Leahy, the Vermont Democrat who heads the committee.
The action sends the nomination to the full Senate, where her confirmation by a comfortable margin seems to be assured.
Republican critics of the judge expressed displeasure with her rulings as a member of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, as well as with some of her public comments. The rulings and comments show that she is a judge is too “activist” and liberal and has too little commitment to the rights of gun owners, the critics complained.
Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama, the committee’s leading Republican, said just before the vote that he was compelled to oppose the nomination because of the judge’s “liberal, pro-government ideology.”
In an Op-Ed article in USA Today on Monday, Mr. Sessions wrote: “I don’t believe that Judge Sotomayor has the deep-rooted convictions necessary to resist the siren call of judicial activism. She has evoked its mantra too often. As someone who cares deeply about our great heritage of law, I must withhold my consent.”
Senator Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York, said Mr. Sessions’ questioning of the nominee had been “sharp but fair.” Still, Mr. Schumer said, he was perplexed that anyone could accuse the nominee of being a liberal activist, since an examination of her record shows her to be a moderate.
Barring some totally unforeseen event or shocking disclosure, confirmation is inevitable, since the Democrats have a 60-to-40 advantage in the Senate, counting two independents who vote with them. Moreover, several Republicans in addition to Mr. Graham have announced that they will vote for her.
Mr. Graham said he supported the nomination, despite early reservations. “I feel good about Judge Sotomayor,” he said, adding he was sure that she would decide cases “based on what she thinks is right” and be an inspiration for young women. The Senate is expected to debate the nomination next week, so Judge Sotomayor is likely to be sworn in as the Supreme Court’s first Hispanic justice (and only its third woman) in time for the start of the high court’s next term, which begins in October.
I am heartened to see Republicans standing on their principles; for a change. I believe if there had been more Republicans in the Senate, that the “Wise Latino” would be been rejected. However, I am well aware that elections have consequences. If any conservatives want to be angry, be angry at Bush for royally screwing up the Republican Party’s holding in both houses of Congress. Before anyone accuses me of having the poorly-named “BDS”, it is a fact, that the Bush Administration made some serious blunders during is tenure and as a result of that the election went the way that it did. This nomination is one of the unfortunate bi-products of that process. The Republican Party should be mindful of this during the next election cycle in 2012, in their choosing of the next Presidential candidate.
I will be the first to admit; I have not always agreed with Michelle Malkin in the past. But I am totally in agreement with her on the Obama Administration and on Matters of the Military; and most importantly on the subject of the war on terror.

Not to mention it is a borderline anti-semitic article at that. I guess it is true, that the so-called Paleo-Conservative/libertarian-left and the Liberal Left and the Israel-hating terrorists have much in common.

This guy, Bob Parks, who runs a Blog called Black and Right, (Chuckle Snicker Grin) is, as far as I am concerned, a racist.
Here are the reasons I feel this way:
I am sure you have heard about Alexis Cohen, the American Idol contestant, who was killed in a hit and run. Thankfully, her killer was found and arrested. Well, Mr. Parks, in his snobbish style, called this young lady “Troubled” and went out of his way to mock her on his Blog. My question is, would have worded this article in this fashion; if this young lady were black? It is to truly wonder.
Another fine example of Bob Park’s Black Bigotry against white people is a posting called “Return of the Retard.” A posting about a Bill in the house that contained some offensive language. That I personally, as the Nephew of a Developmentally disabled Aunt, would personally find offensive myself. In this posting; naturally a picture of a White mentally retarded Child is used. Why would Bob Parks use a picture of a mentally retarded White baby, as the picture is called? You decide.
There are a few more, but those are the two that really stuck out to me. Why else would Mr. Parks word things like he does? Why else would he use a picture of a white retarded child? Instead of maybe a black retarded child. Because he is a black racist bigot.
Which further fuels my belief, that blacks cannot be true blue Conservatives. Because of their inherent hatred of the White race, due to the sins of our fore-fathers years ago. It is just not in their DNA. Bob Parks might fool some, with his slick talk and masterful use of smoke and mirrors; but this White American Conservative is not fooled At all.Update: After some serious reflection; I have lined this part out. I made a fatal mistake, I did something rather idiotic and stupid; something that I abhor more than identity politics; and that is making blanket statements. I apologize for this. While I do have my serious doubts about African-Americans and their ability to actually be Conservatives. It would be abjectly foolish of me to say that I, in fact, know that they cannot be, because I just cannot know everyone’s heart. My apologies to those that may have thought I was being overly cynical. I readily confess to being a rabid cynic, but that does not excuse an horrific error in judgment. Again, my apologies. 🙁
I wonder what this welfare recipient gets per month? I guess when you’re a fat sweat hog, who carries water for B. Hussian Obama, all the while eating large amounts of food and ignoring your kids; it must be good. Must pay well too. The White trash sweat hog has her own domain. So, she’s getting paid, somehow. I didn’t realize, however that Alaska has such a Chrystal Meth problem; but someone has to have a side job!
I mean, what further proof do we need, that we really need to cut Alaska loose and let that bunch of inbred idiots have their own country?
President Obama has become quite the golf fanatic since he began his presidency.
The commander in chief is out on the links again today, playing a round at Andrews Air Force Base. This is the 10th time in as many weeks that Obama has found time to squeeze in some golf (all weekends, except for one Monday.)
In fact, the White House press corps has come up with a nickname to refer to the President’s golfing habits: “The First Duffer,” as they refer to him in pool reports when he’s hitting the links.
Today, Obama is playing with White House aides Ben Finkenbinder and Marvin Nicholson, as well as David Katz, the official photographer for his 2008 campaign.
In the past, Obama has played with U.S Trade Representative Ronk Kirk, Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, and personal aide Reggie Love, among others.
You know, I hate to sound like such an a-hole, especially this early in the morning and all. But can anyone tell me why the media gives two shits about the President playing a game of golf? I mean, seriously! Who cares!?!?! I really do not and I am almost positive the American people really do not care either. Yeah, I know the media savaged Bush for doing it and they were right to. That is because Bush was playing golf, while people were fucking dying in Iraq and I believe during Katrina too. So, it was justified, I felt. But with President Obama, it is different. Because nothing major is happening, it is more like silly fawning over a new boyfriend or something. It is, I feel, on the verge of getting quite old.
When I say nothing major is happening; what I am saying is this. The Iraq war is about wound down, Afghanistan is not going nearly as bad as Iraq. The whole background picture is different. All I am saying folks, is that the media needs to get out of this damned fawning mode and get back to serious reporting.
Gov. Sarah Palin resigned here Sunday with a blast at the media that reflected the frustrations that led her to leave office a year-and-a-half before her term expired. But speaking in a style that her fans see as plain talk and her detractors consider disjointed, she offered almost nothing about what she was planning to do next.
Plainly feeling liberated, Palin said that the freedom of the press was an important American right and one that members of the military died to protect.
“So, how about, in honor of the American soldier, quit making things up,” she said with an insistent voice, prompting loud applause and cheers from a mostly sympathetic audience gathered at a park here.
Palin didn’t specify what she was accusing reporters of making up, but suggested that she was weary of the attention on her family since being tapped as the Republican vice presidential nominee last summer.
“Our new governor has a very nice family, too, so leave his kids alone,” she demanded.
Immediately after Palin’s speech that man, Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, a Republican and Palin ally, was sworn in as the state’s governor.
As she stepped down from the stage, Palin’s future remained a mystery.
Concluding her remarks, she only said: “Let’s all enjoy the ride.”
While I will be the first to admit to you, that during the election I was not too impressed with Sarah Palin. I believe Mrs. Palin showed some enormous class. She was not mean or vindictive; she handled her exit with grace and much class. Which is something that is missing today in politics. I wish Mrs. Palin much luck for the future and something tells me that we have not seen the last of her. I believe that Mr. Palin will be a force for good within the G.O.P. for many years to come. She obviously has much star power among the G.O.P base and I believe that she will use that much to her advantage for the next few years. While I do not know if she will ever be a contender for the President race in 2012; because ultimately, that choice is hers, and hers alone. I do believe the she will be someone whom the Liberal elite media and some of the Conservative Elite will have to contend with for many years to come.
All the best Mrs. Palin and please, keep fighting for those of us, who have no voice. 🙂
