This might present a challenge to the new President:
India has warned US President Barack Obama that he risks “barking up the wrong tree” if he seeks to broker a settlement between Pakistan and India over the disputed territory of Kashmir.
MK Narayanan, India’s national security advisor, said that the new US administration was in danger of dredging up out of date Clinton administration-era strategies in a bid to bring about improved ties between the two nuclear armed neighbours.
“I do think that we could make President Obama understand, if he does nurse any such view, that he is barking up the wrong tree. I think Kashmir today has become one of the quieter and safer places in this part of the world,” Mr Narayanan said in an interview with CNBC TV18.
“It’s possible that at this time there are elements, perhaps in the administration who are harking back to the pre-2000 era.”
The warning comes as Richard Holbrooke, Mr Obama’s special envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan, prepares to come to the region for the first time in his new capacity. Mr Narayanan is close to Manmohan Singh, India’s prime minister, and Sonia Gandhi, the president of the ruling Congress Party.
It seems that Obama is not going to the force that rights all the wrongs that are in the world after all. This will another in a series of challenges for the new President. I wonder what he will do in response?

Good for India for standing up to Obama’s naive world-view and thank G*d they are being pragmatic rather than clinging to unrealistic ideals of “peace & love”…
At least India has learned lessons from it’s ally and brother-in-the-crosshairs-of-Jihad Israel’s failed attempts at Peace with those that absolutely do not want it! Lest we forget, the suicide bombings, rockets & gunmen came only AFTER (and a direct result of) the OSLO ACCORDS! The Withdrawal from Lebanon lead to the killing of Regev, Goldwasser (& others) AND the Summer War; & making Gaza 100% Jew Free & a defacto state only lead to 5000 rockets being fired at Israel… BEFORE ALL OF THESE ATTEMPTS AT PEACE ISRAEL WAS FACING MOSTLY ROCK-THROWERS, MOLOTOV COCKTAILS AND THE OCASSIONAL GUNMAN – so much for the myth that ‘talking can’t do any harm’
Sometimes low-level conflict is far preferrable to all out Jihad! (which peace accords alway cause! For the reasons why, see the Hamas Charter, esp the part on ‘negotiations’ & ‘accords’) Sometimes the devil we know is far preferrable to the devil we have yet to meet!
On a related note: One wonders what the Messiah will say if he ends up meeting with Iran & company… “Your Koran says it, The Hadith say it, your parents fed you it from the womb, your Imams drilled you daily on it at the Madrassah & Mosque BUT *I*, Barack Obama tell you that you have been decieved!!!”

If Obama’s “meeting” with Ahmadinijad ever took place, I would hope it would be broadcast on Pay-Per-View…I’d tune-in!
