D’oh! Obama Says “Stimulus Bill will let Caterpillar rehire people”; Caterpillar Says, No, it won’t

A rather snort worthy blurb!

President Obama today repeated the claim we asked about yesterday at the press briefing that Jim Owens, the CEO of Caterpillar, Inc., “said that if Congress passes our plan, this company will be able to rehire some of the folks who were just laid off.”

Caterpillar announced 22,000 layoffs last month.

But after the president left the event, Owens said the exact opposite.

Asked if the stimulus package would be able to stop the 22,000 layoffs or not, Owens said, “I think realistically no. The truth is we’re going to have more layoffs before we start hiring again”

“It is going to take some time before that stimulus bill” means re-hiring, he said.

You’d think Obama would learn them supporters to stick to the script!

Ha! That’s just too funny. 😆

I do believe however that many people in America are thinking, “How long until President Obama get’s his shit together?”

It’s a very valid question.

  1. I think it’s completely RUDE what Owens did. If he thinks Obama was wrong, why not respectfully tell the President so? Instead of talking behind his back. This is so high school.

  2. Imee, why expect the CEO to stay silent? The president is telling Caterpillar what will be good for it. Not speaking up would have implied the Cat CEO’s agreement. The company has a public face, and needs its own views owned . . . speaking privately to the president would not have accomplished that.

  3. One other thing, Imee. Why should the CEO let the public think that the stimulus will allow Caterpillar to recall laid off workers when he knows he has no intention of doing so?

  4. Imee — how about if Obama gets the FACTS before he opens his big yap to the world — that’s not even high school, that’s PRESCHOOL — and you’re worried about rudeness. Start worrying about something a little substantial, like the corruption Obama is bringing into his cabinet, the fact that he can’t find a single Democrat for his cabinet that isn’t a criminal, that this pork-laden bill is going to put generations into debt and bring this country closer to Socialism … sorry to make you think …
