Rep. Michele Bachmann continues to make the G.O.P. look like the Party of the Crazies

First she tries channeling McCarthy, now she’s got some wild hair up her ass about Obama dumping the dollar and going to a global currency. Something that the Obama Administration has said that it does not want to do.

Now she’s dropping inferences that the American people should stage a violent coup on the White House.

Quote:

Michele Bachmann, a Republican Congresswoman from east-central Minnesota, has some fighting words for President Obama’s energy plans.

According to the Smart Politics blog at the University of Minnesota’s Center for the Study of Politics and Governance, Ms. Bachmann, when asked about President Obama’s cap-and-trade plans on a local radio station last Saturday, responded:

I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax because we need to fight back. Thomas Jefferson told us, “Having a revolution every now and then is a good thing,” and the people – we the people – are going to have to fight back hard if we’re not going to lose our country. And I think this has the potential of changing the dynamic of freedom forever in the United States.

Here’s why this bothers me. As you know; I am not a Republican, I am a Independent libertarian-minded Conservative. Let me say this publicly, that this sort of violent rhetoric does nothing to enhance, improve, and project the image of the G.O.P. in a positive light. The Republican Party just got done taking a severe ass whipping in the 2006 and 2008 elections. This should have been awake up call to the leadership and to every member of that Party.

If this sort of nonsense from the leaders of that Party do not stop; the G.O.P. will go the way of the Whigs in short order. As much as I dislike President Barack Obama and his socialist agenda, I do NOT, at all, in any way shape, forum or idea; advocate any sort of violence towards our Nation’s President. I believe there does need to be a sharp review of the sort of language that is used towards the President and his polices. The G.O.P. should know this by now; that McCarthy’s tactics did not work, nor will these and if that Party does not want to be rendered the party of the Black Helicopters and Alex Jones type of crazies, it need stop the silliness and very quickly.

My hope is that someone, somewhere gets to Michele Bachmann and quite bluntly tells her to shut her damn pothole and fast.

  1. Coming from basically the same political camp as the writer, I disagree and say it is precisely this sort of thing we need to be hearing from the GOP. Michelle Bachmann has a history of being an idiot–a neo-con who is also a homophobe and has never seen an idea of George Bush’s she did not enthusiastically endorse.

However, lately she has been articulating some pretty traditional libertarian ideas–and if she can make it sound revolutionary so much the better–it is, unfortunately, revolutionary and something of a revolution is needed if this country is going to be turned back toward the constitution and sound economics

She recently did an exchange in a Congressional hearing with Bernanke and Geithner–which I presume is the McCarthyism you abhor. I thought the questions were intelligent and pointed–those guys should have a working familiarity with the constitution, at least as far as their particualr governmental duties entail. Bernanke and Geithner weren’t even able to blow any smoke up their ass and throw out the general welfare clause or anything.

It is probably apparent to you, but it is not (judging from the people that commented on my blog when I brought this up) known by most Americans (including apparently Bernanke and Geithner) that Congress does not have to the power to do anything it wants or any subject.

It is precisely the type of message that Ron Paul got so much traction with that the GOP must use to become a real oppositon party and one with a future. Bachmann seems to be making the transition–which Republicans must make if they are to remain relevant.

  2. Hi Becky,

What bothered me, was the inferring that we need to have an armed revolution and basically kill the President. That is what bugged me out. Not the spending stuff, I agree with that Part.

  3. The rhetoric may have been a little heated, but remember the famous Goldwaterism:

“Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice….moderation no virtue.”

  4. All I have to say is becarefull of banning speach of any type of we could get a rebirth of HR 1955 where all speach against the government is considered terroistic.

  5. Hi Becky! I agree with Rep Michelle Bachman! So, what options are left? Anyone who attended the meeting with Bob Schultz of the We the People Foundation knows tht his organization has been working fearlessly and tirelessly since 1999 to stop the Fed Govt from continuing to erase the US Constitution! Bob showed all of us who were there Ernie, and it was painfully obvious that they were not going to stop of their own volition! Bob said that the most likely outcome of the “Continental Congress” would be a resolution calling on the Fed Govt to start operating within the confines of the constitution, or we the people could elect to not provide economic resources, but the chances of enough private businesses doing that are slim and none. The risk of being put out of business, or taken over is just too great to take by any smart business. So, if we decide not to file taxes, great, but only 40% of the public actually pay taxes, the rest gets refunds, so the reality is that there is very little in economic sanctions we can impose that would have any bearing. And the IRS can just confiscate the property of those who normally pay taxes. So, in actuality, what are our REAL options as a people?
There is really only one option, and although many in the public spotlight are refusing to address this most important of issues, it does not make that “bull in the china shop” go away! The problem we have is exactly the same that our ancestors faced in 1774. The authorities of this day are refusing to adhere to their contractual obligations, and the oathes they took upon assuming office! Therefore, according to the provisions of the Declaration of Independence, and the US Constitution, we have an obligation and a responsibility to future generations to take matters into our own hands! The bad guys are attempting to destroy our Constitution, and impose their own sense of legal fairness on our country, irrespective of current law.
Any thinking person knows that if the fed govt decides to retaliate, or again ignore the will of the people, then the people have the right to remove that govt, by whatever means are necessary! If we wait too long then the cheats, theives, and other evil-doers that support the policies of our Social-Fascist administration will prevent our ability to regain control through the normal electoral process. Therefore there is really no opportunity toi redress our greivances unless the fed govt knows that we mean business! And the only way they will take that threat seriously, is if they believe that the American people, or a large enough minority of the people are willing to take up arms to enforce said will!
Anything short of that won’t work, and although I abhore the use of violence, that threat is the only thing that the fed gov’t will recognize! Believe me when I say that if we do not hang togethewr, then we will surely hang separately! Ben Franklin said that I think!
Ernie, yoou said you know what the feds would do, what that meant, and what the only remedy would be if the Continental Congress failed to get the feds to reverse their takeover! Its about time you told yoour readers that, as well!
    In the Spirit of Liberty,
    A Domestic Patriot!

  6. I agree with what she is saying. People not standing up against tyranny is what leads to things like the holocaust

  7. Paleo Pat…How and why did you reach the conclusion that representative Bachmann was advocating violence against president Obama?? As for your being an “Independent libertarian-minded Conservative”…were King George yet alive, he would no doubt knight you, sir. And by the way, why not clean up your prose…street language should be reserved for small minds!
“Our contest is not only whether we ourselves shall be free, but whether there shall be left to mankind an asylum on Earth for civil and religious liberty.” Samuel Adams

    1. And by the way, why not clean up your prose…street language should be reserved for small minds!

I got one thing to say about that. SCREW YOU! and that self-righteous horse you rode in on pal. This is one the biggest things that piss me off about the self righteous so called “Christian” crowd. they’re so damned high and fucking mighty that they’re too busy pointing out other people’s faults, that they don’t even see their own. This is one of the reasons why I do not go to Church anymore, and most likely won’t ever go back to one.

It is one thing to acknowledge that Christ is the son of God. It is another to be a Religious pig.

  8. I think what Pat (and to an extent Becky) are both trying to say is that, while it is great that Bachmann has recognized the need for Republicans to embrace the libertarians (as opposed to the socons) in the next election cycles, she apparently needs to learn how to really talk like one of us instead of *guessing* by using that revolution language which so many Ron Paul supporters were using on Guy Fawkes Day in 2007 when everyone was repeating the 400 year old gunpower rhyme (most of them were thinking in terms of money bombs of course).

An example of highly informed talk would be to say “We need a 3rd Party Amendment” where nobody can get elected anymore without more than 50% of the vote – with runoffs or coalitions as options for after a failed election. Such an amendment would encourage people to vote third party in the first round at least and for deals to be made between the first round and the second round…all of which would be healthy for democratic representation.

But don’t hold your breathe about a Republican saying something sensible like that.

  9. Dear Mr. Paleo Pat…you seem to have a problem in jumping to false conclusions, sir. Were you referring to your propensity to castigate others for their alleged faults…or were you referring to my comment about your using street language? Did I mention in my previous post that I was a Christian, sir? NAY! Conclusions, conclusions…all unfounded, sir. Religious liberty as put forth by the Founders did not single out Christianity as exclusively valid, sir:

The First Amending Artice to the Constitution FOR the united States of America of 1787 states in part:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…”

It is patently clear, sir…the American people have been largely divided and led astray by insidious politicians of both major parties. I say a POX on both of their houses…Quislings!

“Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from further obedience, and are left to the common refuge which God hath provided for all men against force and violence.”….John Locke

  10. I have to say that the Congresswoman is clearly not a true principled defender of American liberty and that her calls for revolution are clearly motivated by a desire to advance a partisan agenda. However, what she said is 100% correct in my opinion. Saying that people have a right to rise up against a government that oppresses them with confiscatory taxes is simply echoing the words of the founders. I don’t believe that violence is morally justified unless the peaceful avenues to change have been exhausted. But barring a wide ranging reversal of the trend towards statism, we will face the decision between compliance or resistance to an oppressive American state within our lifetimes.

The time for non-violent revolution is here and now. Peaceful civil disobedience and principled political action like state nullification of federal laws is the only way to prevent true civil unrest and make the US a nation worth preserving. Peaceful secession is an idea whose time has come as well.
